Tsar's are only appointed for headlines, and this is a good one.
Performative nonsense then. And a missed opportunity.

May as well not bother changing government then if we're just going to get more of the same.
    Regrettably we are,

I recognise the Totenkopf, but what's 936 mean?
    https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/rangers-launch-investigation-hit-out-27821614
Thanks. Still doesn't explain the 936, unless it is a numerological thing = ICF which might be Inter-City Firm for want of any better guess.
Yes: 936 means ICF means Inter-City Firm.

Bonus question: which ICF came first - Rangers or West Ham?

As for the skull, is it really a Nazi reference or is it a reference to freemasonry, perhaps even Templar flavoured? This is Rangers after all.

The Skull and Bones at Yale call themselves Order 322, a reference to the year BCE that Demosthenes died.

There is a kind of weirdness about a ban on the skull and crossbones symbol. It's not even banned in Germany, although known Nazi symbols are.

They'll say "Israel" but you know and I know that even without this shit today they'd be quiet about it.
Because, of course, absolutely nothing has happened today that might be more important than which technocrat gets to govern a stable, safe country where nobody is in fear of bombs raining down on them.
Is a 'technocrat' a halfway competent politician not enamoured of delusional bullshit?

A "pivotal moment" for Israel as Andrew England calls it in the FT,
"the biggest challenge to Israel since 1973" as Bethan McKernan calls it in the Guardian,
"the most significant military challenge to Israel in 50 years" as Bel Trew calls it in the Independent.

Basically that's what the journalists are saying.
Government and opposition figures are saying the usual, that Israel has a right to defend itself.

Netanyahu was trying to whack the judiciary, a branch of the state that presumably he wants to find him not guilty in his corruption trial.

That's all out the window now. Yair Lapid rather than opposing is saying he'll serve in a GONU, which he may well soon do. And he means under Netanyahu. One thing's for certain: Netanyahu is not about to do what Peter Carrington did wrt the Falklands.

It also benefits Iran, which also has a mutinous populace, now distracted by war abroad. And it benefits Shia Muslim jihadists everywhere, fearful that Israel was about to make a long term peace with Sunni Saudi Arabia

The people it really DOES not benefit are the raped, kidnapped and murdered Israelis of today, and the thousands of Gazans who will die in the weeks ahead. What a black, tragic, horrible mess

No I don't live in Scotland, but my mother is Glaswegian and I have a lot of Scottish relatives, so I'm well aware of what a cancer sectarianism is and I don't find it funny or acceptable in any circumstances. That it still goes on is a disgrace for Scottish football and the whole country.

Logs. Never really cared for the teacakes.

The people it really DOES not benefit are the raped, kidnapped and murdered Israelis of today, and the thousands of Gazans who will die in the weeks ahead. What a black, tragic, horrible mess

The woman whose body was seen on video in the back of a pick-up truck driven by Palestinian terrorists to Gaza has been identified.

30-year-old Shani Louk was a German citizen visiting Israel to attend the music festival for peace held near the Gaza border fence.

The hair and physique matches, tragically. So she wasn't even a soldier, nor an Israeli, just a random tourist and beautiful young woman that they raped, mutilated, and murdered. And then they paraded her half naked corpse in a truck, as they spat on it and chanted Allahu Akhbar

God is Great? Really? Do you think God wants you to do that to an innocent young woman? Does that make your God even greater?

This has been going on for some decades. Since the 1980's(?) the Unionists and Republicans have separated on Israel/Palestine grounds. The (Irish) Republicans saw an analogy between the Plantation of Ulster and the building of Israeli settler towns in the Palestinian territories, or even the establishment of Israel. The inevitable sortition followed.

[EDIT: I see @Alanbrooke got there before me. Must type faster :) ]
    Ascendancy.

For the Irish republicans of that epoch and in the 1970s the feeling of solidarity with the Palestinians was also about belonging to a movement half of which was in prison.

In the 1960s the fellow feeling was with the civil rights movement in the USA, and the loyalists were Jim Crow fans.

It may just be a negative reporting feedback loop, but it does kind of feel as though the world is slipping back into one of much more overt and simplistic state actions and reactions, including as seen in the last few years open wars of conquest with only the barest figleaf of other motivations. Like an amount of pretence is being removed from our system, which some might argue makes things more honest, but it also reducing the ability to even diplomatically realpolitikally not respond, as there is no cover for that.

    Blimey. Pence has woken up.

Finally. Some kick-back from the GOP against the Cult from someone not named Mitt or related to Dick Cheney.

(Looks up the number of that NZ headhunter that made contact last year...)

Look, we'll all be fine once AI doctors come in along with drone surgeons and the like.

Yes, a lot of people are going to die from early bugs with the systems, but in the long run that may be less than the number dying from bugs spread by human staff, and the 24/7 nature of the treatment will see overall efficiency gains viz a viz all the suffering from long waits and inability to speak to a physician.
It will be genuinely interesting to see how the placebo effect works, if at all, with Robodoc as opposed to the Drs Foxies.
Some people completely buy into AI or even just computer systems being completely correct, even when obviously wrong, so could be a positive effect, remarkably.
I was wondering that, too. Some folk might think it great - others will be the opposite.

