    UK voted for Israel.

So fuck off BDS PSC Momentum Green Party etc

Despite your multiple votes Genociders lost.

Worst result since Corbyn in 2019!
I bet on Israel but then regretted it. The issue was that music industry jury voters are more likely to be left wing, which limited the points Israel would get there.
I don’t think it’s about juries being left wing. It’s about Israel having a middling song.

It was too generic. It feels like the Beeb went for something that Euro audiences would like but it just blended in to the background.

The other issue I would say is expat votes. Brits in Europe tend to be elderly retirees who are less likely to watch Eurovision.
I think it's the opposite, if it was merely bland it would have got 50-60 audience points. The stage show was actively off putting for audiences, people don't want to see a bunch of blokes grinding up against each other in a recreation of a men's room you might find in Soho.
Cameo got away with cod pieces in the 80’s because “Word up” was an awesome song unlike the bland nonsense we dished up.

The song was crap, the artist couldn't sing and the stage was a recreation of a men's room at a bar in Soho in the 90s. It was never going to do well, zero is what it deserved. We're lucky that the juries took sympathy on the UK this time or it could have been 0 overall.
    It wasn't great, was it.

In view of the gay and Israel comments tonight, we should remind ourselves that Israel is the only country to have won Eurovision with a trans singer, Dana International, and their last winner was certainly a gay-friendly act.

Wasn't Concita Wurst Trans? And Nemo wearing a skirt tonight, albeit flying the nonbinary flag.

There is no reason to believe that Israel was scored unfairly. And is the music industry left-wing? Surely it is capitalism at its most cut-throat.

The Israeli points allocation was interesting, 24 points to Luxembourg (12 from public + 12 from juries), 18 to Ukraine (10+8), 18 to Germany (8+10), 13 to Italy (7+6), 10 to Austria (3+7), only 9 points for Croatia, 5 for Switzerland and none for Ireland.

Breaking: Trump used a dubious accounting maneuver to claim improper tax breaks from his troubled Chicago tower, according to an IRS inquiry uncovered by NYT and ProPublica.

Losing a yearslong audit battle over the claim could mean a tax bill of more than $100 million.

You can tell from the 30-second clip quoted by Meidas that it is clear Trump knows what he is saying. It is a joke from which he pivots into talking, or rather scaremongering, about immigration.

Per detailed results on Wiki - the top 3 in the public vote was very close. Switzerland (overall winner) was 5th.

    Public vote:

    Croatia - 337
    Israel - 323
    Ukraine - 307
    France - 227
    Switzerland - 226

However in the public vote, 15 countries gave Israel 12 points, whereas only 9 countries gave Croatia 12 points. But Croatia got more points in total suggesting its support was more consistent.

Something odd about those results is that Israel gave 12 points to only one country, Luxembourg, but it gave 12 points from both its jury and public votes. Wikipedia reveals that:-

Tali Golergant (Hebrew: טלי גולרגנט; born 26 November 2000), known mononymously as Tali, is an Israeli-Luxembourgish singer, songwriter, actress and vocal coach. She is representing Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Fighter".

This is the one where he had an office tower in Chicago, claimed it was worth zero, wrote it off and claimed the tax benefit. Then transferred it to another company inside the Trump group, and wrote it down to zero for a second time, therefore claiming the losses twice over?

There's a word for this, and it isn't "aggressive"...

A bit unfair of the Times of Israel to quote by name one of the most blinkered viewers of the Eurovision Song Contest.
    https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/tel-aviv-eurovision-fans-decry-juries-snub-of-israel-as-obviously-political/
“When Israel was given super-high points, I was feeling very happy because it’s (about) music,” not politics, says Nelly Bernardi, 41.

However, she tells AFP she found the first part of the voting “shameful”.

“The (jury) points were given in a political way… It was quite obvious.”

Croatia had fun. Swiss had staging. French had a voice. Israel had a political edge from the voting public.

We had none of that. Plus, unforgivably, our backing dancers were just so damned ugly. There was no distracting eye candy.

The Ukranians gave Israel zero because Golan has dual nationality with Russia, and has entered for Russia in junior Eurovision, and performed in occupied Crimea on Russian TV. She moved to Israel in 2022.

