It's an interesting experiment. I say give it a chance.

    The presentation is horrible though....
Agree. Try the graphics – they are somewhat nicer.

XX = two letter state code (FL, NH etc etc)
Based on Pennsylvania (3.9% with no early voting, I wonder how much of votecastr data is actually 'on-the-day')

    What about?

Does anyone else consider the ECV system is outmoded & should be replaced by the total amount of votes cast.Seems fairer to me.Take Gore in 2000 for example.

No, the US is a federal system. The electoral college protects the influence of smaller more rural states. Without it elections would just be fought in the big cities in states like CA, TX, FL, NY etc while the rest of the country was left to rot.

Incidentally, when the results start coming in, this page by Ian Warren with an interactive map of the 2012 results by county (and also the Hispanic and other percentage demographic data) might be very useful:

    http://election-data.co.uk/us-election-2016

Note that you have to switch on the 'Results by county' visible layer on the map, otherwise you just get the state result when you click on the county.

Pretty sad that there is the need for ethnic breakdowns - hopefully the Uk never gets to that point.

That's exactly what we do want from them. Idiots.
To be fair (although considering he's the boss he doesn't seem to have a grasp of politics or statistics) this is the first go and they've been very clear that no comparisons are possible. Absolute numbers only, take them or leave them. I'm sure they will be useful fodder for analysis after the election, but during the day I think you make use of them at your peril.

Yes, reputable ad companies shouldn't be serving NSFW ads.

The only way the news companies are going to stop this and the adblocking 'problem' is to serve the ads themselves, from their own servers and bandwidth, and with their own online ad sales teams.

They've got bigger problems than that... If they're seeing "ad's" that are that graphic chances are their browser and maybe even their PC is infected with Malware as that kind of ad wouldn't come from a "reputable" ad network like Google, etc!

Using 538's current projections these are where the biggest swings are likely to take place compared to 2012:

    To Democrats:

    Utah: 18.4%
    Idaho: 5.9%
    Kansas: 4.4%
    Tennessee: 4.0%

    To GOP:

    Hawaii: 8.9%
    Rhode Island: 6.2%
    DC: 6.2%
    New York: 4.5%
    Iowa: 4.3%

That's nearly as annoying as getting hundreds of ads for cars or holidays, just after you bought one. The ad networks' targeting isn't half as good as they'd like to think it is.

Maybe 2000 was right on that model though. Republicans in safe states didn't turn out, but would have done if their vote had been important.
I remember calculating that if they'd used the new EC votes based on current population (rather than 1990 population) Gore would've won without Florida.

Absolutely. Ad blockers were unnecessary when ads were text boxes on a screen, as opposed to the flashing, autoplaying audio and video, pop-ups, pop-unders and redirecting crap that seems to be par for the course now.

Of more serious concern is the malware and tracking software that even these 'reputable' ad networks serve up. I spend several hours a week cleaning that crap up for customers, the internet is pretty much unusable without an ad blocker now.

I suspect what's happened here is that whoever saw that "ad" has had their Browiser or possibly their PC infected with malware.

That means the ad space is essentially being hijacked. So instead of seeing a nice Google ad for cars or sewing machines they are seeing dodgy porn ads.

My guess on the Guardian story is that the company that provides their ads has either been hacked or screwed up. They've removed all the ads from their website now, must be costing them a fortune.

Given that the collective PB decision is that votecastr is bollocks, what will we be watching later - UK Sky News or one of the US networks?

Good question. If we're interested in the Senate as well, I suspect the US networks will be better. My recollection is that ABC and CNN weren't bad. The Guardian was pretty good too during the primaries, though their little animations were a matter of taste. Any other views?
FOX! It has the best decision desk – despite the utter bilge they spout as daily course, their election number crunching teams are the quickest to call states as a rule.

Hence worth having them to flick over to at the very least.

Much like Clinton cancelled her planned (and super obnoxious) firework display?
Bit different. There is still a party planned! And Clinton probably didn't want to look like she was celebrating early.

And why obnoxious? She isn't allowed to celebrate being president?

Sorry for breaking with the topic but has everyone seen the latest from the Supreme Court? The judgement will follow 'probably in the New Year'.

    How is that remotely acceptable?

As the appeal itself was a delaying tactic I think Theresa May will be delighted with that.

A party is fine, but a fireworks display? Surely you have to admit that's a tad over the top.

Am I right that Votecastr decide who they think people will vote for and then tick them off when they turn up at the polling station? By their reckoning, and assuming no-one voted for anyone other than Trump and Clinton, Trump is leading by 7.5% in Pennsylvania in votes cast so far - which doesn't seem remotely likely.

Its a complex legal issue with 11 judges hearing it and probably consultation with the ECJ as to whether Art 50 is irrevocable. Its being rushed as it is if it will just come down in Jan!

What, you want the judgment rushed???

When you lay at 95 with a market to expire in about 2 months, that is around 6% or so, no ?

    7-8% perhaps here IRR

Why? What's the difference between a concert and fireworks. Clinton gets critised for things Trump would get a free pass on. Everyone likes fireworks.
