One possibility is that it's just one gunman with mental health issues, not allied to any groups, either Islamic or far-right.
Only problem is that German authorities now seem to be looking for others.
Curiously Austrian security types are on their way to Munich. On the face of it, they don't need to be there right now.
Possibility he's heading for the border?
The Austrians blocking their border doesn't require its police and security teams to be travelling to Munich.
The perpetrator could be from austria ?
Anyway, it won't be Crist, Hillary announced that he will run for congress. So the only VP contender that is in Florida right now is Warren, unless Kaine catches an early flight from Boston to Miami.
Joe Root is a god, ditto Alastair Cook, I do worry that they might develop serious back troubles soon, they are carrying the England top order at the moment.
Glad I've got tickets to this match
Ooh, are you going Eagles? Which day? I'm going tomorrow. Couldnt be set up any better, could it - Root and Woakes to start the day, Stokes and Bairstow yet to come.
Went today, have tickets for days 2 to 4 as well.
The sole advantage for a Yorkshireman to be a member of Lancashire CCC
All four days? What luxury. If you see a fella tomorrow trying to ward off cranial sunburn by wearing an ill-advised baseball cap advertising Badger ales, that'll be me.
I'll be the one Pakistani heritage chap who will be wearing an England shirt.
Have fun
It was fun today.
Was great fun today, this aftenoon felt like everyone was shouting no ball every time Amir bowled
LOL!
Wish I was there, although to be fair I think I was the only PBer to attend the reciprocal series last winter, all three Tests
I'm not sure I could cope with a Test Match in the UAE.
No problems. There were only about 500 people there, and the supporters quickly segregated themselves sorted themselves out by ticket price/bar availability. The Pakistani fans sitting next to the Barmy Army in the £20 seats drinking beer were mostly British guys on holiday anyway!
The 20/20 matches, on the other hand...
That's my fear for cricket, Australia and ourselves will be the only ones playing/focusing on Test cricket, whilst everyone else is only interested in one-dayers/T20s

A world championship of test cricket would help, with a proper structure, trophy and so on. Make each series part of something bigger.
Dang, I hope that isn't symptomatic of a wider trend. I can't/won't fly anymore but I have almost convinced Herself that taking the overnight train to Lisbon would be a great way to visit the Portuguese Llamas.
Pleased I used the service to Lisbon a few months ago now that it's closing. It wasn't very busy.
So that route is going? Bugger! I suppose I better start prepping her for an overnight stop in France (can't see that going down too well). The ideal would be a sea voyage from the UK to Lisbon (ideal except I would probably spend my entire time spewing up), but I can't find anyone who offers that.
You can still get a ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao, then drive or get the train to Lisbon from there.
I cannot find a express type route from Bilbao to Lisbon. It is probably doable for a real railway enthusiast, but Herself ain't one. I think I must resign myself to the fact that I need to persuade her that an overnight stop in Irun, but that is a daunting prospect.
Oh well, unfortunately it's looking like a rather long journey, or one of those new-fangled flying machine thingys.
I really cannot do aeroplanes, Mr. Pit, not anymore. When I was younger I flew a lot and very frequently, mostly BA Business/First Class, to the point where the very thought of getting on the Jumbo to Miami made me feel physically ill. I finished off my international career down your way but I would only fly Gulf Air, at least they would let me have a smoke (and ply me with booze to deaden the pain). Then there is all the shit one has to put up with at airports these days. No, I am too old, for all that.
If we are to visit the Portuguese Llamas Herself will have to put up with an overnight stop. Mr. Observer's Idea of a ferry To Bilbao (24/32 hours of spewing my ring) followed by a train to Madrid (6 hours) then another train to Lisbon (10 hours) is no doubt kindly meant but not really a runner.
Have there been detailed descriptions of the suspects circulated, as might be expected? Is there a genuine similarity between police treatment of other cases in Europe? What happened at Bluewater last month, was there really a gang-rape and did the police fail to do their duty?
The Bluewater story is one of those stories gets whipped up and myths develop. If I recall at the time, the reason for the delay from the attack to the police issuing a statement was that the victim was in no fit state to be interviewed.
The Kent constabulary only confirmed the reported incident last month, when the Messenger asked for information after an exclusive tip-off.
For that, they came in for a barrage of abuse on social media, with people questioning why details of such a serious assault were not made public immediately.
Police confirmed that none of those arrested were Muslim, after rumours circulated online.
Thanks, that link adds a lot more detail, including things both said and not said about the suspects.
Still don't understand why an abduction from a bus station didn't result in CCTV being all over the evening news that night though, while memories were fresh about things like what clothes people were wearing.
The other reason is that the CPS and the courts are concerned about potential jury contamination.
Social media, especially Facebook and Twitter is making it difficult to find an entirely untainted jury at first go when it goes to Crown Court for the most serious crimes.
You might now know the defendant directly, but turns you have a few mutual friends on Facebook, or you might like a page where the alleged crime had been discussed which was sub judice.
Didn't they used to send cases with a huge local profile somewhere else for the trial (Jo Cox murder?) ISTR other cases moving between Manchester and Leeds, or Reading and Bristol.
As you say, with almost unpolicable social media these days it might cause problems down the line, but surely anything that might make someone's mum take note when their son comes home dressed like the perp on the news, and says he got in a fight to explain away his dishevelled state, should be a good thing? It may be forgotten about a month later when someone is belatedly looking for a rapist or murderer.
What happened at Marham was not a robbery attempt.
It was an attempt to attack.
As regards Hilary's VP choice, didn't I hear somewhere she was looking at a military man?
I'm hearing about Charlie Crist, he is present at her Florida rally right now with lots of applause.
He is a former Florida governor, originally a republican until defeated by Rubio in the primary for the Senate in 2010, he then ran as an independent and as a democrat.

