    Salmond wins round one.

His argument resonates in any inner city Labour heartland.

Salmond's arguments that didn't get government they voted for can equally be used to give independence to Cornwall or the South East.

Not sure if it is geographically restricted, I'm using a UK-based proxy to connect. Still, seamless video, unlike the crock of shite which is the STVPlayer.
  • Curse of the new thread.

Anybody struggling to access the debate may wish to try putting a Freeview box through its Initial Installation process using a Glaswegian postcode of G2 4PP. This worked for me using a Freeview box.

Argh. Break for the "spin room". What kind of half arsed debate is this? Feckin STV, the poor quality Scottish broadcaster could put people off voting Yes!
  • hucks67hucks67 Posts: 758
STV online is working in England now and not freezing as much.
  • I think I understand the purpose of this debate.

It's to allow Nats and Unionists to agree on one thing, the format of this debate is crap.
  • felixfelix Posts: 15,175
I'd be amazed if the debate changes the polling enough for Salmond to get his way - despite the move to Yes 14% is still a hefty gap to bridge in a few weeks.
  • Got STV player working just in time for the adverts!

The audience is raising some right issues, how can there be a single country without the same currency (much less the same media).

This doesn't feel like a gamechanger yet. Nowhere near.

Salmond definitely has the best lines, but he can't get away from the fact he is asking Scots to take a huge risk. If he's wrong, they're buggered.

Interesting the biggest cheer so far was about trying to pay for a London cab with a Scottish £20 note.

They are right, scottish notes are unnecessary and confusing, they should be abolished.

    Good evening, everyone.

    Two contrary things to consider:
Brown wasn't expected to debate well. When he failed to defecate in his undergarments live on air it was portrayed as a decent performance.

Clegg wasn't expected to debate well. Apart from some blatant massive lies, he did alright (against Farage), and got murdered by the press coverage (and audience views, to be fair).

    How will Darling fare?

"I know this will be hard, but contemplate for a moment that you might be wrong".. or something along those lines. Regarding the proposed currency union.

Not if you judge the response of the audience by the clapping – the whole subject of the £ appears to go completely over their heads. – Darling has improved slightly on his opening statement, however .

There is too much clapping and noise coming from the audience, IMO.

Mr. Isam, poorly phrased. I meant Clegg was expected to lose the debate for popularity and subject matter reasons, but he didn't so much get beaten as thrashed to within an inch of his life.
