    The problem with "I'm sorry" is that it is taken as a full admission of guilt for anything vaguely related to the original complaint.

    Even if someone is genuinely sorry, they cannot take the risk.

    Now if "I'm sorry, I won't do it again" was followed by "You're forgiven" then we might see it being used a bit more.

    Bear in mind that "extreme pornography" is the legal term for porn that is illegal to possess in the UK which isn't child pornography. It's things like severe harm-causing BDSM, "snuff" and beastiality. Presumably we're not talking about anything that bad in this case or else collars would have been felt.

    Very good.

    I could have added many more e.g. Conclusions - Usually written before the inquiry has heard any evidence and the only parts of the report which are read by anyone other than the author.

    It’s a very specific legal definition, which considerably postdates the Damien Green raids from nearly a decade ago.

    Food in the US just tastes more chemically than it does in Europe. I'm sure it's one of the reasons American life expectancy is less than in the EU.

    On topic, maybe the last politician to resign as a matter of honour was Lord Carrington in 1982. He felt that the F.O. (N.B. means Foreign Office) had been poorly-prepared and that this had contributed to the Falklands invasion. I don't think the SoS for Defence resigned.

    Carrington's now 98 and has been in the Lords since 1945, i.e. a longer career than the queen. So maybe behaving honourably is good for your health and career.

    You missed out the phrase 'this must never happen again'?

    Meaning: 'this must never happen again in my term of office, at least not before I resign/retire and draw my gold-plated, index-linked, final salary pension'.

    And this is why pretty much all treaties contain binding dispute resolution mechanisms. Don't honour our treaty agreements to the ITU: there's a binding mechanism to force us to change.

    We need to be realistic about this. The US uses ISDS tribunals, which tend to meet in secret and contain a majority of US judges, as their dispute resolution mechanism. And this is one of the reasons why they have so few free trade agreements. (Plus they've tended to write in a requirement that other countries keep their IP laws in lockstep with the US.)

    For these reasons, I would be very surprised if we entered into an FTA with the US any time soon. Our priority must be in replicating the EU's existing agreements with the US, that cover mutual recognition of standards and double taxation. On the tax side, without these agreements being replicated, there either has to be (a) an increase in UK executive power to allow HMRC to ignore existing laws regarding third parties, or (b) real issues for firms that do business in both the US and the UK.

    The problem is that once you through everything up in the air, you reopen all the politically difficult compromises that have taken years to become established. Even replicating exiting agreements becomes problematic even on our side, let alone a third party that has little interest in facilitating an orderly Brexit.

    As a very new police officer in Edinburgh in the 1960's I was shown extreme porn that had been confiscated included animal and cats and I cannot say how shocked and disgusted I was.

    I do believe the police officers involved in investigating illegal and child abuse porn must have a switch that enables them to detach themselves from what they are looking at.

    Not a job most would want to do

    Sources say the “disturbing material” allegedly found on Mr Green’s computer was referred by cops to then Director of Public Prosecutions Sir Keir Starmer.

    He ruled it was not criminal and no further action was taken.
