TSE, I'm in your neck of the woods November 15th for Depeche. I was going to ask you for a recommendation for a cheapish hotel near the MEN, but a quick google throws up a plethora of suitable rooms.
I'm going to that gig as well.

Near to the MEN I'd recommend the Crowne Plaza.

About 15 mins walk away I'd recommend the Ibis on Portland Street if you want cheap and good.

There's a premier inn on Portland street as well.

And a Novotel next door on Dickinson street.

You make the assumption that they bother to read the byelection rules (they haven't) and they assume South Shields has local elections this year (it doesn't).

Its easy to work out why the articles are wrong when you remember that journalists don't have time to research facts nowadays.

People are huddling together in the public parks, standing or sitting in small silent groups and sharing their newspaper copies. The front pages of the Daily Mail and Telegraph are being clasped to their breasts.

I haven't seen anything like it since the first week of September 1997.

    The country's heart is bleeding.

Thatcher won big majorities while winning barely any seats in big urban areas in the north. What she DID win was suburban northern marginals like Tynemouth and Bury, and it is there the Tories need to win to get a majority!

    No, tim.

The Indie speculates on a full range of sources from Shapps to the Tory Press, but manages in the process to cover every allegation in full.

It is all part of the Indie using the methods of tabloid journalists whilst still trying to pretend it remains a broadsheet.

Perhaps Umunna is behind the stories?

It would be a clever way of getting yourself noticed just before the funeral invitations are sent out. If the real Obama can't attend why not the British version?

    What a lovely gesture

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2308142/War-veteran-given-heros-send-hundreds-strangers-turn-funeral-following-email-care-home.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

A war veteran who died with just a handful of relatives to mourn him has been given a hero's funeral after a care home manager sent out a hopeful email which went global.

About 500 people attended the funeral today of ex-Royal Marine Albert Vaughan who died on his 89th birthday at a Staffordshire nursing home last month.

Standard bearers and members of the public lined the streets as Mr Vaughan's coffin was taken to St Editha's Church, in Tamworth.

It comes after staff at Marmion Nursing Home in the town said they only knew a handful of relatives who could attend - so manager Chris Homer sent a speculative email to the National Ex-Services Association explaining what had happened.

Within hours people across the planet had responded - from as far away as Australia, India and Dubai.

Mr Vaughan had spent the last 21 years of his life at the nursing home and died of pneumonia just two hours after his birthday.

Which I did on many occasions during the debates over Lansleys reorganisation, it's all there in a Kings Fund report on how the NHS is under managed , perhaps Seths cousin can dig out the archive.

Nigel is sadly not bright enough to bother with, hopefully he'll improve his input to a level that is worth bothering with but I feel that to reply now would be to stunt any potential growth.

Every time you slate Gove or the NHS I remind you how piss poor education and the NHS are currently under Labour in Wales. You are not honest enough to admit the truth. Your input is nothing but lies, smearing and sneering.

I don't profess to be bright, but I am honest, truthful and not pathetically tribal.

I actually feel sorry for sad people like you, so desperate to toe the party line that not a single original thought enters your head.

Its a great counterintuitive that politicians claim success by reducing management in the NHS.
Compared to the budget it's ridiculously undermanaged.

    You are the politician, tim.

Spending more on "doctors and nurses" is irrefutable as a policy.

On Labour's Virtual Phone Bank.Good response but by luck I contacted the brother of one of my old patients; He informed me his brother died aged 48 and that the benefit changes were driving him mad again and his carer, his mum,was also going mad.
These benefit changes are starting to really hurt people and I am grateful for my NHS treatment which enabled me to join with DPAC and protest at Atos office in Norwich every month.Bit wet today but good response from the public, except one shout from a car window of "cunts"which made me feel even more like I was doing the right thing-there is a lot of hate out there directed at disabled people. This is completely engineered by the British Establishment. They could not give ATOSs.
Bedroom Tax protest in the city centre tomorrow. This TAX must be AXED.
This retirement thing could catch on.

    Korea:

Reportedly the North Koreans have told Japan they'll be the first to be hit in a nuclear strike.

This of course assumes that the North Koreans have successfully weaponised a nuclear device on a missile, which is open to dispute.

You have to hand it to the regime of the Kims, they know how to act the head case and have the world jumping in response. Its when they start to forget its an act that you'll really have to worry. Its this thats worrying many.

The one unknown question is why the Chinese have significantly stepped up its forces on the North Korean border in the last 10 days. Political statement (and to who?), practical purpose or a bit of both? This remains inscrutable as many a Chinese politician. If you believe Western commentators the Chinese are deeply frustrated by the North Koreans but the Kims also represent the cold war Asian version of Cuba with a lot (but not all) strings leading to Beijing..but with a lot more threat.

Whatever the real Chinese position they are getting a lot of useful information on many levels right now watching how its opponents in the region are reacting.

In my experience, trauma, stroke or cardiac arrest victims need two things. Oxygen and diesel.
Oxygen for the obvious, and diesel for the ambulance to get them ASAP to the nearest, suitably equipped care centre- and that's not always the nearest A&E.

A question for the knowledgeable from the ignorant: it is apparently exceptionally difficult to create a nuclear weapon package that can fit on a missile - size, weight, and resilience are massive problems. Would not an easier attack be by transferring a weapon onto a ship, and taking it into a port - the soft underbelly? It would not even need to be offloaded.

The only advantages I can think of for missile delivery is that it would be an air rather than ground blast, meaning there would be more blast damage and (I think) less fallout. Secondly, a ship-based operation would require much time and planning in advance, whereas a missile can be launched either instantly or in a number of hours, depending on the type.

So why go to the bother and expense of missile delivery?

'Oxygen for the obvious, and diesel for the ambulance to get them ASAP to the nearest, suitably equipped care centre- and that's not always the nearest A&E'

    Spot on.

'Statistics show East of England Ambulance Service has missed targets for getting sufferers to stroke units for four consecutive months this year.
The service aims to transport 62% of patients to specialist units within an hour of a stroke but, on average, achieved just 49.3% from January to July.
Unfortunately, there is little that can be done regarding the effect of geography on transport times, with sometimes extended journey times to hospital in rural parts or where local district general hospitals have to be bypassed in preference for specialist centres further away.”
