After "Bollocks to Brexit", now Speaker Bercow has a sticker on his car saying "Don't blame me, I voted Remain" https://t.co/uA6sWWWmwA pic.twitter.com/h3Hy7ZyDLC
On topic - Bercow probably won't go. Even though he should, but it shouldn't be about this if he does - rather his disgraceful behaviour toward his colleagues and juniors (Not MPs), even though it probably will be about this if he does go.

The choice of tyres was made some time back, so it's not exactly a surprise. Mercedes chosen tyre allocation - made before Monaco - was extremely conservative (five sets of the Ultrasoft, compared with their rivals' three). Given the feeble life of the Hypersofts, that might stand them in good stead - in Montreal, unlike Monaco, overtaking is relatively easy, so there is no trundling around saving your rubber...
As for the steel tariffs, defensive action by Europe is almost inevitable (20m tonnes of cheap Chinese steel will be looking for a new home...). Trade wars are in no one's interest, but unilaterally surrendering seems even more costly in the short term.

99% of people don't bet on politics. There's a market on this, and there is a significantly larger than zero chance that Bercow will go - and it has been front page news on a couple of occasions recently - so 'obsession' is a pretty loaded term.
The United States has fired the opening shots in a trade war with three of its traditional allies after imposing tariffs on imported steel and aluminium from the European Union, Canada and Mexico.
Wilbur Ross, Donald Trump’s commerce secretary, said the 25% duty on steel and the 10% duty on aluminium would be imposed from midnight.
In a move that is likely to prompt retaliation from Brussels, Ross said talks with the EU had not shown enough progress for European steel and aluminium producers to continue to be exempted from the tariffs.
From John Bercow’s view, he’s annoying the right people. The headbangers already hate him. The risk to his position comes from MPs elsewhere in the House of Commons, many of whom will be happy to have a Speaker who is disposed to detailed criticism of this policy.
Mr. B, I wonder how many stops there will be. If it's two either way, better to start on the hypers for optimal grid position.
The hypersofts are awesome, much like the old qualifying tyres. Next job is to remove the fuel flow limits for the session, then we can have qualifying engines back too!
Canada will probably be a marginal two-stopper if it’s dry and with no SC. Somewhat easier to overtake than at Monaco.

"U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has called out the European Union for opposing trade negotiations at a time when China was willing to hold talks.
"China are paying their tariffs," Ross told the panel at an economic development forum in Paris on Wednesday, in response to EU criticism of sweeping import tariffs the White House announced on its trade partners all over the world in March.
"China hasn't used that as an excuse not to negotiate... It's only the EU that is insisting we can't negotiate if there are tariffs," he added."
Sounds worse that a 'terrible idea'. It sounds terrifying similar to the mad ideas of people like pol pot, who arrested all the teachers, doctors etc etc. As they were the ones who had their own ideas.

We'll have to wait for the race sims in practice to have any idea; though it's a much faster track than Monaco, Canada is pretty easy on the tyres. Mercedes ought to be able to get through Q2 on the Ultras, so I expect them to try to start on those.
Overtaking is easy, so it will be very interesting to see how many laps the Hypers last without massively losing pace if drivers are pushing on them. Monaco gave us no idea of that, as they were running round about 5 seconds off true race pace to conserve them.

He looks certain to lose the vote of confidence - and the PSOE leader sanchez will take over as an even more minority PM promising elections 'in a few months'. I think he is being very foolish - if it back fires it could destroy PSOE completely - so not all bad. Beneficiaries liklely to be the centrist Ciudadanos. However, more southern Europe instability on the cards for the next few months.
Will be interesting to see how the EU responds. Do we go for tariffs which will inflict political pain on Trump?
"The United States had $686 billion in total (two ways) goods trade with the European Union during 2016, its largest Goods trade partner. Goods exports totaled $270 billion; Goods imports totaled $416 billion."
From John Bercow’s view, he’s annoying the right people. The headbangers already hate him. The risk to his position comes from MPs elsewhere in the House of Commons, many of whom will be happy to have a Speaker who is disposed to detailed criticism of this policy.
And attacked by Guido too - the most widely-disliked (though widely-read) blog in Westminster for its indiscriminate bile. Yes, yes, Speakers are supposed to be impartial, but having some good enemies is always useful in politics.

