This was " Final Destination 6 " as a result of the England squad tripping over and running into each other yet still exiting the tunnel and making it to the pitch unscathed.
I sprayed a little cider when I saw them run into each other trying to leave the tunnel. It was writ all over their faces they were going to lose but the Keystone Kops routine before they'd even got on the pitch was priceless.
I genuinely feel sorry for Chris Robshaw. Easily the most likeable England Captain we've had in a long time: he throws himself heart & soul into every match, and clearly lives and breathes the game.
You can tell this means the world for him. He looks absolutely gutted. But, at the end of the day, sadly he just wasn't good enough.
He's a decent-ish player and a terrible captain. He also now has the terrible taint of loser and failure, after England's worst rugby humiliation ever. Can't see how his position is remotely sustainable.
I agree, but this is going to cut him up for the rest of his life. I genuinely feel for the guy.
I don't. He's a loser. Fuck losers. Throw them in the sea etc. Heh.

Stop being sentimental. Robshaw is an extremely lucky, very well paid man with a beautiful partner who has entirely failed at his one job. Because, it turns out, he isn't very good. Why should we feel sorry for him because he is a "nice chap"?
Get rid. You want the big bucks? - then make the right calls. He didn't. Goodbye.
Why get worked up over rugby union when the best game of rugby you will see will be at Old Trafford next Saturday?
He might sleep on it and take soundings from the RFU tomorrow.
As far as I can recall, Lancaster has won NOTHING. No grand slams, no cups, not even a championship? Now the worst humiliation of all. Given the resources he has, this is utterly unacceptable. He has to go. And I suspect he knows it.
It's a bit like Miliband, tho, should he stay on a couple of weeks, to oversee the degradation of the last match against Djibouti, or does he quit overnight? Either way he goes.
The question now is should he fall on his sword? That might be a bit aggressive even if the damage is to himself.

It's not unusual for someone to be very average for many, many years then suddenly strike gold. Give him a chance.
It seems that the SNP are cutting Michelle Thomson adrift. So if she has any discomfiting material on the SNP leadership no doubt we shall hear it soon enough.

@fatshez: Michelle Thomson will be delighted she spent so much of the last week defending the SNP.
I can't believe McDonnell is only two years younger than Corbyn. He looks a decade younger. But that is probably more down to Corbyn looking like a frail old man.
On topic, yes, 50/1 was too big. But I think the nominations will be too big a hurdle for him, unless the NEC change the rules (or enough of the party defect).
@JournoStephen: The BBC, secret Canadians, Michelle Thomson... When will it be Salmond's fault for losing that referendum he lost? https://t.co/lANtvHrYmW

Evening all. On topic, a very good article by @antifrank that echoes my own thoughts about what happens after Corbyn. The hard left have taken over the party and it will take 10 years minimum to get someone electable back in charge. 50/1 on McDonell is huge value, although will probably be 20s by the morning.
Neil Kinnock must be wondering how in five years he went from getting his party back, to having those he spent a decade throwing out of the party back with a vengeance.
Took a train ride today to Bristol for a wine fair. Noticed that FGW have now started changing their entire livery and all carriages are a type of British Racing Green with GWR on the sides. Saw some single carriages at Paddington last week but thought it was a one off.
He might sleep on it and take soundings from the RFU tomorrow.
The ITV commentator said (unless I misheard) that the RFU chief exec was at pitchside for the last training session before this match. That sounds like a pretty clear threat.
There's no "threat" they can make.
He is under contract for the next FIVE years. They either pay him the five years salary, send him on gardening leave for five years, or negotiate a pay off.
Given that the England Coach is probably the best paid job in World Rugby, I doubt he is eager to negotiate anything below what he is legally entitled to - the full value of the rest of his contract.
Well, that depends on the exact terms of his contract, which I assume isn't in the public domain.

