To be honest, the UK is something of a semi-detached special case anyway. No other EU member has quite the same choices - except perhaps Germany - all almost all would have a far harder job leaving, particularly a Eurozone member.
I'm not convinced there is much the EU can do to harm our long-term prosperity anyway, but, even if I'm wrong, doing that wouldn't substitute for the hardthinking on - yet alone fix - the many real internal problems it has in facing up to its own future.
The response of the UK to every step forward in the EU for a couple of decades or more, certainly since Maastricht, has been to seek opt outs, special exemptions and limitations on what has been proposed. I think Tusk is sincerely sorry to see us go but he may be right that EU integration will be less complicated going forward.
The EU's problems aren't over. They will now shift to selling that integration to its remaining member states and their electorates, many of whom don't much like it either but were happy for the UK to act as the lighting rod for federalist opposition up until now.0 -

What's the French? Manquer transposes the normal object/subject relationship when used to express regret over an absence. Looks like someone has realised that moving a plant from Southampton to Turkey might not have been the brightest of ideas for transits.
U.S. carmaker Ford (F.N) said on Wednesday that Britain must secure a Brexit deal which includes full tariff-free access to the entire customs union of European countries, not just the 27 other members of the European Union.
Ford builds vans in Turkey, which is not part of the EU but is in the EU customs union.
"Any deal must include securing tariff-free trade with the wider Customs Union and not just the EU27, whilst retaining access to the best talent and resources," a spokesman said ahead of the formal triggering of divorce talks.0 -