It's to do with the original point when it comes to victims of sexual crime often aren't in a fit state to give information, and sometimes they initially give misleading/contradictory information that a good barrister can use to the defendant's advantage.

The train from Paris to Bordeaux goes at about 150mph and then after than at about 35mph to the Spanish border. You change trains, and then it's an extremely bumpy overnight journey to Lisbon. Difficult to sleep. Doesn't surprise me it's being axed.

Unfortunately that is becoming the case. Even the Pak v India Tests were very poorly attended in UAE, despite hundreds of thousands of both nationalities living there.
The money in cricket is now with the IPL and the shorter forms of the game, and so that is where the players target their coaching and ambition. It's also what the fans generally want to see, despite the finest tradition in England of a good book and a nice bottle of wine, sitting for the day in the crowd at Lords. I'm not going to take the missus to the Test, but I have and will take her to an event which lasts only three hours and usually finishes with a bang.
Most Indians and Pakistanis (and other nations' supporters) don't see the point in the five day game any more, it's pretty much only England and Australia left - which as long we keep smashing the Convicts will be fine with me!

According to seat61 it also works via Barcelona and Madrid, always worth a visit:
Thanks, Doc, I know of the route via Barcelona and Madrid. Longer and not as nice as the Sud Express sleeper which it nows seems is to be withdrawn. No matter, if she wants to visit the Portuguese Llamas she will just have to make a little holiday out of the trip.
I will have to look at the timetables again and see where we can reasonably get to in one day. Stay overnight do some sight-seeing next day and travel on to Lisbon on day three. Maybe presented in that light Herself may go along with it.
It's a pity how quickly Test cricket has lost popularity in India. Only a few years ago there regularly used to be more than 100,000 packed into Eden Gardens to watch it.

Yes, I find it quite strange - I enjoy shorter forms of the game as well, so it's a little baffling that apparently super fans of the game in other countries apparently have just tired of the longer format.

On topic to be fair to Len McCluskey, it wouldn't be the first time MI5 have plotted against a Labour Leader.
If you were such an operative, tasked with rocking the Labour boat right now, it would surely be extremely challenging to come up with an approach to the task that wasn't already amply covered by genuine members of the party?
On topic, McCluskey, as a seasoned political operator, should know why the idea security agents are posing as Labour supporters to abuse rebel MPs is such nonsense - such idiocy, such virulence, is always best left to enthusiastic amateurs, of which there are plenty.

In a lot of developing countries they seem to have an attitude where as soon as something new comes along, they ditch the old version of whatever it is without much sense of nostalgia. For example in Bangkok I noticed that nearly everyone was using electronic devices and the only people reading print newspapers were over 60. In London, Paris and Berlin you still get plenty of people of all ages reading newspapers and books the old-fashioned way.

Good luck sorting out something. As a parting shot, you may be surprised at the cost of renting a small private jet, say from Bournemouth or Farnborough to somewhere near Lisbon, which avoids somewhat most of the inconvenience of flying while making you feel like a VIP. Maybe aided and abetted by a couple of sleeping pills and a bottle of a fine single malt.
OK there are pictures that show a middle eastern gunman with a gun on his head laying on a pavement, that has been circulating on twitter about Munich.
But the link I posted has been deleted. I'm not sure if it was one of the Munich gunmen.
One possibility is that it's just one gunman with mental health issues, not allied to any groups, either Islamic or far-right.

