God I miss Spitting Image. That program had real genius and stung. Now we have arseholes sitting on a "quiz" no one gives a damn about.
The main writing credit there is for Ian Hislop.
Yes I noticed that but he has got a bit too smug and comfortable too. Our political class are absurd, vain, ignorant, incompetent and egotistical. They could really do with something like Spitting Image taking them down a peg or 6.
I’ll never forgive Hislop for supporting Andrew Wakefield.
He’s ruined the lives of so many.
It was the lack of apology or contrition that was the main thing.
If May lost the Brexit vote and told HMQ her govt was resigning, what would Corbyn do? As things stand he can't get any kind of legislative programme passed. I assume he'd immediately call a general election in order to get the approx 15 more MPs he needs to be able to form a de facto coalition government that would support some of his programme.
I see UC is finally blowing up. How is this a surprise to people like Johnny Mercer or indeed, by the sound of it the Cabinet (who Ester McVey had to brief this week)?
I've been warning about the £2K or so many couples and lone parents would lose for months on here.
I do sometimes really wonder what politicians actually do all day, when they don't know basic policy implications like this.
"But it was made significantly less generous by former Chancellor George Osborne in his 2015 Budget, who raided it to pay for an increase in the personal allowance, the point at which people start paying income tax."
The stark statement to investors comes after the firm uncovered "significant, and potentially fraudulent, accounting irregularities".
My guess would be that the rapid expansion hasn't gone well and they have actually been losing shit tonne of money, like so many of these "premium" high street food outlets.

Did you put that down to an error-of-judgement or lost-the-plot anti-vaxing?
Error of judgement followed by massive pride failure with refusal to admit he was wrong when the huge and copious evidence that Wakefield was a fraud came to light.
Dodgy accounting seems to be the prevailing theory (backed up my PV press release). Heard rumours of embezzlement, but nothing firm on that. [can i get into trouble for posting that?]

For those whose German isn't up to it (and why not, we're all good Europeans, aren't we?):
CSU 32.9% (-14.8 on the previous Landtag election in 2013) Greens 18.5% (+9.9) AfD 12.8% (+12.8%) SPD 11.0% (-9.6%) Free Voters 9.8% (+1.8%) FDP 5.9% (+2.6%)
CSU/SPD had 68% of the vote in 2013, now they have 44%. On these numbers the CSU majority will go but what replaces them? Could they ally with the FDP and the Free Voters to form a new administration?
Anyone who's lived in Kent will be familiar with Operation Stack, which turns part of the M20 into a lorry park whenever there's bad weather in the Channel or a strike in France. This planned "Operation Brock" (which I suspect is a portmanteau of "Brexit" and "Stack") will be Operation Stack on steroids.
A Labour "rebellion" voting for a TM deal will either be v small (Hoey et al) or very large and effectively a VONC in Corbyn, and may thus precipitate the split many expect.
Something in between strikes me as risky for those involved as it will be a small enough group to be deselection targets.
Those soft Remainers wanting to reclaim the Labour mantle could use the opportunity to secure a soft Brexit, undermine Corbyn as wanting a no deal/hard brexit, and start with a political clean sheet post-Brexit.
If I was wargaming getting rid of JC, this would be one of my key scenarios.
I can see its appeal to voters too. The Tories own Brexit (and to be fair the credit for delivering "victory" but like Churchill mightn't win the peace), and Labour is in thrall to the Trots - possibly fertile ground for a moderate post-Brexit party.
Fraud, by the sounds of it. They owe Inland Revenue over a million pounds.
I've spotted fraud myself (Cheques heading out to a company masquerading as fake suppliers), but the banks still reconciled... ! (Essentially the company just looked like it was doing less well than it actually was during the time of the fraud) Stock can be a bit of a nebulous concept, I'd love to know how the £28.8m cash and equivalents got through the audit though. Can't see any other way than faking the bank statements.

some polls have the FDP just about on the 5% threshold in Bavaria. If they fall below it there are few viable coalitions.

Indeed - the notion of the CSU not governing Bavaria is about as realistic as the Conservatives not running Surrey.

On the M26 news - TBH that is news. I knew that they were going to close J8-9 on the M20. Closing the M26 as well demonstrates just how bad this will get if Archer gets his way. How is it that "fake news" continues to be screamed despite the work having been started? News that the head of HMRC received death threats really drives home (not down the M26) point that hard core Brexiteers are morons.

There is a CDU/Grune coalition in Hesse which has gone full term. Obviously the CSU are a different beast, but not inconceivable.

I wonder if the CSU will do a deal with the AfD.
the SPD have been trying to get CDU\CSU to issue a statement to the effect they will never go in to coalition with the AfD
problem is the SPD tried the same with Die Linke and then found they couldnt form a coalition without them. So they promptly junked the promise and now sit in government in Berlin with the former communists,

The people in charge of these things are smart arses who try to be clever all the time but lack any kind of common sense. It is beyond belief that a male rapist is put in a female prison.

It doesn't work for bulky people with a lot of muscle rather than fat. At least that's what I've read.

I think that's used as an excuse by more people than it is true for. However I think my legs are unusually short for my height (31", just under 6'1 tall). Edit: It's also curious as to why the chart is the same for males and females, a woman at 20% bodyfat will look a hell of alot fitter/leaner than a man with the same.
God knows where we’d have been with these idiots in charge in 39.
It may be news to those of the younger generation used to the sanitised stories of derring-do that the world war 2 history has now become but the generation that actually lived through it took much the same view as these students. I grew up in the 1960s, just about everyone over 30 could remember the war but it was very rarely talked about. Few people attended remembrance services, I cannot recall any such services at school, most people saw the war as a terrible experience best left in the past. They would not have wanted to see today's over-hyped remembrance jamborees.

Yes, concern about the glorification of war on Remembrance day is nothing new. Remembrance poppies have become prolific in recent years, and are often seen all year round. It seems to have increased as living memory of the first war fades, and also the recent bloody wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

BMI is a reasonable measure on a population basis, but less useful on an individual basis for predicting risk.

Not in the case of either World War, unless we were prepared to acquiesce in Germany's war aims and leave our allies in the lurch.

No not "big implications". Engineers will examine, design fix, implement. During the fix/implement time, there will be a regime of more-frequent inspections, or replacements at shorter intervals than before, or a limit to 6G turns or something. Happens all the time.

Stock can be a bit of a nebulous concept, I'd love to know how the £28.8m cash and equivalents got through the audit though. Can't see any other way than faking the bank statements.

Why not just read it?
It would be quicker than repeatedly demonstrating your ignorance
problem is the SPD tried the same with Die Linke and then found they couldnt form a coalition without them. So they promptly junked the promise and now sit in government in Berlin with the former communists,
The people in charge of these things are smart arses who try to be clever all the time but lack any kind of common sense. It is beyond belief that a male rapist is put in a female prison.
Read it. You might learn something...
Oh wait, a Brexiteer? Never mind.
Unfortunately it does not bound into the 'so bad its good' category....its simply turgid and dull. Given the subject, quite appropriate I suppose.
Edit: It's also curious as to why the chart is the same for males and females, a woman at 20% bodyfat will look a hell of alot fitter/leaner than a man with the same.
I am happy to wear my red poppy for my grandfather and great uncle who fell in the Gallipolli campaign, and the centenary is undoubtably a major anniversary, but do feel that the best way to remember them is by ensuring no more similar stupidity.

I commend the waist height ratio. Your waist (at umbilical level) should be less than half height.
