It deserved no more. Let me know when maybe 100,000 Muslim girls are pimped, trafficked drugged, abused, murdered and raped underage by roving gangs of racist pedo white men and maybe I will entertain the slender possibility that The Egregious Meeks has a hint of a thesis, until that moment:

Two wrongs do not make a right. The actions of people like Mair - and the hatred that surrounds it - will do no good for those girls, or the other victims of abuse that you routinely ignore.

As has been obvious for years every UKIP supporter is racist.
Sorry, but that's rubbish. I don't agree with UKIP, and think Cameron was at least partially correct with his adage. But what you wrote does not help defeat the real racists, which are found in *all* parties.

So this is what is meant by 'whataboutery'? Girls should not be abused, whether by white or Muslim men. Jo Cox should not have been murdered. And one of the wordsmiths in our midst can only come up with "bollocks".

I don't disagree, but I think you should also mention the wider Islamophobia problem within the Conservative party, it's not just on the Leaver side.
David Cameron, Lynton Crosby et al. have plenty to answer for as well.
The leave campaign learned all they ever needed to from Dave's 2015 campaign. A simple transposition from Sir Lynton's take on the Scottish to AN Other-Foreigners straight out of Dave's own playbook to beat him at his own disgraceful game. This was probably the most satisfying aspect of the leave victory for me.
The problem is that anything to the right of Harriet Harman is branded "hard right".
Worried about Pakistani sex gangs appearing in multiple Northern towns? "hard right" Want to have sovereignty of your own country? "hard right" Concerned about mass immigration from the third world? "hard right"
Can add "bigoted" and "racist" to the list of words parroted by these out of touch morons.
Brexit has surely seen the relatively moderate part of Ukip support return to the Tories and indeed Labour in some parts of the UK. The rump that is left in Ukip and its splinter parties contain the true hardliners and cranks but numerically are they not much less of a threat than they ever have been? The best way to subdue the idiots is to ensure Brexit succeeds, something ultra remainers are conspicuously doing their best to make difficult.
Hmm. I doubt that anyone could disagree with much of the main thrust of the piece. However, I don't think this section sits comfortably:
"various prominent Leavers have accused the judiciary, the BBC, the civil service, the CBI, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the governor of the Bank of England and pretty well any other national institution that you can name of seeking to sabotage Brexit.
They have for two years fanned the flames of nativism and used the rhetoric of betrayal, treachery and quislings."
There undoubtedly have been attempts to either stop Brexit outright or to dilute it to such an extent that many would see it as not worth the name. Whether all those on the list deserve to be there is doubtful but some do. To imply that such criticisms are illegitimate and in part responsible for violence is to attempt to shut down a legitimate debate and argument.
Likewise, while I think that the use of the language of 'quislings' and 'treachery' is to be resisted in the context of Brexit, to add in 'betrayal' to the triad is wrong: that is an entirely fair criticism of those who would block Brexit, or those who promised it and would then deliver something much weaker.
Recently sat opposite this delightful looking old gent on the train. Must have been late 80s-90yrs. Started to read facist/far-right books/mags from his nap sack.
There does seem to be a bubbling undercurrent of far-right sentiment in the UK.

No, not even Jim Davidson's autobiography. Proper political pamphlet type stuff.

I don't follow Hopkins on twitter anymore. At first she was a funny trolling right-winger. Until it became clear she was just a racist and not very funny at all.
I'd hope it would be taken for granted that I condemn people who carry out assaults, send death threats or rape threats, or plot bomb attacks, in the name of right wing politics. Lock them up.
I don't, however, consider that I am responsible for their actions.
Perhaps it was ever somewhat thus, but hardly anyone will admit to being a racist nowadays. In fact such accusation tend to engender even stronger (if deranged) counter accusations.
'What, you're saying I'm a racist just because I have justified concerns about brown skinned Muslims flooding our country? YOU'RE the real racist, branding all old, puce faced blokes gammons!'
'What, you're saying I'm a Nazi just because I take part in torch lit parades and have swastika tatoos? YOU'RE the real Nazi, in cahoots with Soros who was definitely a member of the SS!'