It is an old joke that a murderer is just an extraverted suicide. Likely to be true of the Spalding shootings last week for example.
I agree that it is simplistic to blame these murderers on mental illness, but mentally ill people are perhaps more vulnerable than most to the schemes of the radicalisers. Death with a ticket to the afterlife has quite an appeal to the vulnerable, particularly those feeling that they need to atone for past sins.
Intelligence led strikes, particularly the drone war, is at least one way of fighting back.

Some sources now calling Munich as Islamist terrorist attack.
Yes, some reports are that a gunman shouted "I am German" followed by God is Great in Arabic. That would sound like he was protesting about the fact that people weren't treating him like a German even though he felt like one.

Going back in my darkest memory, so far as I can remember (and I make no claim of total recall) during the 1970s T&G head Jack Jones, who had been wounded in the Spanish Civil War - worked with MI5 to monitor extreme left wing elements in the union. I can still hear him rambling about some book about a ragged philanthropist or something. He used to go on and on about it for some reason, like it was holy writ.

I'm not planning on finding out I have an effective quality filter - generally only read stuff more than 500 years old (applying similar to music also quite effective)
So you're not up to Henry VIII compositions yet?
bad maths 400 yrs for music need to have me thomas tallis
some book about a ragged philanthropist or something. .
it's not exactly a pageturner.

Hmmm. madrigals and hey nonny..... could be worse
I notice his Wikipedia entry lists his record labels. Hope he made a killing.
On topic I don't think this conspiracy goes far enough. Maybe MI5 are trying to destroy Labour and discredit the left, and their agent is Jeremy Corbyn.
who knows? undercover operators have gone far enough undercover to have families with environmentalists.
Maybe Jez went native after Dianne
Someone must have a file on their motorcycle holiday in the DDR.

well, he stayed alive writing religious music during a period of sectarian strife, so i guess that's a victory of sorts
Can someone please recommend a reputable laptop battery supplier, as my laptop's battery is no longer taking full charges.
check amazon
Its for a Toshiba - don't recognise the brands Amazon has thrown up. Any idea which ones to avoid?
My daughter is death to technology, and I have bought several non-Toshiba batteries for her Toshiba. Check the user comments. You should be fine as they cost next to nothing anyway.
Also, what wisdom has age brought you that you allude to?
avoiding fashionable books!
If it was fashionable I'd probably have heard of it even if I hadn't read it.
if i recall correctly it featured TB and wallpapering. a winning combination, surely.
Now if only "The MAgic Mountain" had featured some wallpapering
For solid advice it's hard to beat this isbn - 1580083633
it was probably written by an undercover MI5 operative
Because there's something solid to go on, or because the job is not finished until the paperwork is done?
The book was my goto gag gift for ages, particularly among the more correct Southern Baptists. They had to appear pleased and grateful even though they were twisting slowly on a spit inside.
German police press briefing: the perp was apparently an 18-year-old German-Iranian who has been living in Germany for a long time and had no previous contact with the police. No word on motive yet.

Thanks for the help, advice - had a look at some comments, and managed to place an order without my machine crashing.

If he shot himself, maybe he wasn't islamist or far right, islamists normally keep killing people until they are killed and don't normally argue back with people. Unhinged.
Just back from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Dinner at the Punjab Club was more British than almost anything in the Mother Country.

Sounds likely. With an Iranian background, I'd certainly have thought he's unlikely to have been an IS sympathiser.

The Iranian Embassy siege back in 1980 was down to Iranian Sunnis.

These political acts of terror really suck at explaining their actual politics. A couple of barely-audible lines shouted at the start of the attack? FFS how hard would it be to put up a page on a website?

Anyway, it won't be Crist, Hillary announced that he will run for congress.
So the only VP contender that is in Florida right now is Warren, unless Kaine catches an early flight from Boston to Miami.

The original Gemstone in 1972 was so illegal it was ditched by Nixon for something lighter that ended up in Watergate.
I will have to look at the timetables again and see where we can reasonably get to in one day. Stay overnight do some sight-seeing next day and travel on to Lisbon on day three. Maybe presented in that light Herself may go along with it.
But the link I posted has been deleted.
I'm not sure if it was one of the Munich gunmen.
With that goodnight.
So take your yawn and stick it where the sun shineth not.

Should note that no one has come out on the record on that yet.
I was told about it by someone who was in the territorials up there at the time who claims people are doing time for it (but I don't remember the case at all)
But my Continental holdings at present include
