Finally, someone gets him on energy costs.0
-
Earlier on most people on here were saying Miliband had made an error in going last because no one would be watching/this bit wouldn't make the news at this time didn't they?0
-
This is brutal. For both of them. We need Paxo back to keep our politicians in check and suitably modest.0
-
Ed says spending will fall inder his control.
Really?0 -
He's a petulant student arguing with his tutor...0
-
That is exactly what it feels like to me - I've seen lecturers argue like this during seminars. It is pretty embarrassing when the topic is medieval history, even more so debating public policy.FrancisUrquhart said:In my experience, lecturers don't like being lectured to, they end up arguing instead.
A shame for the chap - he overachieved in the public questions.

I called it earlier that Ed was mad to go 2nd and face Paxman last. Unless he has something up his sleeve . . .0
-
Pictures of the audience laughing at ed can't be good0
-
Seems a standard reaction to Paxo - oftimes his questions are hardly revolutionary, it's just he seems to get away with asking them aggressively and interrupting people to unsettle them more than others. Not sure why.Ghedebrav said:Hmm. EM struggling, getting flustered. Surprised he didn't anticipate some of these lines of attack and have better responses in his pocket.
Will the anti-austerity people watching (I assume there are a few at least) actually note Ed's comments about cuts in the non-protected departments?

Did you watch the opening bit?Monksfield said:Did Cameron do a non agression pact with Paxo as his condition for participation?
Paxo is on top form against both of them.0 -
This is so embarrassing0
-
Paxman is forcing Miliband to defend the New Labour record, Miliband is refusing to defend it thus it doesn't look good.0
-
Maybe, somebody can arrange for him to do specials like this, because he was useless on Newsnight towards the end. The interview with the Flowers and Brand come to to mind, they were as embarrassing as Cameron and Miliband on this.DavidL said:This is brutal. For both of them. @mehdirhasan: Why isn't Ed Miliband better prepared to deal with obvious overspending and deficit questions? WHY? WHY?? Fire someone!

Miliband looks petrified on Jim Murphy question.0
-
Sky. And Channel Four.SeanT said:Miliband is truly terrible. And I thought Cameron was poor.
Labour are very lucky this is on SKY. No one will watch, or care.0 -
Oh dear Milliband struggling there0
-
Losing London Ed.0
-
Good line of attack from Paxo to pick on the mansion tax. It's a crap policy.0
-
This is worse than Cameron. Not Natalie Bennett bad. But not miles away either.
If Cameron was a 5/10, Miliband is a 3/10.0 -
"other types of blood money".0
-
Sure I'm watching on C4.SeanT said:Miliband is truly terrible. And I thought Cameron was poor.
Labour are very lucky this is on SKY. No one will watch, or care.
Yep it is.0 -
@PickardJE: Miliband squirming as Paxman quotes back at him the JimMurphy line that mansion tax will siphon cash from SE to Scotland #BattleForNumber100
-
Headlines....."PAXO-ed"....Shame the Sun will have already gone to print before this, as I could see boxes of stuffing with David and Ed's faces on them.0
-
Paxman overreaching there.0
-
Ed finally lands a punch back. But he's been on the ropes for most of this.0
-
Laughter at Labour getting an overall majority.0
-
Good comeback from Ed there.0
-
Cameron had a tough time with paxman but at least wasn't embarrassing. Ed is awful0
-
Audience laughing at Ed. Again0
-
You're important Jeremy but not that important. lol0
-
Probably a good call to have the Paxo bit last in that respect at least...FrancisUrquhart said:Headlines....."PAXO-ed"....Shame the Sun will have already gone to print before this, as I could see boxes of stuffing with David and Ed's faces on them.

OT - it may be me, the onset of arthritis or senility but I discovered that I have a strange keyboard. Whatever key I hit it comes up with a random letter. If the Germans had my laptop they would have won the war and Benedict Cumberbatch would be receiving awards in New Berlin for portraying the life story of Albert Speer0
-
If Miliband did attack Murdoch then this interview is going to be on every day at peak viewing.Mortimer said:
It is also on C4 - not that it helps hugely, but I imagine 4m plus viewers...SeanT said:Miliband is truly terrible. And I thought Cameron was poor.
Labour are very lucky this is on SKY. No one will watch, or care.0 -
Delusion is a special form of Labour madness. Overall majority? Do me a favour...0
-
Channel 4 as well!!SeanT said:Miliband is truly terrible. And I thought Cameron was poor.

Ed slaps Paxo about0
-
-
Paxo disses Cameron and Ed defends him?0
-
"Let me tell you.. Let me tell you.."
Audience laughing at him now.0 -
Feck this is embarrassing. Audience laughing.0
-
The minor leaders must be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of duffing up Ed.
0 -
NOW THAT WAS EMBARRASSING
Ed's start to the putin Question.0 -
@PickardJE: Miliband on not entering Syria bombing: "Standing up to the leader of the free world shows a certain toughness....hell I'm tough enough."
"Are you proud of it?"
Err, no0 -
Not a bad line from Ed M about presumption, though poorly delivered, but the audience liked it.
Oh gods, "A bloke on X said to me". Come on Paxo. This question on Ed M being not tough enough is more of a soft one, Ed should know how to deal with that one.
Not sure about him bringing up Syria - I'm sure I recall his plan was to approve some action there, just not right away, but he plays it as though he never wanted anything. Maybe my recollection is wrong0 -
Simon Danczuk0
-
Paxman getting too personal here. Looks like bullying. Brown gained from being in the same position.0
-
I wonder if rosaree, will be along soon to tell us by how much Ed, cleared the low bar set by Dave?0
-
Has Paxo called out Murphy's lies ?0
-
Ed makes me squirm just listening to him or watching his mannerisms, but I am starting to feel a bit sorry for him because he is so inept.0
-
Oh dear.Head in hands.0
-
No question that EM has had it tougher than DC. But he's not dealt well with it. Needs to take his time with his responses a bit more.0
-
Miliband successfully slapped Paxman on the toughness question using Syria.0