Nah, it's not that black and white. And there's no need to be unnecessarily nasty - I've already said downthread that Robshaw clearly wasn't good enough - but even though we're raw and angry about the result right now, it's not sentimental to point out his attributes too.
Robshaw led from the front, by example, and threw himself physically into every game 100%. From reading interview after interview about him he personally felt every setback by his team, but shared the credit for the team's victories wherever they were won. I don't doubt he gave it his all today too; he's a consummate sportsman.
There's a much finer line between success and failure than most of us are prepared to admit: life can be precariously fickle. Most of ours could and would have taken very different paths for a few bad calls, and I won't kick a good man when he's down.
You're rather keen to assume that Russia's claims are true. Let's wait and see.
I'd also like to see evidence for "Not cutting off any of their supply lines." And please, this time, no links to a news organisation whose owner is best buds with Assad.
On another point, you're telling the US off for action in Afghanistan, yet criticising them for being too hesitant in Syria. Perhaps (rightly(( trying to follow the rules of law is the cause of some of the hesitancy, especially when people back home are keen to blame them for everything?
Where have I told the US off for action in Afghanistan? I'm telling our supine media and political class off for parading manipulative images of suffering in Syria to build a case against Assad, but excusing (quite reasonably) US collateral damage. Do you think the Syrian 'rebels' haven't twigged that they can shelter in schools hospitals and mosques?
You seemed to be moaning about it below.
The case against Assad is strong. It;s just that you don't believe the copious evidence, yet are strangely very keen to jump on Russia's utterly unverified claim about ISIS's weakness.
Since you're not even willing to believe that Assad gassed his own citizens back in 2013, there seems little that you would be willing to blame Assad for. And given your previous comments on the Ukraine, the same seems to be true for Russia and Putin.
Well, time will tell won't it? If ISIS continues to grow and expand in spite of the efforts of the new coalition, I will have been proven wrong.
ISIS will be scattered at first but similar beasts will come back in time, as we saw in Iraq.
The Middle East is a mess and will continue to be for a long time. We are better off stating clear and avoiding any taint of being associated what will always be a mess.
He might sleep on it and take soundings from the RFU tomorrow.

He'll go, though. Guaranteed. The anger is palpable. It'll cost, but his position is painfully and psychologically untenable.
The entire top tier of English rugby should be pensioned off.
This defeat should be like the Atlanta Olympics was for British Olympic sports. When we realised how low we had sunk - just 1 gold - and we changed attitudes and got real and ended up triumphant.
The RFU have huge amounts of cash, probably more than the LTA has and second only to the FA. They are already spending huge amounts on development. But you can't guarantee success no matter how much you spend if you're facing opposition who work at the same level.
The Olympics is a different kettle of fish. Team GB are the only professional outfits in Rowing and Track Cycling, the only country where any money is being spent. It's not hard to be successful when you have no competition. Sure it's fun rubbing French noses into the boards at the velodrome. But they haven't taken track cycling seriously since the 1970s.
The RFU don't have that luxury. No matter how much they spend they will never have an advantage over at least Australia and New Zealand and a lot of the time South Africa and France.

Yes. Go Wigan!
lndeed - have to say l'm sorry Leeds and St Helens did not quite belt seven bells out of each other like they usually do. Wigan look pretty sold and together. Embarrassment of choices in the backs and an increasingly classy looking stand off.
We are told that the RFU have a massive pool of players. Why then do they play a RL prop forward with zero RU international experience at centre? No doubt the emptiness of English (and GB) rugby union will be again exposed when they try to sign a proper centre from Leeds Rhinos.

Lancaster has a lot more to answer for FWIW.
No, it is precisely this attitude which leads to rugby failure. Good egg, nice chap, tried his best, blah blah.
England have overwhelmingly superior resources in rugby. Theoretically they should win every World Cup, alongside maybe France, with the odd Bok or All Black snatching the prize.
But they don't. Because others want it more and train harder and feel more commitment. And this is good for the sport.
That said England should NEVER go four Six Nations and win nothing (as with Robshaw and Lancaster) nor should they host a World Cup and go out in the bloody First Round.
Robshaw did a job, made lots of money, turns out he's crap, he can go away now.
If I was paid loads of money to write a novel and it turned out no one bought it because it was shite, I would not expect people to feel sorry for me when my contract was not renewed, and I got to keep the money anyway.
*Sighs* You're refuting a different point to the one I was making: I don't make any excuses for the lacklustre English performance. I just personally feel for Robshaw, because I really like the guy and know this is going to be crushing for him.
But you know this. Never mind, let's perhaps talk again when you're sober.
I can't believe McDonnell is only two years younger than Corbyn. He looks a decade younger. But that is probably more down to Corbyn looking like a frail old man.

I am not here to gloat but it amazes me how soft England are on their team.
Wilkinson after the game "we have an amazing group of players" WTF. Delusional.
I'm annoyed for you. England need a harsh Kiwi who tells it like it is.
Quite. England really need someone who will tell it as it is to their mollycoddled players.
The RFU still like to think that they're playing an amateur sport but the rest of the world are professionals. That view had a brief challenge between 2001 and 2003, but has definitely now returned.

The Australian Track Cycling program has a fraction of the Team GB budget (which at £20m per annum is just massive in terms of the sport). The Aussies spent AUD31m on the 4 years until London 2012 or AUD7.75m per annum. That's about £3m a year, roughly one seventh of the British Cycling Track budget.
It should also be pointed out that because of how the funding works for British Cycling (and all Team GB Olympic Sports), they do not care about anything except the Olympic cycle and have always performed far worse at interim world champs than at the subsequent Olympics.

