"I'll wait until after the Blair Witch Project goes away."
There's no downside for Labour with Blair's intervention (unless of course the Hague police turn up which seems unlikely). He was very good and reminded me quite how mediocre and feeble Cameron is next to someone good
Almost everyone hates Blair. When you receive a public endorsement from a universally hated figure you are bound to lose votes, even Blair knows it, that is why he is out publicly in his endorsement in order to cost Labour the GE, it's one of his old tricks.
Serious point - if you've given up hope and have £15k available do your ISA before May 7th - expect Miliband to impose restrictions of some sort (especially if you've already got quite a lot in ISAs).
Having said that, there have been big outlier polls over Easter / Bank holidays in the past - and neither Populus or YouGov show anything dramatic. Just one more Con voter and Populus would have only been a 1% Lab lead.
But even so, Con really need better polls over the next 7 days.
Mike,
The online polls are generally favourable to LAB.
I was on the knock yesterday in North London - a through and through Labour area - a quarter of respondents had people in the house on holiday. It's Easter, It's half term.
Normality starts next week.
So everyone benefiting from the supposed economic upturn (and therefore voting Tory) were off galavanting when Yougov and populus called... or emailed... oh dear where is crossover?

Yes I know - perfectly reasonable points - but even so it's not great.
If true position was Con lead of say 0.5% to 1% (as might be indicated by continuation of trend per last weeks ELBOW) then would it be likely we get both Populus and YouGov still showing Lab +2?

Make sure your pension is in good order too if you're defined contribution.
Great interview with Gove on Newsnight. I realise now why I used to like him so much when he did the Late Show. Gove genuinely needs a career out of politics.

Welsh tourettes will not save the Toties on the state of the English NHS IMO
The absence of a Labour solution may do so though. BJO keeps trashing the NHS but does not say what Miliband will do differently.
An empty vessel makes the most noise.
Have you found out how much your Trusts finances have deteriorated yet?
You think the 27% rise in Agency is down to lifestyle choice not money though don;t you?
Why do you think your Trust and 80% of Acutes are in deficit compared to 1% in 2010?
Or are you an empty vessel in respect of explaining this.
How is Labour going to sort out the Acute Trusts finances?
How is Labour going to meet the 4 hr target with attendences going up each year?
How is Labour going to spend the BCT fund?
How is Labour going to meet the cancer target?
How is Labour going to reduce the number of agency staff?
No answers... just a running down of hard working NHS staff by BJO.
Well Lab has a history of record investment and outcomes so they will IMO.
They will repeal the HSCB which is biased against Acutes as Primary Care Commissioners invest in Primary Care unsurprisingly as they are primary care providers.
Do you even know anything about your own Hospitals deficit or have any clue to what you attribute the collapse of Acute hospitals finances?
None of the problems are down to hard working NHS staff (even coalition supporting ones BTW)

I see "Carry on at Your Convenience" is on ITV in a few minutes. It was a rare Carry on flop (probably for taking the mickey from the workers rather than the bosses) but I do rather like it. It reminds me of the England of my youth, despite all the strikes etc the Seventies were good times.

I've been hearing that from Conservative supporters since October. After the conference... By Christmas.. In January... In February.. Due in March... Once the campaign starts..
Now, it's due *from* Monday 13th April. Less than 4 weeks before polling day, and when some people will already have started receiving their ballot papers.
I don't doubt the Tories will pull ahead on votes on the day, but they've totally failed to win the values and brand argument with Labour. That will cost us all very, very heavily.
Wish we still had the like button.
Thanks. I'm frustrated that the Conservative party leader has totally failed to move the country towards Conservative values over the last 5 years.

He just hasn't gone out there and grappled with that argument. He hasn't taken to the airwaves. Debated, argued and pushed for the alternative point of view. Fought for what he believes in.
In fact, he's gone along with it to an extent by denigrating his own activist base and membership. He's been more interested in apologising for Conservative beliefs and policies, either directly or indirectly through triangulation, than defending them.
It's hardly surprisingly the electorate have concluded he's right. In the end, he just won't get enough votes. The very fact we're arguing about a smidgen of a percentage point here and there, just to eek out another four to five extra seats, to try and get that photo-finish just before Labour do, proves that.
So everyone benefiting from the supposed economic upturn (and therefore voting Tory) were off galavanting when Yougov and populus called... or emailed... oh dear where is crossover?
It's nothing.
It's normal.
People with plenty of money go away. People with some money go out. People with no money, stay home.
It isn't political in the slightest. It's economics.
If you do research and you want working people. try nights (avoid fridays) and weekends (especially Sunday evenings). If you want the retired and unemployed, try days - but avoid mornings, especially Mondays (pension day)
Really good interview of Gove by Ewan Davies on Newsnight. Particularly liked the way he asked him where the 'socially caring message' was in the campaign so far as Gove so brilliantly described in his speech for 'The good right' a few weeks back.

