Adults who want to view pornographic websites will be able to buy a code at newsagents to prove they are over 18 when new age verification laws are introduced later this year.
A 16-digit code - or “porn pass” - will be one option available to the estimated 25 million Britons who regularly visit adult websites and so will be required to prove they are not under age.
The move, part of new legislation being drawn up, is an attempt by the Government to prevent children accessing obscene online material.

So another solution to which there isn't any real problem? Like ID cards?
You don't think children accessing online porn is an issue?
Of course that is desirable, and any halfway competent parent can filter their children's internet activity, but...what about the huge database that will be built up? What about tech savvy kids(most of them- and the ones that ain't tech savvy will know a kid who is). A simple VPN might get around it. Software like Kodi isn't going to be affected by the porn pass. Hell, my kids watch Premier League footie every weekend on the internet and their student house always host a Joshua boxing fight night. It is just window dressing.

All valid points but I took issue with your comment that this was "another solution to which there isn't any real problem". In fact it's probably an inadequate solution to a real problem. Suspect our views are similar tbh.

I agree FWIW. ISPs already have to ask whether you want to turn a child filter on (no child is going to be setting up the internet in their home). This just feels like more intrusion for the sake of intrusion.

Yep, I didn't articulate myself particularly well!

No worries - I was being a pedantic arse, as usual

I set mine up for my mum. She was 75 at the time, though.
"You’ve awakened a sleeping moose, Europe. Canada...a beautiful country steeped in a rich musical history that includes the likes of Adams, Bieber, Young, Bublé and Shatner… ‘And yet, we’ve been snubbed by that European singsong competition thing you guys lose your shit over."
Looking good? On the latest Gold Standard Survation poll in the unlikely event of another general election it would produce almost exactly the same result as last year. So a completely pointless election which would leave us right back at square one

Meaningless. A 'special' GE in 2018, along the lines of 'back me or sack me', 'who governs britain?', 'do you want the brexit vote to stand' etc etc would be completely unpredictable this far out.
I'm not saying it will happen, but as every day goes by, it looks more likely.

The Tory voteshare was almost exactly unchanged once the 2017 GE results came in from where it was in the polls just before May called the election.
Corbyn did squeeze left-wing voters from minor parties behind him but he has no more such voters to squeeze.
As I said it would be the most pointless general election in history, the voters would be bored stiff and in any case it will not happen as May now wants to cling on as long as possible without consulting the voters again and Tory MPs and members and the SNP have no interest in one either
Why would this lead to a new GE? It's more likely to lead to May backing MaxFac and then proceeding on that basis...
..... I.e. customs union extensions until MaxFac is delivered in 2027.
I think most people would accept it as the compromise.
Yes, to my eyes the customs partnership thing is really messy and MaxFac the better long term option. But it is not most people that need to accept such a plan, it is the Conservative party that will need to.

Is there any demographic of Britain TMay isn't trying to p off?

Would you seriously vote to join a political union with this?

I cringe into my hands annually at the hosting.
You’re just a fanatical loon.

Unspoofable.
Hmmm....

They’d at least manage to deliver a basic level of humour.
