He's really suggesting it will net cost the NHS money?
Between doctors time, administering actual drugs, monitoring, oversight, lawyers….
I’m thinking that “NHS Exit” will need a Richard Rogers designed headquarters, lots of art. A huge number of NU10K on 6 figures knowing nothing…
I’ll run it for £684,463 per year.
Cancel devolution and use the Scottish parliament. Orwellian enough.
Devolution appears to have been at least sidestepped as apparently all the SLab MPs voted on the Assisted Dying England & Wales bill. No doubt the Anglo Brits will shortly be bleating about this assault on their democracy.
To be fair that is pretty poor given this is a devolved matter. And I say that as a long standing supporter of Scottish Independence.
If there's one thing that comes to mind with SLab - it's the very word "disappointed".
Plaid MPs also voted on assisted dying despite the fact the Senedd are supposed to consent before it comes into law in Wales

Unionist parties gotta Union. Pretty sure Unionism is now the unifying principle for the PLP, far above social justice, equality and an ethical foreign policy.

Just a glimpse. A glimpse
Not the Stevie Winwood track, which is better in every conceivable way
Different song I think. Amy's was a cover of the Zutons'.
Yes, and the Monkees did a belter called ‘Valleri’, again a different track but better than the Whinehouse one IMHO
And who did the remix of the Winwood version with the soft-porn video set in an aerobics class?
Why that would be Eric Prydz, and I didn’t need to google it.
Call on Me.
Would be frowned on today.
I believe Steve re-recorded "Call on me" specifically for Eric Prydz. The hit of Valerie was a remastering (with an orchestral flavour) version of the rather subdued track on Arc of a Diver.
Steve is only in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic, which demonstrates what a load of old shite the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is, particularly if you check out some of the 3rd rate American inductees.
Steve's eldest daughter is married to a guy who bankrolls the Conservative Party. Can't remember his name mind.

They've all upgraded to PB-Pro now. Are you not a member? There is a patreon. Tragic that they're reduced to that - but at least there's not an onlyfans yet.

That's not a despite, its England and Wales legislation. Yes the Senedd need to consent but that comes after the legislation is voted on in Parliament, so of course they should vote.

Yeah, but it’s England and Wales legislation.
Which will only apply in Wales if the Senedd approve it when they vote on it later this year.

I will be seeing Steve Winwood at Hyde Park on 13th July as he is one of the support acts for the last ever ELO concert.
You are right he should be in the Hall of Fame in his own right and again as a member of Blind Faith. Can't FInd My Way Home is one of the greatest tracks ever written. He was also part of the Electric Ladyland band for Hendrix and was in part responsible for the creation of Voodoo Chile.
He's really suggesting it will net cost the NHS money?
I would say that is an absolute certainty. Not necessarily a reason not to do it but it has just added another item to the list of services the NHS is legally obliged to provide.
Yes, but that's one service.
Net, how many future services would the NHS have been legally obliged to provide otherwise that it now would no longer be obliged to offer after that one service?
A single treatment instead of multiple ongoing treatments can be cheaper, net.
But they will still be obliged to provide all those services given that the vast majority of people will not be opting for suicide. A whole new permanent NHS department dealing with this whilst not being able to reduce/save costs in the other departments. For a start, bear in mind that in order to meet the need for immediate results given the 6 month timescale, this is not something you can have 'waiting lists' for. So it will have to be overstaffed. You can see why Streeting says it will cost significant money.
Not really, considering that people don't just do one kind of treatment. There is no reason why you'd need a department solely staffed by people doing this, rather than this being something people do as and when its required.
And yes services will need to be provided to others after someone dies, but not to the dead person any more. You've not taken that into account in your costings at all. Any 'waiting lists' someone was in they disappear from if they die, or any other costs associated with them too.
If waiting lists do develop imagine the law suits from aggrieved family members when he system takes longer than 6 months.
And yes, you will need considerable numbers of people to do the job. Not so much the actual killing, but the whole safeguarding system before it. If they are true to their word and there will be a thorough, in depth, examination of each case prior to allowing the suicide, then that is not something that can be rattled off in half an hour. All the more so since so many GPs have already said they will not take part in the system.
UKIP (or the rump left who have not gone Reform) now apparently classed by the leftwing protestors as far right
I wonder where they could have got that idea from?
Leader of UKIP, Nick Tenconi, whose rally at one point referred to migrants and the religion of Islam as a "cancer", said: "Good people of Nottingham and UKIP have joined us here today, for a march demanding and sending a clear message to the government that [there should be the] detention, re-migration and deportation of a suspected 8-10 million people in Britain illegally."

