Johnson should do the interview. If he doesn't, that'll be a story that runs and runs to Corbyn's advantage. If he does, he can't do worse than Corbyn did.
  • Johnson is a self-interested liar and a political coward. Of course he’ll run away from Andrew Neil if he can. Avoiding detailed scrutiny is what he’s done his entire political life.

The big difference is that Boris will still be appearing in a head to head with Corbyn, I think skipping that would cut through to the public, but not sure missing an interview with Andrew Neil would. Most people probably don't know who he is.
  • Johnson needs to find a really good reason not to do the Neil interview otherwise even if he becomes PM he would forever be accused of being weak in stressful moments.

He would be a lame duck premier before he has even started.

Another problem for Johnson is that as he prevaricates, time ticks away. If it went badly, it'd be much closer in voters' minds on election day.

Well, that was a fun and fascinating day. Drove Carrie Symonds and Dilyn about the South Hams. They had a drink with half a dozen canvassers and the candidate. Some fascinating bits of gossip that would be very indiscreet to share.

Johnson could be even worse than Corbyn! Hard act to follow, granted, but Boris has it in him to implode.
He is absolutely right to tell the BBC to get stuffed. He can argue that what he views as his sublime performance on QT and his victory over Corbyn during the ITV interview means he has nothing more to prove, and wasn't Corbyn a disaster at the hands of Neil.

If he's asked about Islamophobia he can be humble and apologise, allowing the conversation to move on. He also won't be trying to argue that we can nationalise utilities without increasing the national debt. It's difficult to see how he'll do as badly.

I’d be disappointed if she didn’t do it.
  • Boris Johnson has no upside in doing this. He can fairly point to the fact that he’s doing debates. And the chances of him coming through unscathed from an Andrew Neil interview where the interviewer did not pull his punches are low.

Difficult one, really you want them all turning up together to do their interviews one after the other. If you go first, there's always the danger the others won't turn up.

The BBC this election have been lamentable in their treatment of Johnson, not only has he been given a free ride at every opportunity, but reports have been doctored (big style) in his favour.
Mind you the BBC shafting Corbyn is something to savour, even if Johnson is the beneficiary.

The obvious reason for Boris skipping AN is the difficulty fitting it in between the visits to the mistresses and the STD clinic. I was amazed to see him down in Cornwall today and can only suggest the media check on who was at their holiday home in Rock.

Conned and then humiliated yes but an absolute disgrace as is leaders not turning up to the debates and sending substitutes. Just empty podium them and let those willing to debate with everybody in public get on with it. It a disgraceful affront to democracy and shows the degree of contempt that corbyn and Johnson have of the electorate.

When is Andrew Neill interviewing Diane Abbott?
Beginning to believe.....I think that has been obvious for years. The only one who is, is McDonnell and he is an entryist terrorist supporting Marxist.

Barry Gardiner is good. Years of theological debate are perfect for these interviews. He has Andrew Neil agreeing that pharma prices are an inevitable part of a US trade deal!

No - Neil said the Americans would raise pharmaceutical access as part of a free trade deal.
He is now beating up Buckland as well, pointing out that in fact this shows it was discussed.

    Curse of the new thread!
Well, that was a fun and fascinating day. Drove Carrie Symonds and Dilyn about the South Hams. They had a drink with half a dozen canvassers and the candidate. Some fascinating bits of gossip that would be very indiscreet to share.
However, people might like to know that Dilyn loves to shred paper into tiny bits. And he gets given Dominic Cummins' hate mail to savage!

Didn't they meet voters? Isn't that the point of campaigning?
Yes, they met voters. They were fine. A bit softball, considering we were in a rather beautful bit of the constituency and not amidst the social housing.
It's not always so. Carrie did tell me that some people have said very rude things to her about Boris. Before they know who she is....
I heard that someone told Carrie that he “wasn’t in love with Boris” to which she replied “well that’s a relief” 😂

    Same thing.

The Jo Swinson debate with AN has not yet been confirmed either, I am led to believe....

I think Jo is having her hair done that night!
I know some PBers who would approve of that!
