Why are there two GOPs on the ballot?

Maness is a Tea Party type candidate backed by Sarah Palin, who feels that Cassidy "represents all that is wrong with mainstream Republicans."

Looks like Warner will survive in Virginia.

Georgia - Republicans both governor and senator get over 50% so no runoff. Phew

Ernst wins in Iowa - Republicans now control the Senate. There are still 4 more states, all of which are Democratic. LA will probably go Republican next month.

This is much more an anti-Obama vote than a pro-Republican vote.

Now can the Republicans govern and will Obama finally agree to compromise if the Republicans will do so too.

    The hog castrator won.

North Carolina goes Republican too! This is huge

It'll be interesting to see which party wins the HoR popular vote, notwithstanding uncontested seats.

Can't believe there are uncontested seats. Isn't one of the senate fights uncontested too? utterly barmy!!
There are stackloads of uncontested seats for the House.
Which is totally insane!! It's like having an uncontested constituency here at home.
Leaving seats uncontested would actually be a good strategy for British parties. Unlike the American system, which sensibly assigns seats based on population, the British go by voter registration. Boycott elections in your opponents' heartlands, crash voter registration rates (why register if there's no opposition candidate?) and the Boundary Commission will eliminate your opponents' seats for you in the next boundary review.

That North Carolina win is huge and unexpected for the GOP.

Almost a clean sweep for the Republicans in the South.

And, it looks as if they'll make a net gain of Governors.

I'm not sure what constitutes a wave election, but this has to be close.
  • MTimTMTimT Posts: 7,034
TimB Not quite a wave - if it were, NH and VA would have fallen too. But it is good, especially on the Governors side. Maryland!!!!
And why were the polls so wrong in KY, GA and KS?

I didn't see a single Michelle Nunn sign driving around. Maybe there's a silent GOP segment - who knows?

My wife got her US citizenship 6 weeks ago so I attribute this to her. it's much easier that way :-)

MA, IL and MD all falling to the GOP governors, and Mark Warner nearly losing is huge. Congratulate your wife on her influence! Looks like the GOP is having a good night in the House too. Most seats since 1920s?

All still here, alas (save the doggies, who are welcome to live very long lives!). Warner would have lost if the Libertarian votes went to Gillespie.
Possible we may move to Ocala, FL... Visiting this weekend to look at a place. Won't miss the winters. In TN next week to do Ebola training for the Dept of Health. Working with the guys from Emory.

Can I just do a quick shout out from my friend Seth Moulton?

Just elected to Congress for the MA 6th - bit of a squeeker - but hope you all got on him at the tasty odds available when I tipped him 18m ago (he was trying to unseat a 7 term. Incumbent from his own party in a primary at that point)

They were... but it's been a bad, bad night for the Dems, and a very good one for the Republicans.
