What I don't like are pies where the upper crust comes off like a lid and you end up spooning out the filling. That spoils the pie for me.
I don't like a pie in a dish without pastry round the sides. Pie is not stew with a bit of puff pastry on top. The art of the pie is having the pastry cooked, and firm and slightly flavoured by the filling. Again I recommend a trip to Wigan for the pies.
I used to love seeing a queue outside a pie shop or bakery at lunch time - you were almost guaranteed a good pie.
Not a fashionable part of bath but people were queueing outside - always a good side and it was about 5 quid for a ham and coleslaw sandwich. Fresh bread masses of tasty ham, bit of salad and coleslaw. Lovely.
England seem to be batting at 2 per over. This target is achievable but looks like they're only playing for the draw.
Any idea how many overs remaining for today?
44 in theory. Would require a better over rate than we have seen most of the match though. This is all about survival. Without Stokes or Buttler a run chase was never on which is why Williamson was able to declare well before Root would have done.
Is there a category lower than 'crap' inadvertently copped from the image? Where else would Balti fit?
Balti would be authentic Indian though wouldn't it? (unlike Tikka Masala).
Authentic Birmingham, I'm afraid, Brisky!
Well in that case I don't think it deserves crap tier. I'd probably put it in mid or low tier.
Why though ? A good balti is a thing of joy. Not something to revolve just because it comes from one of our least trendy cities
I just not a big Balti fan - mid tier, along with Tikka Masala seems fair enough to me.
What is "authentic" food?
An interesting question....
A Thai friend, who runs several restaurants, think it is possible to be over-authentic. He came to dislike flying ingredients from Thailand etc. So he started a new restaurant where he cooks with local produced ingredients - but as a Thai person would cook them. He thinks that is more authentic.....
David Frost, Brexit minister, on withdrawal agreement:
“We underestimated the effect of the protocol on goods movements to Northern Ireland, with some suppliers in GB simply not sending their products because of the time-consuming paperwork required.”

Sounds a fair stance. Full disclosure - I am anti-foodie. Mainly because of one of their central believes that "it's cheaper to cook from scratch"

What is your objection to "it's cheaper to cook from scratch"?
It is generally true - you trade time for money, but get to control quality. So it is cheaper to cook from scratch but it takes more time.

It's true if you have a larder. Most people don't.
Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Adam Lyth were altogether too exciting.
If England don't even attempt to chase this total. It says a lot about the confidence in the England camp.
Nah. In Test Cricket 273 in that many overs is never on if the opposition don’t NEED to win and can shut up shop. Pushing for the win just invites a loss.

On topic, these are foods associated with the urban working classes in what's a dreary nautical climate. They are calorific, satisfying and very filling, and deliberately so.
It's probably one of the big reasons we have an obesity problem. Our climate hasn't changed much nor our culture - so we crave the comfort food - but our heavy manual working patterns very much have.

You mean have tons of spices et to hand? It is perfectly possible to cook from scratch without that. I did so for years - you have to select recipes by what you have/buy things that will go in other recipes. But I would generally buy all the ingredients for specific dishes.

Sorry. I am a zeaolot on this issue. Spices etc. are crucial. We're not going to agree.
George Galloway puff piece, but if he does get above 10% then that's more of less Labour done and dusted, surely followed by him getting IDS'd.
However, if Labour want a leader from outside of London it's extremely slim pickings.
Milliband and Cooper weren't the answer back then, and both are likely to lose their seats as things stand. Jarvis and Lavery (ew) have a similar problem.
They're basically left with Nandy, who is just about safe, RLB, Rayner, Phillips, Reeves, and errrr Luke Pollard?
Just remembered that Euro 2021 (2020?) starts soon and I am astonished to find that England are vying for favouritism at 5/1 with trad bookies and can be layed with BF at 6.6.
Have patriotic punters beaten the price down to a ridiculous level? Should England be so highly rated??
The French eat all.kill kinds of filthy food No.lessons from the frogs(legs) thank-you.
Our first cultural day out post lockdown. Music from the shows at Chichester Festival theatrel.
It pains me to say this but the French produce better food than us Brits.
They have the Michelin Guide, we have Wetherspoons, the deep fried Mars bar, and Little Chefs.
The latter are far superior.
Modern British cuisine in upmarket pubs and restaurants is up there with the best of France now, IMHO.
We've learned that cooking food well and enjoying it is no longer a sign of gallic effeteness or moral degeneracy.
The problem in France is that you never know what you're going to get. Loads of restaurants use pre-prepared frozen food because French regulations don't force restaurants to declare it like Italy. Over here they do too, but only in lower end establishments. In France the practice is rife and even highly rated places have been caught using "here's a frozen one from yesterday".

Yes - you're best laying England on betfair as a general rule for this reason.
SNP asks for more powers....in addition to the ones they currently aren't using:
“Your new role as Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice means you are responsible for introducing the 11 new benefit payments devolved by the UK Conservative Government through the 2016 Scotland Act.
“The SNP Government promised to set up those benefits by 2021. You have broken that promise.
“It will be 2024 before those powers are used for the first time – approaching a decade after they were devolved.
“If I was in your privileged position to deliver real change here right now, I would be embarrassed to pen a letter requesting more responsibility when your party and government have proven completely incapable of introducing new powers for Scotland.
I look forward to the Fat Crofter's next sermon on the iniquity of awarding contracts without tender (but only if its done by Toreeeeees):
More than half a billion pounds has been paid out by Scottish public bodies during the coronavirus crisis without any scrutiny.
Analysis by the Herald on Sunday of public contracts show more than 160 were awarded by the NHS, Scottish Government, local authorities, and others directly to suppliers without any competitive process.

Yes and No.
England did quite well at WC2018, plenty of England's matches (including all the group games) will be played at Wembley.
Normally I'd be laying England like there's no tomorrow, but I'm not going all out.
Londoners Under-30 are not well represented in the PB demographic but in case anyone on here is or knows a Londonder under 30, the Wilson Hospital in Mitcham is doing walk in vaccinations.

Losing Batley won't mean the end of SKS. He has a year to turn things around.

Remember its a global market these days, that is the price pretty much worldwide. Might be greater global familiarity with the Premier League creating a bias, but it is not down to patriotic money.

No, it's a clear lay.
Particularly since they have decided to politicise themselves by obstinately insisting they will take the knee throughout, thus dividing their fans.
Not sure telling people they are thick racists is going down well.
Southgate is just as much of an idiot today as he was in 1996 when he missed that penalty kick. He's made no attempt to understand it or modify his approach.
Saying, "(we) are ‘more determined than ever’ to take the knee" is a massive two-fingers up to those who don't like the politics of BLM, and he's effectively tarring them all as racists, so it's hardly surprising some fans boo even louder.

The food pyramid has a distinctly teenage fad feel about the bottom layer.
"Oh no ! Oh no ! There's a bone in it ! This kipper is a real fish! Run Away, Run Away!" In a Vivian voice.
Cultural appropriation generally is not a thing. More a symptom of attention-seeking.