I did not vote for UKIP. That was a falsehood by you.
You voted for Farage who led UKIP and who backs deportations just like Tenconi and who leads a party which has been condemned for Islamophobia by British Muslim groups just like the UKIP party he used to lead

Luke Tryl @LukeTryl 🧵 Held a focus group of women yesterday just over/approaching retirement age and while it wasn’t surprising they were unhappy about the state of Britain, the sense of pessimism was so great that it was almost impossible to get them to talk about anything they felt was going well

All 3 active on BlueSky with a lot to say on British politics (and the format helps them get to the point.) I follow all three.
I'm a lot less engaged than I was; Brexit and the rise of the nationalist right is much to do with it, the aggression that the past decade has brought in British politics isn't for me; I've stepped down as a Councillor and I'm still an active observer but not so much participant now. Feels that no party really talks my language at the moment (although it'll be a cold day in June before I'm tempted by Reform)
JD Vance appears to be one of the people in the administration who are against US involvement:
Israeli officials have told the Trump administration they do not want to wait two weeks for Iran to reach a deal to dismantle key parts of its nuclear program and Israel could act alone before the deadline is up ...
The two sources familiar with the matter said Israel had communicated their concerns to Trump administration officials on Thursday in what they described as a tense phone call ...
During the call, Vice President JD Vance pushed back, saying the United States shouldn't be directly involved and suggesting that the Israelis were going to drag the country into war, said the sources.
We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It feels like an inexorable descent into chaos. I may even vote Conservative in the next election (my constituency is safish Tory), just to keep Reform at bay and help to preserve civilisation for a little longer.

No one in the centre or right reads Bluesky. It’s a self limiting ghetto with diminishing reach. Please stay there
I wouldn't use Bluesky, but @Leon has a totally irrational hatred of it, so I pull it up from time to time.
It’s not just me, I believe there was an article recently in some British magazine cruelly mocking Bluesky, which has become one of the most viral articles on social media, in the English speaking world

By destroying Iran’s major nuclear sites, Trump overturned decades of establishment orthodoxy that viewed Iran as a threat to manage not to defeat. Instead of appeasement, he chose confrontation by capitalizing on the successes of Israel and Turkey and reasserted U.S. dominance at a time when everyone is hoping for decline.
The Obama-Biden doctrine empowered Iran, punished Israel, and pressured U.S. allies to hold back whenever they tried to defend themselves.
When Saudi Arabia moved against the Houthis in Yemen, it was met with scolding from Washington. When Israel struck Hamas or took steps to disrupt Iran’s nuclear progress, it faced diplomatic pushback and arms delays.
Trump flipped that script. He treated America’s allies like allies. He didn’t second-guess their security decisions or tie their hands. He restored deterrence not by appeasing Tehran, but by backing those willing to contain it.
Under Trump, the United States stopped acting like a neutral referee and started acting like a committed partner, this absolutely changes the game in the region.

And John Loony who despite representing the most minor of minor parties had a huge seam of knowledge and insight. Hmm. Maybe that should be ‘because’ rather than ‘despite’.

A lot of post hoc rationalisation there. Here are a couple of very short videos (around a minute) of Richard Nixon talking about Israel and the Iranian revolution.

I don't care WHO you bomb back to the STONE age tonight but I want MY prize.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Tissue Price - we know why he left.

Literally.
You are right he should be in the Hall of Fame in his own right and again as a member of Blind Faith. Can't FInd My Way Home is one of the greatest tracks ever written. He was also part of the Electric Ladyland band for Hendrix and was in part responsible for the creation of Voodoo Chile.

The one and only never to be repeated Tim
Leader of UKIP, Nick Tenconi, whose rally at one point referred to migrants and the religion of Islam as a "cancer", said: "Good people of Nottingham and UKIP have joined us here today, for a march demanding and sending a clear message to the government that [there should be the] detention, re-migration and deportation of a suspected 8-10 million people in Britain illegally."
Pretty "right" I would say.

UKIP came 12th at those elections, behind Change UK. I did not vote for them in that, or any other election.

I did not vote for UKIP. That was a falsehood by you.

Moving and poignant. What a story

BREAKING: a Federal judge has ordered President Trump to rebuild Iran's nuclear sites
Fuck me.
Next thing you'll be telling me that Bibi isn't a big fan of the Guardian.
What happens now?

Loved Charles. That famous person in the news? His grandfather knew Charles' uncle. Or vice versa.
And John Loony who despite representing the most minor of minor parties had a huge seam of knowledge and insight. Hmm. Maybe that should be ‘because’ rather than ‘despite’.
We've become so used to information overload whenever something happens.
This time, it's just a total blackout.
We don't know how much of the facilities were destroyed. No pictures or on-location reports.
Mehdi Mohammadi, a senior adviser to Mohammad Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s Parliament, said in a post on social media that Iran had been anticipating attacks on Fordo for several nights. “The site had been evacuated a long time ago and the damages are not irreversible,” he wrote, adding, “you cannot bomb knowledge.”
