Well snobs like you will at least be grateful to know that if the poor working class all go back to Labour now Brexit is done and they are eating at foodbanks, while the £730 million net worth Sunaks are at No 10 it may be safe to tell ones posh rich friends you are voting Tory again for the first time since Cameron
You're not a Tory, you're a socialist with your politics of envy post.
No. Like you I voted for Cameron too with the posh snobs, just unlike you I also voted for Boris with the working class oiks too
And the three of us are reunited in perfect harmony by supporting Rishi.
Exclusive: Outspoken critic of Hundred lands ECB chief executive job
Former tank commander has been in charge of Somerset and Surrey, and was a vocal opponent of The Hundred
The England and Wales Cricket Board are set to announce Richard Gould, an outspoken critic of the Hundred, as their new chief executive.
Gould, who is currently CEO at Championship football club Bristol City, has beaten Tim Bostock, the boss at Durham, to the job after a final round of interviews on Wednesday.
The ECB Board are understood to have met on Friday and Gould’s appointment will be confirmed in the coming days.
The appointment of Gould, a traditionalist who has spoken publicly against the Hundred, will please county fans, but there will be some ECB employees who greet it with trepidation at a time of great flux in the game both domestically and globally.
While Gould, 52, currently works in football, he has spent much of his working life in county cricket. The former tank commander was chief executive at Somerset between 2005 and 2011, then Surrey from 2011 and 2021. He left Surrey to return to Bristol City, where he had a long history; his father Bobby played for the club, and he worked there as a younger man.
I actually think it is a hugely positive thing that a non-white or a woman being elected to some of the highest offices in the land doesn't actually really get much press focusing upon that these days.
I'm in a few Tory association WhatsApp groups, some Red Wall.
All the bile raised towards Sunak is all to do with the betrayal of Boris Johnson, not his skin colour.
We had four non white people in a row as Chancellor, skin colour hardly mentioned, all the focus was on policies.
I couldn't give a toss about his skin colour.
I support Sunak because he's by far the best candidate.
We need to get beyond this.
You mean the least worst candidate.
You equivocated during the last contest, quite rightly, because Rishi is significantly flawed.
Nevertheless we must wish him well, and to come to power for Diwali is surely auspicious.

Allow me to say: I bung them 50 notes a month plus reclaimed tax. Anyone who isn't doing so but can afford to needs to ask themselves: am I comfortable with being even more of a c--- than @Ishmael_Z ?

They won't kill the hundred....its ECB plan to sell it to venture capitalists. They can't do that with T20 as they don't own the "franchises". It would be a huge financial loss if they just ditched it now, which they can't afford.

It's rather useful for them to have cash to be able to buy. (a), they can do it in bulk as opposed to folk donating piecemeal at normal supermarket prices. (b) they can fill gaps such as e.g. toothpaste - or e.g. buy the fuel to run their collection/delivery van. and (c) as you say, tax is reclaimable.

Which is why we're having lunch at that well known working men's restaurant, Claridge's on Tuesday.
If Sunak does become Prime Minister I'm really looking forward to the lefties moaning that Sunak really doesn't count as an ethnic minority.
Wrong type of darkie/superficially brown.
Will he get the all important Rupa Huq seal of authenticity?
I would have thought she'd hate him given he's a Hindu.
Wouldn't that make him also the first PM to avow a religion other than Christianity?
Indeed but Sunak went to Winchester, founded by the Bishop of Winchester and is more of a traditional Tory in background than Truss was
To be a little more specific, it was founded by the 48th Bishop of Winchester. Not by Tim Dakin or whoever his successor is now he's been fired.
There are 47 known BoWs before Willie Wykeham? Are you sure?
No, because it's very uncertain whether some of them were Bishop or not, and also whether you count the bishops of Dorchester. But it had been going for over 700 years at that point, so it was at around the halfway stage of its existence. 47 doesn't seem far out.
Wow.
Dorchester Dorset or Dorchester Oxon?
There are some corkers of names amongst the Bishops of Winchester. I like Hunfrith and St Alphege the Bald.

By propitious fate, TSE are having one of regular working man’s lunches - arranged weeks ago - on Tuesday. It promises to be mildly raucous, either in despair, but now more likely a joyous celebration of a new era of comity, peace and justice. Pity about the austerity, pain and general suffering.

A tip. If you do chuck owt into a foodbank basket, don't go for the obvious. Sauces and spices are great ones to give. Most have enough pasta and tomatoes. A bit of salt and pepper, or herbs, or ketchup, mustard or mayonnaise makes all the difference to people's food.