Quite. I find the continued confidence of some Tories, and the lack of confidence from Labour supporters, pretty baffling, although at least the Labour supporters have dire polling in Scotland to fuel their pessimism. Tory optimism seems based entirely on what it seems should happen if things were only fair, ignoring that while late shifts can indeed happen, this is getting pretty darn late, and even the things that were supposed to cause a late shift (people actually seeing Ed M) do not appear to have had an impact.
I will not mind looking a fool for saying the Tories have almost no chance if I am proven wrong, as of the options I would prefer a Cameron premiership, but the 'just you wait' argument is starting to run out of steam I think.
There's a reason Cameron brought Samantha and the kids along to PMQs the week before last. Because he knows full well it is very likely to be his last.
Tonight I have cut open the belly of a chicken fresh from the farm, scattered it's entrails on my special pagan alter and looked into the political future. Except for the bright purple hilltops and enclaves, all looks dark and mirky; provoking fresh elections in October 2015.
A bright purple hilltop - a Scottish hilltop, covered in heather. In an SNP constituency.

A large part of the reason acute Trusts are in deficit are because of Labours PFI idiocy.
Labour does not have any solutions to the ills of the NHS, just a mysterious 8 000 Gps appearing out of thin air funded by a mansion tax.
But you do not seem to want investment in primary care...
At least the LDs are honest in wanting to raise taxes to fund the shortfall in NHS funding. Labourites just point at the shortfall without advocating any solution. They either do not have a solution, or are lying about how they will raise taxes.
The NHS will not be preserved by Labour activists who consistently rubbish the NHS and its hard working staff.

I doubt it actually.
I know it would make a good partisan point to pretend he will but it's pretty hard to see what could be done retrospectively.
As with most things he'll do what's easy. I would think a straightforward limit on how much you can have in ISAs - probably set at either £50k or £100k. But anything already in an ISA remains in an ISA.
I think that's what has happened when the maximum pension fund limit has been reduced - they haven't gone back and "de-pensioned" anything.
It's passing strange that one of the biggest topics on a debate about an election in four weeks' time is what a party may have in their manifesto for another election next year. A lot of the campaign has been about devolved issues, too - particularly the NHS. It seems people aren't that interested in Westminster.
I think I said before the weekend that we shouldn't read too much into the polls until the end of this week.
Falling on deaf ears but its so true. I said next Monday but at least the weekend. Thing is loads of pple are away with kids. Need to see the shakedown next week.
Cameron and Osborne need to show some sunny uplands instead of mostly cuts, get on the front foot for fcuk sake.

But I also think we will go backwards under a labour Government.
And no EU Referendum too.
A Miliband-led government will make Francois Hollande look like George Washington. He will use his elected platform to pursue the narrow cultural-marxist obsessions of his cabal, splashing cash on his special interests, whilst practising economic illiteracy with a zealotry that would make Michael Foot blush.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if within 6 months the British public come to bitterly regret their decision, and no-one admits to ever voting for him, but by then it'll be too late.

I'm told that there was a story in the F.T. today about serious NHS financial problems. They are greater than would be expected, given the increase in spending.
From what I heard, they have been attributed to the 2012 Health and Social Care Act (also known as the top-down re-organisation).

Casino, maybe the simple fact of the matter is that Dave doesn't passionately believe in anything other than Dave being prime minister? He seems to have few convictions or guiding principles, which explains the complete incoherence in Tory message since 2005.
"I've just finished watching Peeping Tom on the Horror Channel (Freeview 70)! "
Good film
I saw a documentary on Scorcese, and he referenced Peeping Tom on a number of occasions. I watched Bird (Eastwood's Charlie Parker biopic), last night, and found it sublime. Eastwood's filmmaking is as good as Leans, Ford et al. Eastwood really stands out as one of the greats of American directing. How he can be so compassionate in his work, and a supporter of GOP baffles me.

You seem muddled. In your first para you bemoan lack of tory values and suggest labour are party of fairness. But as Theresa May pointed out tory values don't equate to fairness they equate to nastiness. So Cameron has been right about his activist base.
anyway off to bed. all those people getting over excited about todays polls should remember the yougov after debate No.1. Wait til after the easter hols. unpopular message to repeat but it needs to be said.

