    The comedy value of the election campaign is down today.

    Surely there is another brilliant wheeze to be found at Labour HQ to keep us entertained. Yesterday will be hard to beat but it is a bank holiday and laughing at our politicians is one of the UK's better traditions.

    Ed, in fairness, tried this morning on the Today program but that was sad rather than funny.

    I guess this is some of the brilliant campaigning by Labour which Mr IOS was telling us about this morning. SLAB deserve everything which is coming their way, when they stoop to this level. I can understand why all the BT crew whip this sort of thing up into a frenzy, but why do the MSM play along like sheep and then don't bother correcting their rubbishy articles, which aren't even fit for wrapping a poke of chips in.

    I lost big on the Indyref as I cannot trade markets, I'm rubbish at it for in-play rugby matches and it turns out I'm rubbish at political markets.

    A week ago, Mr Brand, who had obviously studied the matter thoroughly, emphatically did not believe in voting and yet it only took a few minutes of one-to-one tuition in realpolitik from a politician on the make to persuade him otherwise. I do hope his (Mr Brand's) disciples are not too confused.

    I believe most "women's" events like this can actually be entered by men if they want.

    e.g "The Moon Walk" used to be an event targeted squarely at women, but lots of men got involved in it.
    RfL has had a lot of deserved criticism in the past for not allowing men - or even young boys - on it. The rules were apparently loosened slightly, but not that much afaik.

    Apparently they think allowing men to enter would raise *less* money, by some weird calculation. Although they are willing to use men for volunteering at events.
    There have always been men's and women's sporting events as women have very different physical capabilities. Although road running is mostly mixed but I think cross country still more likely to be segregated.
    There are plenty of races where men and women take part - all the Parkruns, for instance.
    Grr, they're a run not a race, and all lower case.

    I have done 114 but missed this weekend due to drinking too much on Friday :-( But made up for it with a decent (for me) 10k on Sunday.

    Although often multi-terrain I think they come under the general heading of "road running", although I have heard that cross-country is gaining popularity due to people starting off-road running at parkruns. But it does seem to be a strange little world mostly based around competitive club leagues, rather than all-comers events like road races.

    RfL is hardly a 'race', either.

    Congrats on the runs - wish I could do it!

    The local parkrun Mrs J attends is mostly off-road, around the grounds of Wimpole Hall. Great fun after heavy rain, especially the slopes. ;-)

    Why is it only the Nats who insist on crow-barring the Scottish vernacular into written English at every opportunity? (I bet the author went to a good school and university.) It really is a bit patronizing and naff. I've spent decades corresponding with highly educated and intelligent Scots, and none would ever dream of doing it. Is it a confidence thing?

    A Green leaflet pushed through door - rail nationalisation, living wage, end to tuition fees, end to austerity, saving the environment - much of content aimed at students - 6 endorsements from people under 25 - not much use sending out leaflets like it to households with kids, the middle aged. Bristol Greens not as organised as Labour or LDs in terms of profiling households, despite claiming that they are the fastest growing political party in the area.

    The Greens look like a catch all protest party from the 70s.

    I'm fine betting on outcomes - I'm a profitable rugby bettor - I just can't live trade markets.

    I should have stuck to sucking all the money out of the Turnout 75%+ market (which was odds against for a long, long time during the IndyRef period) on Betfair rather then trying to guess the Yes/No market reaction to polling data.

    Elections are where rentacrowds earn their money for the next 5 years. The National Union of Rentacrowds is urging all its members to vote tactically for a hung parliament to boost business.
    Is there a reason why labour placards are pink now - not just the women only bus?

    Indeed its pretty plain that if you are worried about Lab/SNP or worried about no referendum, you should vote Tory.
    Not so , the EU is a good reason for voting Lib Dem , Those like you who do not care how much damage is done to the economy of this country as long as you have a referendum are endangering the livelihoods of many people .

    But SPIN numbers are not determined by Analysts. It is punters money which decides the spread. More like Tory punters !

    What makes little sense is the divergence between punters betting on the seats index and the individual seats. On individual seats Cons are favourite in approx 280, Labour in 265, SNP 54, Liberal Democrats 24. The only case for backing Cons on the indexis that the volume in the seats market is so small that if you are looking for a big bet easier to buy seats, or back most seats where again possible to put on a decent size bet.