If you don't "help to change the climate and eliminate this dangerous threat to our society that you have helped to create" then you are responsible.
Meeks says so.
And he's got a bloody big Brexenophobia bus that we all know he doesn't know how to park, so you should listen to him.
Yes, I get what your saying. We don't want these people either, do we? Bloody Australians!
I'd have no issue deporting Rolf.
Oh, I see, By "these people" you meant paedophiles, not Muslims! My mistake. But why would anyone claim it was racist not to want paedophiles in the country? Who is claiming this?

Indeed, that's just old fashioned beatings and mental abuse.
Apparently not wanting these people in the country is racist.
It is racist to pretend that it's only a problem with Muslims, particularly given the well-documented history of similar offences by clergy in the Anglican and Catholic churches.
But I thought that was not the main point of the thread header. The main point is how do we disagree about things like that? How do we ensure that people can say that it is racist without a fascist attacking them for daring to disagree?
The paper is explicit that this deal ‘would not allow the UK to accommodate a likely ask from the US in a future trade deal’ as the UK would be unable to recognise the US’s ‘array of standards’.
Brexiteers are taking this as Theresa May effectively ruling out a post-Brexit trade deal with the US just days before the US President arrives in this country.

The does seem to a bit of a career path for outspoken right-wingers.
You start as a mildly amusing gobshite, then proclaim yourself as an iconoclast and then after much ego stroking you start saying increasingly extreme things just to get a reaction. You end up a lonely troll ranting into cyberspace or fall into much darker things - I believe ultimately some people even end up in the Daily Mail or in the White House. It's horrifying.
There should be a charity dedicated to saving people from this descent into madness.
Off topic - does anyone know how long Novichok takes to degrade?
Yvette Cooper, the Labour chair of the home affairs committee, asks if the Russians have offered any cooperation. And does novichok degrade?
Javid says the UK has received no help from the Russians. If the Russians wanted to be helpful, they could say how they disposed of the nerve agent used to poison the Skripals.
He says, like all nerve agents, it will deteriorate over some time. But that can take months and months”. So this could be the exact same nerve agent used in March, because it would not have had time to deteriorate.

The racist bit is, of course, your singling out of Muslims who are guilty of such crimes for deportation (what about British Muslims?) while ignoring similar crimes by those of other religions or nationalities.

For the sake of balance, it should be noted that right wing politicians and voters have for years been on the receiving end of quite a bit of harassment and abuse. Back in the eighties, there were universities where it was virtually impossible for any Conservative MP to speak.

I didn't take that from the header at all. All I took was anyone who voted for Brexit is in the same circle of Meek's hell as Jo Cox's killer and should flagellate themselves until dead.
The inventor has claimed that it would not survive for 4 months unprotected in the environment - however, if it was in some sort of container (syringe?) it might survive longer...
A typically trenchant and thought-provoking piece from Antifrank for which, as always, many thanks.
I never thought of UKIP as a right-wing party - apart from their immigration stance, in a host of other areas, they seemed quite on the Left as regards spending public money.
Indeed, where is the Right now ? Economically, they are absent - the Conservatives used to be the party of low tax and the small state but that has all been thrown away by the interventionist tax-and-spend May and while Corbyn's economic idiocy may legitimise it somewhat, the truth is May and Hammond's economics and spending aren't far removed from Blair and Brown's and it seems we will all pay more tax to fund the NHS in the future.

Wouldn't they be better described as Pakistani? I don't know how strongly they identify as Muslims but it seems a rather different problem to that of the theologians.
I've been verbally abused by a group of white racists and by a group of black racists, on the same evening, for the 'crime' of going out with a black girl.
But I'm white and voted for Brexit so it probably doesn't count. In fact, I probably deserve it.

So equivalence, for the non-financial sector. Dear god help us.
It is the worst of everything, Theresa May is absolutely useless. Remainer Robbins has clearly led this up the garden path and is now delivering the worst possible deal to try and reverse Brexit. Time to get him out.
Within a few years it’ll be well if we’re in the customs union we might as join the single market.
Let's not get carried away. however, she is seeking to deliver pretty well a 52/48 proportional Brexit which seems fair to both sides. Maybe we could have a thread on the idea?
Within a few years it’ll be well if we’re in the customs union we might as join the single market.
Years? I give it weeks.
I didn’t want to upset our delicate Leavers.
Brilliant timing to do this just before the Trump visit. Telling him he's at the back of the queue will surely go down brilliantly with Leave voters who don't like to be bullied by the Americans.
