Johnson should do the interview. If he doesn't, that'll be a story that runs and runs to Corbyn's advantage. If he does, he can't do worse than Corbyn did.
Johnson is a self-interested liar and a political coward. Of course he’ll run away from Andrew Neil if he can. Avoiding detailed scrutiny is what he’s done his entire political life.

The big difference is that Boris will still be appearing in a head to head with Corbyn, I think skipping that would cut through to the public, but not sure missing an interview with Andrew Neil would. Most people probably don't know who he is.
Johnson needs to find a really good reason not to do the Neil interview otherwise even if he becomes PM he would forever be accused of being weak in stressful moments.
He would be a lame duck premier before he has even started.

Curse of the new thread! Well, that was a fun and fascinating day. Drove Carrie Symonds and Dilyn about the South Hams. They had a drink with half a dozen canvassers and the candidate. Some fascinating bits of gossip that would be very indiscreet to share. However, people might like to know that Dilyn loves to shred paper into tiny bits. And he gets given Dominic Cummins' hate mail to savage!

Yup. Although he might do as badly.
Johnson could be even worse than Corbyn! Hard act to follow, granted, but Boris has it in him to implode. He is absolutely right to tell the BBC to get stuffed. He can argue that what he views as his sublime performance on QT and his victory over Corbyn during the ITV interview means he has nothing more to prove, and wasn't Corbyn a disaster at the hands of Neil.

If he's asked about Islamophobia he can be humble and apologise, allowing the conversation to move on. He also won't be trying to argue that we can nationalise utilities without increasing the national debt. It's difficult to see how he'll do as badly.
Buffoon used to get Paxo diverted and all jolly together but Neil is another level... would have thought better to get it over with rather than too close to the 12th.
Boris Johnson has no upside in doing this. He can fairly point to the fact that he’s doing debates. And the chances of him coming through unscathed from an Andrew Neil interview where the interviewer did not pull his punches are low.
The BBC have questions to answer. It appears that they actively misled Labour. That’s unforgivable if true.

What, all of it? How long does it take to shred it all? Five years a day?

Carrie's Twitter account is superb if one likes looking at photos of cute dogs. Dilyn's been out canvassing the length and breadth of the country.

Didn't they meet voters? Isn't that the point of campaigning?
The Jo Swinson debate with AN has not yet been confirmed either, I am led to believe....
I’d be disappointed if she didn’t do it.
Bizarre that Corbyn did it before confirmation that two other leaders were locked into the schedules. I bet his people have suffered a hard stare for that.

Difficult one, really you want them all turning up together to do their interviews one after the other. If you go first, there's always the danger the others won't turn up.

They also failed to invite Jo Swinson to the debate on 6th December. Am I the only one that thinks this is wrong?

Yes, they met voters. They were fine. A bit softball, considering we were in a rather beautful bit of the constituency and not amidst the social housing. It's not always so. Carrie did tell me that some people have said very rude things to her about Boris. Before they know who she is....

The BBC this election have been lamentable in their treatment of Johnson, not only has he been given a free ride at every opportunity, but reports have been doctored (big style) in his favour. Mind you the BBC shafting Corbyn is something to savour, even if Johnson is the beneficiary.
There will be no traction with the public on Boris not being able to schedule in an interview...if he'd skipped the debates then yes, it would have been a story.
As it is there is just fury from the left that their man has been humiliated and their hopes of it being repeated on the PM have been dashed.

No, but they might have a rethink when it looks like Boris is a no-show.

The obvious reason for Boris skipping AN is the difficulty fitting it in between the visits to the mistresses and the STD clinic. I was amazed to see him down in Cornwall today and can only suggest the media check on who was at their holiday home in Rock.
The dynamics couldn't be more different to May in '17. Boris Johnson has nothing to gain by doing Andrew Neil most of the people who would change their mind have already made their mind up.
Andrew Neil establishing that Barry Gardiner and Jeremy Corbyn are duplicitous liars re the HNS claims this morning. Andrew Neil points out these minutes are no more than scoping talks.

Wonder if some of his potential successors implied it would be a great idea to be grilled by Andrew Neil.

She should have told David Cameron who she is before talking to him.
Why the hell don't all of these people tweeting about the YouGov MRP just shut the hell up for three hours and let YouGov reveal their findings themselves?

Rob Burley currently drafting his sanctimonious "Oh we just made another error that could have happened to anyone that just so happened to be beneficial for the Conservatives again" tweet even as we speak.

Probably.
Well you wouldn’t even allow lib dems to stand unless it was expressly forbidden to vote for them. I do have a historical story about a boat trip with David steel and Shirley Williams along the Thames a long time ago, no scandal but Shirley was a genuine warm human being.

Bollocks. How can he expect to be prime minister if he can't answer a few questions from a journalist? The sense of entitlement is disgusting. Not to mention the cowardice.

I doubt all the journos present have managed to keep their gobs shut. I have to say I am surprised YouGov were ok with people taking photos of the slides.

Barry Gardiner is one of the few politicians that can make Boris Johnson look like a paragon of honesty.

Grilled? He was grilled, griddled, barbequed, roasted, boiled, broiled, sautéd, fricasseed. And then flambéed.
Wow. This is pretty bad tempered. Both Gardiner and Neil accusing each other of lying.
Gardener still not answering the question. I'm beginning to believe that none of the front line Labour MPs are up to the job... When is Andrew Neill interviewing Diane Abbott?

Conned and then humiliated yes but an absolute disgrace as is leaders not turning up to the debates and sending substitutes. Just empty podium them and let those willing to debate with everybody in public get on with it. It a disgraceful affront to democracy and shows the degree of contempt that corbyn and Johnson have of the electorate.
Barry Gardiner is good. Years of theological debate are perfect for these interviews. He has Andrew Neil agreeing that pharma prices are an inevitable part of a US trade deal!

Beginning to believe.....I think that has been obvious for years. The only one who is, is McDonnell and he is an entryist terrorist supporting Marxist.

No - Neil said the Americans would raise pharmaceutical access as part of a free trade deal. He is now beating up Buckland as well, pointing out that in fact this shows it was discussed.

I heard that someone told Carrie that he “wasn’t in love with Boris” to which she replied “well that’s a relief” 😂

Personally I have no interest in such polls and certainly won't be on here posting about it.
We all know that there is only one poll which counts and that of course is that conducted by Mr Curtice on 12 December!
PS what time is it out tonight?