Plus the BBC News Channel and website (a little buried, though). But not BBC One.

Ed wants this to last another ten minutes, he is getting better.0
-
Milliband doing ok in this later part, after a tough start with Paxman.0
-
Like I said, it's too personal from Paxo. Ed looking bullied here. Might do well out of it now. Ed trying to play the DUEMA line as well. Not looking too bad at the end of it.0
-
anti semiteSunil_Prasannan said:North London GEEK
EDIT sorry thats North London Intellectual
EDIT double sorry I was watching 5 mins behind didn't realise Paxo had said that0 -
So tough he stood up to a nice friendly soft-left democratic American leader rather than nasty scary Putin.Speedy said:Miliband successfully slapped Paxman on the toughness question using Syria.

Paxo has allowed Miliband to do prepared rousing finale.0
-
Paxman lost his way over Scotland but apart from that Ed has been on the ropes for most of this.
0 -
Ed/Paxo 4.5/10
Totals :
Dave .... 13.5/20
Ed .... 11/20
0 -
Out of order from Paxo - he knew that would be on air.0
-
Are you all right, Ed?
0 -
Mic still on when Paxman asks, "Are you ok, Ed?"0
-
WTF has this got to with David Miliband? Time to move on0
-
Paxman mentioning David Miliband got more groans from the audience.0
-
Ooops. They left the mic on as Paxo asked him 'Are you alright?'
That'll be the most important meme of the night!0 -
Oops, that bit shouldn't have been broadcast.0
-
"Are you ok, ED?"
oooohh...0 -
"Are you OK?" - Not good when the interviewer feels sorry for you.0
-
'Are you alright Ed?' From Paxman , on an open mic.0
-
Oh dear. Paxman ends to Miliband with: "are you alright?"
Human sympathy. Not good for a politician.0 -
Indeed.SeanT said:Oh my word. no no no. Ed. Not Syria, Oh god.
Facepalm MOMENT.
It is amazing how often Ed says he doesn't care, or who cares. Then he says he cares about the public.
Does he realise that people have to care to vote for him?
Just like they have to think he talks sense for him actually to be considered to be talking sense.
He wants to be judged on what he does for Britain, but doesn't care what people think? Makes no sense, sir.

Funny isn't that Dave and Ed got Paxo'ed...Boris Paxo'ed Paxman last time they did a big interview....Paxman was totally beaten into submission by Boris.0
-
Like DC he got caught flat footed by the ferocity but came to terms and did better towards the end.TwistedFireStopper said:Milliband doing ok in this later part, after a tough start with Paxman.

The microphone picked up Paxman asking Ed if he was ok at the end. He did seem a bit shaky.0
-
Ed wiped the floor with Paxo!!!0
-
Very good ending of Miliband, it was almost as like I would have answered.0
-
Gaffe spotted! Ed referred to working people, but didn't specify 'hard working people', very off message Tut tut.
Ed's prepared for these answers on him being weak, and having a poor image, certain lines are more clearly well planned than others.
Honestly, he didn't do great there, but the final ones he was ready for - if anything, Paxo's 'You doing alright?" at the very very end seemed more likely to give a poor impression on Ed than his answers, not stellar as some were.
Still, no-one need tell us all to stop being excited and it means nothing, we know.

And we have a new headline....williamglenn said:Mic still on when Paxman asks, "Are you ok, Ed?"
0 -
Ok, my Twitter timeline calls it for Ed0
-
Decent end for Ed, but I feel the catastrophic beginning is what will stick with people.0
-
Well, my wife and I thought Ed did well against some rather nasty personal attacks.0
-
Truly a vindication for the format.0
-
On the Paxman segment Miliband did a 5/10, better than Cameron.
So in total Miliband did a 6.5/10.
Better than Cameron and far better than expected.0 -
Very personal from Paxo. Where were the questions like that for his mate Dave0
-
Cameron: statesmanlike, calm, measured if a touch arrogant but still very assured
Miliband: dreadful with the audience. Mauled first half by Paxo then picked up only to be floored by the final bit caught on mic which will make the news wires.
Scores on the doors out of 10
Cameron 8
Miliband 30 -
BBC News @ 10.20 say both pretty much the same, both a bit 'bruised'Mortimer said:This is as bad as people could have feared for Ed. Really, objectively bad vs Paxo.

If that is the case FP then this posting from you is clearly proof of the infinite monkey theory because your random letters have formed a completely coherent sentence. :-)Flightpath said:OT - it may be me, the onset of arthritis or senility but I discovered that I have a strange keyboard.
