Education Secretary Nicky Morgan - who said on the BBC's Question Time that the PIP cuts were just a "suggestion" at this stage - has been slapped down by Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith.
A source close to Mr Duncan Smith told BBC News the government was not in "concession territory".
They added: "I don't know how Thicky Nicky is explaining what she said, but she doesn't quite seem to have understood what Iain has been saying."

The last 48 hours have again shown what nonsense it is to claim Osborne is "centre-ground".
The Westminster bubble may think the mark of being "right-wing" is how Eurosceptic someone is, but in the public eye the main thing that makes someone right-wing (or, the way normal people think of it, what makes someone a "typical Tory") is their willingness to be nasty to vulnerable people and to be unconcerned about public services, in order to throw wads of cash at the rich. On that score, Osborne fulfills the stereotype just as much as Hague or Howard or IDS as leaders ever did.0 -

I think it's less about being left or right wing and more about how political he is. Brown used to throw money at his client state and Osborne is the same. The Tories have clearly identified the people they need to keep happy to secure a Remain vote in the referendum and they'll do what it takes.Danny565 said:The last 48 hours have again shown what nonsense it is to claim Osborne is "centre-ground".

It's just a shame that the opposition parties don't have any credibility when it comes to the public finances. Labour and the SNP just look ridiculous anytime they point out the fantasy of Osborne's projections for public borrowing. Andrew Neil made this point to Hannah Bardell from the SNP on This Week last night.0 -

I think you make a fair point. Being a 'nasty Tory' is multi faceted but it usually involves callous indifference to the poor and minorities and a large dose of xenophobia. Looking at the Aylsham Broadland result I note that compared with the July 2013 by election in the same ward the LibDems are actually down a couple of points with both Tories and Labour a tad higher! So what looks like a very good result for the LibDems is rather less impressive when it emerges that they performed better over three years into the coalition!