Virtually the entire opposition minus the neo-cons from Northern Ireland will vote for Bercow. I am sure 20 or 30 Tories also will.

It's some way off, but worth keeping an eye on the Canadian weather. Mind you, the berks in charge changed the rules, so if we had a 2011 type scenario now, it'd be Vettel rather than Button who won (a 4 hour absolute time limit, including red flag breaks).

The campaign against him is becoming counter-productive. Allegations of bullying staff etc are now viewed in the context of tory headbangers vs everyone else. And no oppositon MPs will associate themselves with a campaign run by the headbangers.

It’s not a case of winning a vote of confidence by a single vote, it’s a case of maintaining the confidence of the whole House - and more importantly to be seen to be impartial as the referee rather than a participant.
It’s deliberately and needlessly provocative, and he’s doing it to wind up people who know he’s completely unsackable. A few more of the moderate MPs on both sides are losing their respect for him with silly stunts like this. Meanwhile it’s serving as a useful distraction to the quite serious allegations against him relating to junior members of staff.
Mr. Sandpit, remove the fuel flow limit? But, think of the environment?!?!?!?!&*^%&!!?
I wonder if Verstappen will say hello to the Wall of Champions.
Nah, that wall is for champions, Verstappen won’t be eligible to hit it for a few years yet.
I remember how much I cheered back in 1999 when one M Schumacher binned it on the last chicane and went sliding down the wall Indycar style.
Utterly childish...
... and I remember doing exactly the same.
(edit) As for strategies, I'm thinking Mercedes one stop, and Ferrari/Red Bull two, which would make things very interesting.
Teams might even split strategies if the alternatives are close enough to each other.
One stoping on a track where it's so easy to overtake will be a risk.
My guess is that Mercedes/Ferrari go H/S/H and RB go H/H/U. I don't think any of the middle runners will pose a threat. Even if Renault bring a decent engine upgrade, they and McLaren are too far behind.
Leading question. Who says a compromise is sensible? More likely a fudge between the worst of being in and the worst of being out.
Exactly. A soft Brexit pleases no one.
Actually, a soft Brexit will be fine with 80%+ of the population. it just won't please anyone who really cares about the EU.
A Brexit which none of the people who care about the issue accept cannot ever resolve matters. It would just ensure the issue remained open for years longer.

Those who wish to see an impartial referee as some of the most critical legislation in decades winds its way through the Commons.

Not really. Unless one of the groups can capture one of the main parties *and* that party then gets elected (quite difficult if it's perceived as run by zealots and obsessives), or unless they can somehow bring about enough external pressure for them to extract a new vote (because we won't be rejoining without a referendum first), chances are that the Ultras on either side will cancel each other out.

We'll see. As I said, it depends on what they see in practice, but Montreal is a very low wear track, so it's possible their theoretical best strategy is one stop. Pirelli's intention was to produce a set of options which would make both strategies viable; this might just be the first race where that actually works out. Though I'm not holding my breath...
Mr. B, indeed but worth remembering one race (forget when... 2008?) at Canada had the tyres wearing out really rapidly. It was the reason the idiots in charge decided Pirelli should make crumbly tyres because that Canadian race was really exciting due to all the pit stops.
Except when everybody knows the tyres are crumbly they just drive in the most efficient way possible. So, cars and drivers aren't pushed and there's much less excitement (the exemplar of this being being the last race in Monaco).
It is properly muggy here in Sheffield, so I'd imagine it would be similiar up in Leeds. Could tip it down tommorow or be a wicket festival with what I assume will be very overcast skies.
