Exclusive: Outspoken critic of Hundred lands ECB chief executive job
Former tank commander has been in charge of Somerset and Surrey, and was a vocal opponent of The Hundred
The England and Wales Cricket Board are set to announce Richard Gould, an outspoken critic of the Hundred, as their new chief executive.
Gould, who is currently CEO at Championship football club Bristol City, has beaten Tim Bostock, the boss at Durham, to the job after a final round of interviews on Wednesday.
The ECB Board are understood to have met on Friday and Gould’s appointment will be confirmed in the coming days.
The appointment of Gould, a traditionalist who has spoken publicly against the Hundred, will please county fans, but there will be some ECB employees who greet it with trepidation at a time of great flux in the game both domestically and globally.
While Gould, 52, currently works in football, he has spent much of his working life in county cricket. The former tank commander was chief executive at Somerset between 2005 and 2011, then Surrey from 2011 and 2021. He left Surrey to return to Bristol City, where he had a long history; his father Bobby played for the club, and he worked there as a younger man.

All the bile raised towards Sunak is all to do with the betrayal of Boris Johnson, not his skin colour.
We had four non white people in a row as Chancellor, skin colour hardly mentioned, all the focus was on policies.
I support Sunak because he's by far the best candidate.
We need to get beyond this.
You equivocated during the last contest, quite rightly, because Rishi is significantly flawed.
Nevertheless we must wish him well, and to come to power for Diwali is surely auspicious.0 -

The Hundred must be in trouble now. Runs at a loss, buggers up the season, hated by the fans, not backed by the board.
And still has to run for three more years because of the stupid rights deal.0 -
They won't kill the hundred....its ECB plan to sell it to venture capitalists. They can't do that with T20 as they don't own the "franchises". It would be a huge financial loss if they just ditched it now, which they can't afford.TheScreamingEagles said:Hurrah

He left Surrey to return to Bristol City, where he had a long history; his father Bobby played for the club, and he worked there as a younger man.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2022/10/22/outspoken-critic-hundred-lands-ecb-chief-executive-job/
The Hundred must be in trouble now. Runs at a loss, buggers up the season, hated by the fans, not backed by the board.
And still has to run for three more years because of the stupid rights deal.
So it's here for the long term - unless some kind of renegotiation takes place.

Just persuade the TV companies that The Hundred refers to the first stage of Conservative leadership elections and televise that, with all the noise and live graphics.MikeL said:

The Hundred must be in trouble now. Runs at a loss, buggers up the season, hated by the fans, not backed by the board.
And still has to run for three more years because of the stupid rights deal.
So it's here for the long term - unless some kind of renegotiation takes place.

tells me tonight: “I personally know 76 names, there are a number consulting associations who will announce Sunday and Monday.”
Sources insist Johnson does have 100 MPs supporting him. If so, it’s going to the members next week.
Good luck to them if they’re so convinced by Boris. I’ll be relishing them during the inevitable Boris scandal stage0 -
What are consulting associations? Duddridge needs to STFU no ones interested in hearing anymore garbage spin on Bozos stalling campaign .rottenborough said:Christopher Hope📝

For clarity, which Team Johnson treasure above all else, the actual number of declared supporters according to our list is 54

Re Hundred...the reality is you can't have the T20 Blast and The Hundred. Its one or the other. The fact the rest of the world plays T20 should be the hint.0

It happens with charismatic populists the world over, in fact it seems to be a feature. Often they spend time in court or even jail before returning to power.Razedabode said:
The fact Boris thinks he can waltz back in, disgraced, is enough of an indication that the Conservative Party is buggered. Those MPs that continue to back him are utterly shamefulScott_xP said:...
Lula could do it this month. Berlusconi was a past master. Trump will try his hardest. Netanyahu did it multiple times. Mitterand, Chirac and Sarkozy all managed to combine legal shenanigans with high office. The Marcoses jnr are back in the Philippines, Eva Peron was adored or so Lloyd Webber has us. believe. And so on. Johnson is of that species.