I expect polling to return to the status Truss ante under Sunak.
I think it gets under 20 lead but higher than pre Truss as permanent damage has been done. 10 will be low end/opinium with the average mid high teens imo
Having said that JL Partners...... Voting intentions conducted by @JLPartnersPolls for Labour against every possible Tory leader…
Current: 🌹LAB: 51% 🌳CON: 25%
Johnson: 🌹LAB: 46% 🌳CON: 36%
Sunak: 🌹LAB: 46% 🌳CON: 35%
Mordaunt: 🌹LAB: 50% 🌳CON: 28% (Caveat in that she’s widely unknown)
So Boris does fractionally better than Rishi there then, though both do miles better against Labour than Truss does or Mordaunt would
If the Tories manage 35 and certainly 36 in a GE i see no chance of a Lab Majority
The Tories polled a fair bit higher than that in both 1945 and 1966!
Yes but im assuming LDs get 10 to 14%, SNP 3 or 4%, Greens at least 3%, that leaves Labour on max 45ish and probably ca 41%, HP territory, very slim majority upper end.
Having said that Con 35 is hopeful imo unless things stabilise and are not as bad as feared
The danger for the Conservative Party, under your scenario, is massive tactical voting. Don't forget 2005, when the Labour Party led the Conservatives by just three points, and yet got a 66 seat majority.
1997 is a good example. I know plenty of Lib Dems who were actively involved in the 1997 election who are utterly incredulous on being informed that the Lib Dem vote share FELL in 1997 whilst they celebrated 28 net gains, and have to be shown the figures.
When people decide it's a change election, it can be really quite brutal.
A strange phenomenon. Voters seem to get what they want though the mechanics of how they manage to achieve it is a mystery

The Trussell Trust is a pretty good charity.
Ours is an independent one, as it happens, but that's not to decry the TT at all.
Hard to see what sort of agreement could be reached .

Indeed. The Graun link I posted below has some more useful ideas which woiuld never have occurred to me.
👀👀 Boris Johnson's campaign has "over 100 names" Tory MP @Bren4Bassetlaw tells @StephenNolan on @bbc5live. "It is significantly more than have been reported. By midday it had hit 100."

Sure: but cash money to e.g. the Trussell Trust beats that for all sorts of reasons.
Indeed it does. I was merely suggesting what we found useful at our foodbank, for those who don't/can't be as routinely generous as you and Mr Pointer, but still want to help. Toothbrushes are good too.
This is why I think whoever wins the contest will lead the Tories to an epochal defeat. The economy is in a very bad place.
We shouldn’t let this be buried by other news today. Foodbank charity Trussell Trust says that the need for foodbanks has outstripped donations for the first time. It has distributed 46% more emergency food parcels in August and September than at the same time in 2021.
They spoke to some people on radio 4 recently who said that they always used to donate to food banks, but now they were needing to use them, so unless other people have donated more it's hard to see how donations could not have fallen.
'Most food banks report clients are increasingly asking for food that requires no cooking. For some, it’s about saving energy, but some don’t have access to cooking facilities or even a kettle. Pots of instant noodles or porridge that just need hot water are useful. [... "]We’d give some tuna, so you can just open that, stick it on some bread and eat it. It’s really minimal stuff.” Neilly keeps a stock of tinned sweetcorn, which can be eaten cold.
The Trussell Trust is a pretty good charity.
Ours is an independent one, as it happens, but that's not to decry the TT at all.
If you have a local food bank you know and trust, then that’s as good as anything.
The fact Boris thinks he can waltz back in, disgraced, is enough of an indication that the Conservative Party is buggered. Those MPs that continue to back him are utterly shameful

And you and I are the most working class oiks to have graced PB.
Which is why we're having lunch at that well known working men's restaurant, Claridge's on Tuesday.
That reminds me, I always regret not trying this preserved working men's restaurant in Copenhagen when i was on a conference there:

Just persuade the TV companies that The Hundred refers to the first stage of Conservative leadership elections and televise that, with all the noise and live graphics.

What are consulting associations? Duddridge needs to STFU no ones interested in hearing anymore garbage spin on Bozos stalling campaign .

Bog standard Soviet 1950s maid of all work. They had one visit Old WArden airfield Shuttleworth displays ca. 1990 ISTR. Massive thing. Bigger wingspan than a Learjet. A Sopwith Camel it ain't.
Re Hundred...the reality is you can't have the T20 Blast and The Hundred. Its one or the other. The fact the rest of the world plays T20 should be the hint.

It happens with charismatic populists the world over, in fact it seems to be a feature. Often they spend time in court or even jail before returning to power.
Lula could do it this month. Berlusconi was a past master. Trump will try his hardest. Netanyahu did it multiple times. Mitterand, Chirac and Sarkozy all managed to combine legal shenanigans with high office. The Marcoses jnr are back in the Philippines, Eva Peron was adored or so Lloyd Webber has us. believe. And so on. Johnson is of that species.

He means there are a number of MPs in his ‘100’ who’ve said “awfully sorry, Dudders old chap, can’t commit, as I must consult the old association, don’t you know ?”

The Hundred must be in trouble now. Runs at a loss, buggers up the season, hated by the fans, not backed by the board.
And still has to run for three more years because of the stupid rights deal.
Sadly underwhelmed by their last Glasto set though.
What a difference a year makes, eh?

As you say, buying at retail prices and chucking it in the collecting box at Tesco on the way out, is admirable but cost ineffective.