In view of the gay and Israel comments tonight, we should remind ourselves that Israel is the only country to have won Eurovision with a trans singer, Dana International, and their last winner was certainly a gay-friendly act.

Nemo, this year’s Swiss winner, identifies as non-binary (that’s what the song is about) and thus counts as trans too.
And probably explained why the judges loved it.

I thought it a crap durge, and entirely forgettable.

    Croatia should have won.
Croatia had fun. Swiss had staging. French had a voice. Israel had a political edge from the voting public.

We had none of that. Plus, unforgivably, our backing dancers were just so damned ugly. There was no distracting eye candy.
I don't even want to be reminded of our entry yet alone comment on it.

It's possibly the first time in my life I'd be happy to betray my country.

Wasn't Concita Wurst Trans? And Nemo wearing a skirt tonight, albeit flying the nonbinary flag.
Wasn’t Dana transexual but Conchita is transvestite, as is Nemo.

That's not right. We came second 2 years ago, and would have been top if not for Ukraine. We have often been mid table, as well as a few embarrassing bottom positions.

It is rather arrogant to assume that we should win a contest with over 40 possible entries on a regular basis.

Very true. Also unless you make the top ten in a country you won't get any points. There are 15 countries outside the top ten each time.

"Excuse me. I'm about to have a friend for dinner," as this poor doctor walked by. "I'm about to have a friend for dinner." But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter..."

You can tell from the 30-second clip quoted by Meidas that it is clear Trump knows what he is saying. It is a joke from which he pivots into talking, or rather scaremongering, about immigration.

I think even our current Hone Secretary would be both ridiculed and condemned for such a 'joke'.

Breaking: Trump used a dubious accounting maneuver to claim improper tax breaks from his troubled Chicago tower, according to an IRS inquiry uncovered by NYT and ProPublica.

Losing a yearslong audit battle over the claim could mean a tax bill of more than $100 million.

    https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1789324849355104274

This is the one where he had an office tower in Chicago, claimed it was worth zero, wrote it off and claimed the tax benefit. Then transferred it to another company inside the Trump group, and wrote it down to zero for a second time, therefore claiming the losses twice over?

There's a word for this, and it isn't "aggressive"...
This tax investigation was the reason he claimed he couldn't produce his tax returns in...2016 when he first stood for office. And its still not concluded.

In the meantime he has effectively had a $100m loan of working capital from the taxpayer at 3%. Better than anyone else was offering him, I would have thought.

Looks like Hamas cost Croatia Eurovision….
Though the Netherlands getting chucked out probably cost Israel.

Switzerland and Ireland in particular benefitted from the Netherlands being out, as both had been openly critical of Israel.

..In Charleston next week, Haley is set to meet with donors who supported her campaign as a “thank you.” Haley is not expected to endorse Trump, nor is she expected to ask her donors to support him.

Haley, when exiting the race, said it was up to Trump to win the support of moderate Republicans and independent voters who backed her across the country..

    Good morning, everyone.

F1: looking forward quite a lot to the next race. Last time, Norris just drove away from Verstappen. I do think Red Bull botched the setup, but that also seems to have occurred in Australia. If the new McLaren can repeat that, it bodes well.

She is representing Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Fighter".
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tali_Golergant
Cyprus got most votes from Greece. But they got their second most amount of votes from Australia. Cyprus’s singer was born in Australia, to Cypriot parents. Voters like having a connection.
So basically, how bad or good the actual music was has fuck all to do with the outcome?

Makes the whole thing seem rather pointless.
The music was almost non existent. The spectacle is the thing. I would pay to see the Swiss performance, which had a charm as well as skill, and none of the others. On that basis the right act won in my view.

I hope to one day see Iceland win, they seem to be all Eurovision crazy (the voting numbers for their national final was insane - 118,000 votes in the final round in a population of 380,000). I think Malta deserve to host too, they've been in 35 times without winning.

As I far as I can tell virtually everyone in the Jewish diaspora with a TV voted for Israel last night, and repeatedly.

My friend did so multiple times.
It was well publicised in the Jewish press. Max PB said his household voted 60 times!

As I don't think he's Jewish he and his huge family must have just loved the song!
Modi sympathisers, and therefore natural Islamophobes.
