The format is a bit shit (I felt the intro was a bit Krypton Factor-y) but at least it feels like a different flavour and not a total re-tread of the C4 debate. But some of the questioning is a bit...indirect. Like, "I'll drop this clanger over here and see if anyone's stupid enough to pipe up".

Fetterman is slaughtering Oz in Pennsylvania.

Don't know how this is translating to polls but it is hilarious.

There was an AARP poll out yesterday that shows Oz six points behind. Worth noting that the AARP shows the Republicans doing very well in the Congressional ballot. So, it would appear that there are a meaningful number of Republicans that - for one reason or another - just don't like Oz.

Oz won nomination by inches, and has done little to nothing in reaching out to consolidate the GOP base, or anything else frankly.

Politico ran a story about this a couple weeks ago or so, in particular about Republican wise-guy angst about Oz's slow (rather nonexistent) post-primary campaign. Which is in stark contrast to Fetterman, even though HE is still recovering from his stroke.

Interesting angle from Mordaunt to say she is the only one to win a Labour seat - a red wall pitch.

Liz causing the moderator to laugh out loud with her talk of not attacking fellow conservatives. Very unconvincing evasion about her campaign being negative. Her talk of Reagan seems a clear attempt to try to grab a Thatcher comparison.

Oz is not a great candidate and it's not helped by the fact he lives in NJ.

Feel Mordaunt should have pushed back on the idea 'so many' Brexit figures were backing Truss. Makes it look like she accepts that is inevitable.

A good question though for members, as the idea Rishi and she are not solid Brexiteers is silly.

Kemi talking my language about not banging on about Brexit, but not sure who she is pitching that too in the party.

Strong answer for Truss - she has reinforced she delivers for Brexiteers.

Strongest moment for Kemi going after Sunak on Covid fraud, she's been invisible.

I think his answer is decent - they had to move very quickly after all.

His question to Liz was lame and a big mistake - about her being a LD and remainer in the past and which she regretted. That's easy to bounce back on, and looks petty.

Just switched in the ITV debate late… and the candidates are getting to ask each other questions! This is a fun format. Badenoch attacks Sunak. Sunak attacks Truss…

Truss doing better here. The red dress is a better choice! And she’s ripping into Sunak in return.

Then Truss questions Sunak. They’re really bringing up interesting issues. Let’s have this in all the debates.

Interesting question from Penny to Sunak re defence spending .

I’m pretty sure TT will endorse Penny once he goes out .

Mordaunt now asks Sunak why he won't raise defence spending, Sunak responds it will be threat based.

Feels like PMQs now - but that does play well for RIshi.

Its a Rishi pile on and he is just batting them all away. If anyone seriously thinks any of the other 4 are up to it, they're mad.

Liz responding to privileged Rishi pretty well.
    Rishi’s question was pathetic.

As I noted earlier Rishi is burnishing his leave credentials because, him being a vaguely sensible type, people naturally mistake him for a remainer.

Ouch, that's a truly nasty question from Sunak, very spiteful.

Truss trying to get back over education, overlooking that she was a Lib Dem at uni.

FFS, mentioning the maths gcse though, that's been an absolute catastrophe. Doesn't work on any level at all, including setting up for further study. Also not reliable in the marking. Never mention that as it's a serious black mark.

Truss was schooled, mainly, under the Tories as well. So any lack of opportunity is down to them.

How long before LT tells another hopeful tonight, "There you go again!"

Mordaunt also asks her question to Sunak. Do they all see him as the one to beat? It’s a good tactic to go after the frontrunner, but it also gives Sunak more screen time.

Ah, but Tugendhat asks his question to Mordaunt! His is the least interesting question. The others went for the jugular.

(You wouldn’t know Truss is younger than Mordaunt.)

We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be.