    Anent that 'no': you really do seem to be in a hurry to find fault with the Caledonians.

    It's actually a typo for 'not' (cut off at the side of the image). Plus he forgot the apostrophe in monkey's.

    if it really were Scots, then 'Fowk who dinna gie a puggie's' would be one possible Scots interpretation (precise assonance and transliteration determined by precise location in the Lowlands).

    As for my own use of 'Anent'- it's a good word - better than 'Re' and shorter than 'Concerning'. The Kirk use it and that's good enough for me.

    As I'm following various BT hacks and supporters my Twitter went into a BT Project Fear Meltdown when Jim and Eddie were shouted at by 4 protestors. Having tracked down the footage as far as I can tell the main pushing and shoving was being done by SLAB activists, who were manhandling some chap with a loudhailer:

    All I can say is before Twittering condemnation of violence on the streets of Glasgow best to view the evidence first, I guess the BT/MSM mantra of why let the facts get in the way of a story is alive and well.

    This is, I think, a problem with daily online polls. Has there been any research into the concept of 'survey fatigue'?

    Repetaedlt polling the same small band of respondents may severly distort the results.

    The only change I have been able to record in the six I have done is to become ever more emphatic in my answers where that is possible.
    I stopped doing them because there were so many and so tedious. I also do not see how they can avoid being packed full of tribalists and political nerds both of which groups do not resemble remotely the average jo!

    I don't want to add to your rattlement, but this is really not a partisan point. You have two sets of polls, phone and online, giving differing readings. One set self-confessedly breaks the very, very, very first rule of polling which is: select a RANDOM sample. The other doesn't. Which set do you go with?
    You have no more idea than I do whether the phone or online polls are more accurate - I am 100% certain that if the online polls had the biggest lead for the Tories you would be rubbishing the phone polls.

    I hate hyprocrites...nothing more than that.

    Brand, has got a nice gig going in the old revolutionary politics. Books, movies, youtube channel, all nice little earners, while being a massive hypocrite.

    He gets very shirty if anybody points that out though. He was charging for a Q&A session the other week and didn't like it when somebody did back to him, what he does to others, and they weren't even disagreeing that strongly.

Having tracked down the footage as far as I can tell the main pushing and shoving was being done by SLAB activists, who were manhandling some chap with a loudhailer:

    All I can say is before Twittering condemnation of violence on the streets of Glasgow best to view the evidence first, I guess the BT/MSM mantra of why let the facts get in the way of a story is alive and well.

    It's pretty obvious to everyone except the Scottish media that Clerkin is being tipped off by Murphy himself. Clerkin's been admitting as much to those that ask according to Twitter.

    Yes - if the Cons+ Lib Dems + DUP can get to 323 then they can form a Gov't.

    Very weak Gov't but I'd expect Conservatives to try.

    Whether the Lib Dems want to be part of such a weak arrangement is another matter, but it is perfectly legitimate.
    That would certainly need a bigger LD result than I think is possible. There will be a decent squeeze on them (IMO, of course).

    I'm guessing that the Sheffield Hallam poll will show either Clegg or the Labour guy very slightly ahead.
    We'll have howls of "He's lost"/"He made it", depending on which way round it is, if so. Most people will assume that it's actually too close to call.

    If, however, it really is "interesting", one or the other will be 10+ ahead. And we'll wonder if it being on a Bank Holiday weekend might have influenced it.

    Ah, I'm finally all polled out. It's somewhere between a 2 point Labour lead and a 4 point Tory lead, probably a thin Tory lead. UKIP have faded somewhat but aren't defunct. The Lib Dems are just under 10 percent and the Greens didn't break through.

    There may or may not be incumbency bonuses; there may or may not be a late swing in either direction. Neither is likely to be irrefutably shown in polls. We've very probably got all the data we're going to get until the exit poll - which will, itself be more uncertain than ever.

    Why is it only the Nats who insist on crow-barring the Scottish vernacular into written English at every opportunity? (I bet the author went to a good school and university.) It really is a bit patronizing and naff. I've spent decades corresponding with highly educated and intelligent Scots, and none would ever dream of doing it. Is it a confidence thing?
    What's wrong with allowing people to attend university who speak vernacular?