Anecdotally, we did a deep Tory ward today, and were startled by the lack of enthusiasm of the Tory vote - not many Con->Lab or Lab->Con switchers, but numerous 2010 Tory voters saying they really weren't sure if they'd vote this time, or who for. 50% more people waiting over 18 weeks than in 2010
Are we allowed to mention that or will it be weaponising the NHS
Cancer targets missed for 5th successive quarter
Are we allowed to mention that or will it be weaponising the NHS
80% of Acute Hospitals in deficit compared to 1% in 2010
Are we allowed to mention that or will it be weaponising the NHS
Has the Welsh NHS published any NHS statistics yet or are Labour still covering it up.
Have Labour actually promised to repeal Lansley's bill? I'm not sure another top down organisation will help. Of course, they may not have the votes to make any major changes if the SNP abstain on English health bills.
http://news.sky.com/story/1460548/labour-would-abolish-non-dom-tax-status "a spokesman for Ed. Milliband said 'UK citizens should pay tax on all gains, anywhere in the world'". Which if correct means it wouldn't apply to the likes of Lakshmi Mittal as he is not a British citizen, and presumably wouldn't bother to become one either.
Hold on...isn't that the issue with most non-doms that live here? The opposite way around i.e they don't live here, could they just not give up their British Citizenship?
Patrick O'Flynn (@oflynnmep) 07/04/2015 22:38 Ukip back up to 14% on YouGov tonight. Probably not what the Heir to Blair had in mind when he made his "come home" plea.
I see "Carry on at Your Convenience" is on ITV in a few minutes. It was a rare Carry on flop (probably for taking the mickey from the workers rather than the bosses) but I do rather like it. It reminds me of the England of my youth, despite all the strikes etc the Seventies were good times.
It's not as good as "I'm Alright Jack" but it still captures an entire era of Labour rule and why that party proved to be such an inept, nepotistic failure.
Tory rule, surely?
I think that "Carry on at your Convenience" was released under the Heath government. But all Seventies governments blend into one.
Some great background detail though, the workers are out on strike over restrictions on tea breaks...
Cameron and Osborne need to show some sunny uplands instead of mostly cuts, get on the front foot for fcuk sake.
I thought you were a kipper.
I am,but come on mr O,Prime minister Miliband - lol
But I also think we will go backwards under a labour Government.
And no EU Referendum too.
A Miliband-led government will make Francois Hollande look like George Washington. He will use his elected platform to pursue the narrow cultural-marxist obsessions of his cabal, splashing cash on his special interests, whilst practising economic illiteracy with a zealotry that would make Michael Foot blush.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if within 6 months the British public come to bitterly regret their decision, and no-one admits to ever voting for him, but by then it'll be too late.
This is too depressing. I'm going to bed.
You should go to mattforde.com and take a listen to the podcast of his show w Portillo... V interesting
The Tories are going to have a very hard day tomorrow if they try to defend non dom status. They would be better off conceding now.
Could this new policy be game changer for labour ?
Depends if it stands up to closer examination. I would say a lot harder than it sounds to just say non-doms pay your tax where you live, hence why the non-dom "charge".
Labour will stress that foreigners in the UK for a genuine temporary short period will be able to retain non-dom status. The party intends to consult on the length of that period if it wins the election.

When you receive a public endorsement from a universally hated figure you are bound to lose votes, even Blair knows it, that is why he is out publicly in his endorsement in order to cost Labour the GE, it's one of his old tricks.
Goodnight.
I've just finished watching Peeping Tom on the Horror Channel (Freeview 70)!
If true position was Con lead of say 0.5% to 1% (as might be indicated by continuation of trend per last weeks ELBOW) then would it be likely we get both Populus and YouGov still showing Lab +2?
It's possible, but not that likely.
They will repeal the HSCB which is biased against Acutes as Primary Care Commissioners invest in Primary Care unsurprisingly as they are primary care providers.
Do you even know anything about your own Hospitals deficit or have any clue to what you attribute the collapse of Acute hospitals finances?

That is a great movie, and one that Scorcese cites as one of his major influences.
A dose of hard gritty reality relative to the spin delusion and fantasy of this sites obsessive twisters
In no way do I sense David Cameron has given any answer to the perennial problem that Labour are seen as the party of fairness (even though what I think of Labour and what they've done to this country probably can't be written here) and the Tories as repellent.

Apart from that, good point...

Smukesh Indeed, not much fun with a Miliband government
Labour does not have any solutions to the ills of the NHS, just a mysterious 8 000 Gps appearing out of thin air funded by a mansion tax.
But you do not seem to want investment in primary care...
At least the LDs are honest in wanting to raise taxes to fund the shortfall in NHS funding. Labourites just point at the shortfall without advocating any solution. They either do not have a solution, or are lying about how they will raise taxes.
The NHS will not be preserved by Labour activists who consistently rubbish the NHS and its hard working staff.
The BBC have been lapping up labours new policies and the attacks on the tories for the last 3/4 days and tomorrow will be the non-dom story.

Good film
I know it would make a good partisan point to pretend he will but it's pretty hard to see what could be done retrospectively.
As with most things he'll do what's easy. I would think a straightforward limit on how much you can have in ISAs - probably set at either £50k or £100k. But anything already in an ISA remains in an ISA.
I think that's what has happened when the maximum pension fund limit has been reduced - they haven't gone back and "de-pensioned" anything.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if within 6 months the British public come to bitterly regret their decision, and no-one admits to ever voting for him, but by then it'll be too late.

This from the other unmentionable site. If correct - and it seems the best we have - then two things emerge.
I am not surprised by Murphy loosing ground. He really is obnoxious. Nor am I surpised by Rennie. He would giev the most forbearing person indegestion!
I am not surprised by the sainted Nicola - she looks and sounds the best.
I am only surprised by the poor result for Davidson. I thought she was a clear second. However the Tories are toxic.
