    Sunak is awesome.

Rishi Sunak is upholding Liz Truss’s decision to stop King Charles attending the Cop 27 climate conference, despite the monarch “ champing at the bit” to go.

The prime minister faces criticism over his own decision to skip the event and has been under pressure to allow the monarch to attend instead.

Charles is believed to be disappointed by the advice from No 10 that he should miss the event, which starts in Egypt next weekend, with allies suggesting that Sunak should let him go to prove Britain’s environmental commitment. However, the King will not force the issue after Downing Street made clear yesterday that Sunak would not reopen any debate about it.

    Sunak's awesome for skipping COP27?
For putting our unelected ruler in his place.
Well I just think Truss and Sunak are acting like idiots.

What are they gaining from this compared to the grief it’s already causing them?

    Great, but it's a rebuild

Disappointing if the Nashville thing is accurate because I expected the parthenon to look better than that. Columns look very dumpy.
They do have entasis though, the authentic slight swelling in the middle, so someone's made an effort. I wonder if it's the camera giving that impression of dumpiness, actually.
We're used to seeing the Parthenon on a steep promontory, which reduces its dumpy appearance maybe. It looks dumpier on the flat ground. That's presumably what inspired the abortive version on Calton Hill.

Well I didn't. But yes, it does make it taste better. I wouldn't want to add it to Prosecco (if that's the advice); Prosecco isn't meant to have that yeasty flavour that Champagne has from its secondary fermentation. It's made differently and is its own drink.

Certainly not Prosecco, that’s just fizzy fruit juice. I occasionally put it in Cava, crémant, other neutral sparkling that hasn’t had time on lees.

Prosecco does have a second fermentation though, but it’s in a pressurised tank (Charmat method). The yeasty flavour in champagne and English sparkling (and Franciacorta) is from autolysis when dead yeast cells in contact with the wine break down and release various proteins.

    Yes, I am equally tempted

On my recent trip (last week) on the new Rocky Mountaineer from Denver to Moab..

    https://www.rockymountaineer.com/train-routes/2-day-rail-denver-moab?package=a754R0000008iEpQAI

.... We were promised fabulous food and amazing wines. This did not happen. The food was quite dismal and the wine was Meh at best

However the cocktails! OMG, that trip reminded me of just how good a margarita can be, and equally, a Bloody Mary. Done with care and attention. Superb

Even better with a dash of sherry? I shall try

Sure, but entasis is meant to be invisible (meant to correct a tendency of straightforward tapering to look spindly). LG's point that the original is not on flat ground is a good one.
I am wondering if it's a case of the camera failing to have the perceptual properties that needs entasis when seen by the eye alone.

Gabble, about the Tories circa 2008.

It was really funny, he said it about the first poll on one night which saw the Tory lead cut and the next two polls showed the Tory lead increasing.
Sadly most recent polls seem to show “invisible, irrelevant Lib Dems on the fade”.

The yeasty flavour is from autolysis when dead yeast cells in contact with the wine break down and release various proteins.

    Indeed.

I like that yeasty flavour in Champagne or Cremant. It's my personal preference for a celebration drink. Various delicious British varieties we have now too.

Prosecco can also be nice though.

🚨 VI 🚨 A few days in Rishi Sunak’s tenure as PM, the polls are showing a small bounce but Labour have a formidable 28 point lead. Field 27-28 Oct 2022 🧵

    Con: 25% (+3 from 21-22 Oct)
    Lab: 53% (-3)
    Lib Dem 7% (-3)
    Green 4%(0)
    Reform UK 6%(+3)
    SNP 4% (0)

So for every two moderates Rishi Rich attracts he repels a swivel eyed and/or closet racist into the arms of the Refukers.

That makes his job twice as hard.
A little too early to say, but you might well be correct.

Early indications are that Sunak is attracting back a few previous Will-Not-Voters, and a few Londoners, but losing almost as many out the sewer exit to the latest black-shirt incarnation.

What does *not* seem to happening is any Lab or LD or SNP swing to Con.

There were a few fairly humdrum days in the early scenes of Threads.
Reece Dinsdale up on the moors with his bird listening to the car radio. Classic film scene.
The film peaks with woman who wets herself and the father on the crapper when the bomb drops and the unflinchingly positive look at life in the years after 'mageddon

Where are those minus of 3 for both of them going then?

