At the start of the week I suggested that Starmer was a good bet to become the next PM. My reasoning was Johnson would last to the general election when the easier seat target that Labour will have would give the LAB leader a chance of becoming PM though probably not with a majority of MPs.

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong

Second... The new Telegraph revelations pile the pressure on, but will they make it easier for Johnson to cast this as a civil service problem as he was absent for this new party?

No, I think he'll be given an exit route in May and the new leader installed in September for the conference set piece.

For Boris to go, first there actually needs to probably be a photo of his partying in the lockdown. Second, there needs to be a consistent set of polling showing a Sunak led Tory party at least clearly ahead of Starmer Labour.

At the moment neither apply. Even if there is a VONC of Tory MPs I think Boris wins it as I said it this morning about 55% to 45%
  • Called this weeks ago, that culture of office drinking egged on by Boris as the chaps and chapettes were working bloody hard.

    Something about

    The Prime Minister Boris
    Johnson Portrait

sounds a bit dirty to me.

I probably need to get out more
  • The Telegraph piling on, you know Boris is toast.
  • Nobody wants to be a new Con leader in time to experience a shellacking in May's elections.

So Boris Johnson is here to stay for the short term.

Yep. We are being set up for a report that says it was a cross whitehall culture of lads drinking etc etc and Johnson was unaware and it was down to senior civil service to police and they didn't and so a few heads will roll.

    Pass the sick bucket.
  • Plus The Times are reporting Gray is going to clear him.

Announce the end of plan B next week and everyone will think how awesome Boris Johnson is, just in time for the focus to shift from Covid/Omicron to the cost of living crisis and the tax increases.
  • But memes like this might end Boris Johnson, but I think Boris Johnson is the new Gordon Brown, will limp until the electorate have their say.

  • Am seriously pissed - and NOT in the standard PB sense!

Because the Powers-That-Be throttled the previous thread, just after I posted (what IMHO is) a really funny joke!!

Yep. Speaks to a toxic work culture.
Doubtless those who also worked bloody hard but fancied seeing their families, watching the telly or having an early night, didn't get any advancement.

    That's quite a plausible theory

I have a few friends in their fifties who have high libidos but their post menopausal wives are no longer, ah, putting out. They aren't used to womanising (they have forgotten how to seduce or flirt) and whoring is too weird, strange or immoral for them

Their decline is absolutely obvious. Lack of sex has turned them into sad mumbling hobos, a bit like Boris right now

Never mind getting rid of Johnson, the entire government needs to go. Just the most stark example imaginable of a government believing itself to be immune from the rules it applied to others. The call now must be not merely for Johnson's resignation but for a general election.

Passing thought I had the other day, his unwanted bastard rate is off the scale high. I mean, in the contexts I've had sex in the past n decades, it's almost always been reasonably predictable in advance to at least one party that sex would occur and that contraception was desirable. With Boris, not so much

Actually the zoom quiz yes. They were working in small teams at the time for covid reasons and were in these small teams for the quiz and only a small number were in the offices at the time, most connected from home. Hence why it was run on zoom.

Viagra (et al) solves most of these

I think your first theory is better. He's Not Getting Any. For an alpha male used to a constant supply of *poontang*, that will be quite the challenge. Plus, it is well known that fathers of new-borns suffer a pretty calamitous drop in testosterone levels (probably an evolutionary device to make them stay home and look after the baby instead of hunting for new mapatasi); in younger men the testosterone levels bounce back fairly quickly, but with a man in his late 50s?

A drop in testosterone means a drop in almost everything a prime minister needs: decisiveness, ruthlessness, strategic thinking, basic energy

Add in Long Covid: et voila

  • Nobody wants to be a new Con leader in time to experience a shellacking in May's elections.

So Boris Johnson is here to stay for the short term.

Will the Tories do that badly in May's elections? I can see some very bad vote shares in northern metropolitan boroughs (e.g. worst ever vote share in Trafford) but I'm not sure they'll lose many seats and be able to spin a success if they hold their key flagship London councils such as Barnet, Wandsworth and Westminster. Sir NorfolkPassmore's prediction that the Tories will only lose 120 seats overall earlier might well be correct.

The other thing, Boris Johnson is 57, he might start developing 'performance issues', apparently that messes with a man's mind.

You do know that women can be decisiveness, ruthless, strategic, and energetic, with much lower testosterone levels than men, right?
    Sure

But I am right about testosterone and new fathers

"Humans are probably the only species on Earth who nurture their young for 20 years or more. For men in particular, the intensive demands of parenting can come as such a shock that a built-in biological mechanism has evolved to help cope with the change. A new study shows that becoming a father leads to a sharp decline in testosterone, suggesting that although high levels of the hormone may help men win a mate, testosterone-fueled traits such as aggression and competition are less useful when it comes to raising children."

Nobody wants to be a new Con leader in time to experience a shellacking in May's elections.

Yeah. Me too. Isn't the ideal set to crucify them.

The question is whether the electorate having their say at 'midterms' in May this year will be enough or he limps on until 2024.

I suggest marginal seat tories start looking at career options.

Third And we asked this morning 55 45 based on what. Support has been so muted even from ministers. And in a secret ballot he won’t even have all the verbal supporters turning up. No one does.

Second. In the real world, after the oxygen of publicity of a winning campaign, new pledges, promise of fresh start, a crown placed on head makes people seem special and different, the ancient fantasy polling you are quoting has long since been shredded. Truth is, in real world, act now new leader bounce times with May vote.

First. It really doesn’t need a photo now. There’s already enough damage for enough letters, he’s just conned everyone into waiting for the report, buying himself a bit of time like mister mcawber thinking something might turn up.

Depends if you think being PM is more like trying to get laid or more like trying to raise children.
I think we'd probably be better off if PMs tended towards treating it like the latter. other views are available.

I hear there is a pill for that these days. Given he has had two kids in 2 years, he definitely isnt firing blanks.
All that really proves is that someone isn't firing blanks.

What does it say about Boris Johnson that he employs people like this and never sacks them?

Yes. I know directors who have been sacked for fostering a ludicrous party team atmosphere where everyone dicks about bringing the company into disrepute.
An inquiry into lockdown parties in Downing Street, which could determine the fate of Boris Johnson, is expected to lay bare a “farcical” culture of drinking and impromptu socialising, with little oversight from senior officials, the Guardian understands.

Whitehall sources said the investigation, overseen by the senior civil servant Sue Gray, was also likely to unearth other drinks events across government buildings as special advisers and officials were encouraged to “come clean” about breaches of lockdown rules.

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/13/no-10-party-inquiry-will-reveal-farcical-culture-say-whitehall-sources
That strongly suggests that there were parties at other government departments and therefore other Ministers potentially in the frame.

Perhaps Ms Grey is asking the two questions I have been posting on here since yesterday -

    1. During lockdowns did they ever attend any social events or "work parties" or meetings at which alcoholic drinks were served at all at No 10 and, if so, how many and when?
    2. During lockdowns did they ever have any social events or "work parties" or meetings at which alcoholic drinks were served at their own departments and, if so, how many and when?
    3. Is this all a complete waste of time, given that the Government is clearly regarded as exempt from all the Covid shit it piled on (and continues to pile on) absolutely everyone else?

What I'd like to know, as someone who is generally supportive (from afar) of the Labour Party, is WHY did a Labour MP accept £420,000 in donations from someone connected with the Chinese Communist government?

Sounds like a hell of a lot of "research" to me.

It wasn't just Labour, it seems Christine Lee was very friendly with both May and Cameron, and also donated to Ed Davey.

Money buys access in our political system. I am sure she isn't the only foreign agent buying access either.