The Middle East is a mess and will continue to be for a long time. We are better off stating clear and avoiding any taint of being associated what will always be a mess.
A major reason why ISIS haven't been smashed by the US etc is what will happen after they are defeated.
Which, given the Joy Joy nature of civil wars based on religion, will be genocide in the other direction. i.e. "rm -rf *sunni*". The nature of ISIS method of civil discourse is such that their opponents are probably up for the full Vlad Tepes thing.....
The Iraqi government has - to date - refused to do anything to restrain the Shia militias which are their chosen method of fighting ISIS. Let those guys rip in a Sunni area...
A singular piece of work - never acknowledged as far as I can tell - was the way in which the US ended the Yugoslav wars by arming the Croats. Without allowing them off the leash and playing return genocide on the Serbs. There were incidents, but in general it was extraordinarily controlled.
This by the way was the reason that the diplomatic professionals had been so against arming the opponents of the Serbs - they had assumed that the result would be ethnic slaughter going the other way. Anyone remember Farmer Tim on the subject of Douglas Herd?
2015 must be an awful year if you're a Blairite English rugby loving person who works for an opinion pollster
Could be an ugly weekend next week for us Jocks - could get knocked out of 2 World Cups in 72 hrs (footie and rugby )
World cup in football?
Lol. Us plastic Jocks.
Blood and soil nationalism
You've activated the random tittish Godwinism generator again, haven't you?
Luckily we had those staunch supporters of the Union, the SDL & their Combat 18 pals on Princes Street today to remind us about blood & soil nationalism.

My 'high point'
The EDLer complaining that his local Pakistani owned corner shop had become a fucking Polish shop. He signed off his facebook post with "I don't recognise this country anymore"
That's truly fantastic.
I ordered takeout from a Syrian/Lebanese place (that's how they advertise, I'm not conflating the two nations) a couple of weeks ago and it was delivered by a Polish gentleman - what a world when we cannot even have our 'ethnic' food delivered to us by members of that ethnicity, for shame, I'm sure the EDLer would agree.
The best ones are the ones who think St George was an Englishman and not a chap from the middle east who never stepped foot in England
How dare you, sir, To suggest St George has no real English connection. Why, you cannot get a more English name than George. Other than it being Greek of course.
The Olympics is a different kettle of fish. Team GB are the only professional outfits in Rowing and Track Cycling, the only country where any money is being spent.
Where, oh where, do you find all this pish?
Australia regularly win at track cycling. let's look at this year's World Champs perhaps?
Australia 4 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze
GB 3 Silver
The Australian Track Cycling program has a fraction of the Team GB budget (which at £20m per annum is just massive in terms of the sport). The Aussies spent AUD31m on the 4 years until London 2012 or AUD7.75m per annum. That's about £3m a year, roughly one seventh of the British Cycling Track budget.
It should also be pointed out that because of how the funding works for British Cycling (and all Team GB Olympic Sports), they do not care about anything except the Olympic cycle and have always performed far worse at interim world champs than at the subsequent Olympics.
So why don't China win every medal at the Olympics ?

Three Lions are African? (possibly Indian as there's still a population in the Gir Forest)

I guess that's why the TeamGB athletes only got 7 medals at this year's World Champs when they got 6 at the London Olympics

He makes McDonnell look like a political pygmy.
Not Invictus.

On topic, yes, 50/1 was too big. But I think the nominations will be too big a hurdle for him, unless the NEC change the rules (or enough of the party defect).

Looks very stylish and 1920's type style.......
Lancaster has a lot more to answer for FWIW.

Just don't tell SWMBO. I'm sure PB can keep a secret.
Will Corbyn 'reform' the selection process to do away with the MPs altogether..?
Wigan look pretty sold and together. Embarrassment of choices in the backs and an increasingly classy looking stand off.
We are told that the RFU have a massive pool of players. Why then do they play a RL prop forward with zero RU international experience at centre? No doubt the emptiness of English (and GB) rugby union will be again exposed when they try to sign a proper centre from Leeds Rhinos.

Wilkinson after the game "we have an amazing group of players" WTF. Delusional.
I'm annoyed for you. England need a harsh Kiwi who tells it like it is.
In other news, went on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex for the first time today.

@MichaelPDeacon: The Cybernats really need to raise their game now the Corbynistas are in town. They're being comprehensively outfuckwitted
Not on PB. Dair is determined the Zoomers keep their crown...
But you know this. Never mind, let's perhaps talk again when you're sober.
A catalogue of success in every sport.
I've been doing some research for an upcoming thread for PB, and I've been looking into the EDL/SDL/Britain First for part of it.
Christ on a bike, they are some of the dumbest people ever to have existed.

Once again you come onto my patch, and go on my bloody railway too, and don't let me buy you lunch.
Yes, hard hitting political commentary here.
The RFU still like to think that they're playing an amateur sport but the rest of the world are professionals. That view had a brief challenge between 2001 and 2003, but has definitely now returned.

And the players! They just weren't on display tonight.
An example. As a welshman the out half I feared by far the most was Cipriani. He was outstanding in the trial games. He never even made the 32.

Also avast: two weeks ago I was in Brighton.
Oh, wait...