Headline figures exclude WNVers and DKers. As soon as some WNVers and DKers decide that yes, they will now actually cast their votes for some party, the other ones *look* like they are diminishing, when in reality they might just be holding steady or even increasing.

He was always going to get rid of CFO/CFO/GC, etc., and that's to be expected.

I probably wouldn't have got rid of data analytics people - at least not on mass, and not on day one. Because you will end up hiring a bunch of people who don't know how the existing systems work, and that's a tough place to be.

I'm also sceptical about the everything app opportunity: can Twitter really dethrone Facebook, Google, Instagram, Apple, etc?

Ultimately: Twitter is moderately popular. It can probably be monetized better off a smaller cost base. But it isn't a growing platform. Maybe Musk can wring $7 bn of revs out of it in a year. And maybe he can do that with just a $2bn cost base. (But be warned: if people stop spending time on Twitter because investment has stopped, then that $7bn is going in only one direction.)

And I'd also note that it's not like Elon doesn't have other jobs: he's CEO of SpaceX and Tesla. I wish him well, and I'm sure he'll do a better job than the previous owners, but I suspect it will never pay back the $44bn.

More massive splits in Governor/Senate polling, this time in Penn.

Last 3 polls all give Dr Oz a 3 or 2 point lead over Fetterman (48% for Oz in each of the polls) but the Governor question in those polls gives a 6,8,10 point lead for the Dem Shapiro (with absolute fruitcake fascist Mastriano on 41/42/43).

Indeed in 2004 plenty of Tories backed Kerry as your hero Osborne wrote.

Monarchy = The cornerstone of Toryism

State control of the economy = Socialism

His political affiliation is unimportant - he needs to remove his considerable beak from British domestic politics.
If he wants to invite the King he can, he represents the most powerful nation on earth still
I can't imagine why it has escaped your attention that the Egyptians are the hosts.
The Egyptians have already invited the King

Just dropping in to give you a quote from my girlfriend:

"You've maxed out the full extent of the possible male human ego and were forced to create an alter ego on PB"

Me on Tuesday: "Mum, would you like to have a look at the new Bond Street station that opened yesterday?"

Sunil's mum: "You and your bloody Elizabeth Line!"
Friday night in here. dear GF hasn’t switched off work laptop yet, and I’m knitting. 🥹

After the grief I received the other evening after revealing that I was wearing a cardigan, I'll take the risk of disclosing that Wor Lass is half way through knitting me a tank top.
If she does a balaclava next, nobody will know it is you in the cardigan.
Talking of balaclavas, when is the Northern Ireland election?
Probably 15 December, but not yet confirmed.

Something some of us have mentioned before has been picked up by Forbes - that China could switch from Taiwan to going for the east of the Urals. Vladivostok was claimed by China.

Why do #BBCNews keep calling Sinn Fein nationalists? What do Sinn Fein want? A united ireland. European unionism. They’re Unionists.

What does the DUP want? Out of the EU. In an insular narrow minded UK. They’re Nationalists.

    SF are Irish nationalists.

They were also the political wing of a terrorist organisation which the DUP never were
Loyalist terrorism was, and is, rife. The DUP are the main political wing of that sect.

It is a good point Stuart makes though. It only makes sense if you add 'Irish' as you have pointed out.

I didn’t see any of these pathetic liberal pantywaists weeping similarly when Facebook and Twitter were on THEIR side and spent A YEAR censoring any mention of the lab leak hypothesis in case it “helped Trump”

Facebook on the liberal side? It's literally the #1 right wing media outlet.

I assume you have seen an original and are not basing your post on that YouTube, or you are joking. It's not as if they even tried to hide the editing. Gullible or what.

Wonder how many TA's we'll get back after half term?
Lidl is paying £11 an hour. A 16% increase on a TA pay. And get paid in the holidays too.

Ha no! But I was more thinking it might get overwhelmed with grotty alt-right hatemongering and conspiracist material. If so all the good people will get fed up and leave.

Sunak after a decent start of 24 hours is fast going down the plug hole.

From his decision to bring back the sociopath Braverman and now putting the blocks on Charles going to Egypt .

Since the vast majority of the UK public agree on climate change I don’t see what’s controversial about Charles going .

No DUP elected officials were former terrorists unlike SF elected officials.

The political wing of the loyalist terrorist groups were parties like the PUP