I do wonder if Robodoc will be so easily wheedled into prescribing unnecessary antibiotics, etc. etc.
  • On that Israeli intelligence failure: Here’s a stray thought: Perhaps one of the reasons for it was Edward Snowden’s theft of America’s secrets. I have been reading Edward Jay Epstein’s book on the theft and he concludes that Snowden definitely made us — and our friends and allies — more vulnerable to terrorists by revealing many of our secrets.
    https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/547346/how-america-lost-its-secrets-by-edward-jay-epstein/

Unless America's secrets included the names of all Mossad's agents in Iran and Gaza, it seems a stretch.

I know the history, but at this late stage it is utterly wanky and cringe

I guess Celtic (and Rangers) have the excuse that they are mere football fans, a group of people not known for their maturity. It is worse from Sinn Fein, an actual governing party
Says the very mature bloke whose first reaction to a flare up in the Israel Palestine conflict was to parse the response of the leader of the SNP and find it wanting.
That really was not my first reaction to the Hamas thing. More like my 3.498th

I've been commenting on this all day (go see). I'm having a binge on PB

    Back to work tomorrow
Ok well I'll have to take your word for that. I just dropped in a few hours ago and it was 'Bartholomew' going full bore Melanie Phillips on the whole thing and you intensely involved with the rather esoteric Humza Yousaf angle. Scared me off.

I hadn't realised it was so simple. Thank you for enlightening me.
Look at the videos. Women and children were cheering the attacks.

Same as with post-9/11, where there were women and children cheering the attacks.

Being a women doesn't make you innocent you know.
Well, if the US were more even-handed in the dispute, the Palestinians wouldn't have cheered 9/11.
Oh yes, sorry the US was asking for 9/11....

They should take a leaf out of your guys’ book.

The fact you felt the need to respond to that with whataboutism says a lot about you.

Basically far too many Celtic and Rangers supporters are hateful morons. Scottish football in Glasgow is still a cesspit. It reflects badly on the city and country.
Sorry, I forgot that only gammony old reactionaries who don’t live in Scotland are allowed to expostulate on Scottish football on PB.
Also interested to be told that Rangers fans have a fetish for Prussian uniforms c. 1870. That badge looked a lot more modern to me, but what do I know? I'm not a fitba-mad weegie. Or fitba mad anything.
Wouldnt worry about it, its just a function of Scotlands failing education system.
I'm struck by the notion that one needs to have Highers in What Glaswegian Football Team to Support and Why, as well. That went out of the window decades ago, so if it is 'failing' that's fine with me.
    Phhh

    Modern Scotland - no ambition

any way here's a scotsman wearing a totenkopf hussar cap

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_von_Mackensen

To revert to Sunil's question, I checked a dim memory and there is indeed a Star of David Ulster flag. Not familiar with the ins and outs though.

    https://news.yahoo.com/kaleidoscope-flags-marks-belfasts-sectarian-fault-lines-104446992.html
I accept you are a slow learner or maybe missed the reply to Sunil

But it is a white six point star one for each county nothing to do with the star of David.

On the other hand maybe you just believe the Jews The Jews they control everything.
Have a look at the photo. And jno, I don't believe that about the Jews.
FFS youre now reduced to needing pictures

Israeli star blue with two overlapping triangles
NI star black outline white interior with big red hand
I said look at the picture. It's in the link, but maybe they didn't include that in P2.
that would be the picture you didnt identify and the link you didnt provide ?

Ill put it down to Scotland no longer does education.

I recognise the Totenkopf, but what's 936 mean?
    https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/rangers-launch-investigation-hit-out-27821614
Thanks. Still doesn't explain the 936, unless it is a numerological thing = ICF which might be Inter-City Firm for want of any better guess.
Yes: 936 means ICF means Inter-City Firm.

Bonus question: which ICF came first - Rangers or West Ham?

As for the skull, is it really a Nazi reference or is it a reference to freemasonry, perhaps even Templar flavoured. This is Rangers after all.

The Skull and Bones at Yale call themselves Order 322, a reference to the year BCE that Demosthenes died.

The Totenkopf is a cap badge from a Prussian Hussar regiment
That's recent compared to the use of the S&C in Scotland.

Perhaps the hardest nuts among Rangers supporters can keep the skull (an ugly symbol), and when Extinction Rebellion update the diagonal lines of their hourglass they can turn them into crossbones. That's if Elon Musk doesn't beat them to it by going steampunk when he rebrands his X.

The greater evil here - Hamas - needs to be defeated.

In the same way that Ukraine was easy for the Russians to crush?

The woman whose body was seen on video in the back of a pick-up truck driven by Palestinian terrorists to Gaza has been identified.

30-year-old Shani Louk was a German citizen visiting Israel to attend the music festival for peace held near the Gaza border fence.

That’s incredibly sad. Innocent people always pay the price .
Yes, and likely to do so again:

"A very long line of Israeli tanks is heading south. Local media say the start of a ground offensive into Gaza is imminent. Israeli PM earlier warned Palestinian to leave Gaza saying the country’s army will turn Gaza into 'ruined islands.'"

Gaza is one of the most crowded parts of the world. There is no place for the 2 million inhabitants to go to.
Their fault. They back Hamas and they provide the foot soldiers.

    You reap what you sow.
You could say that regarding Israel's refusal to brook Palestinian independence.
Why grant independence to a people / nation whose whole intention is to destroy you?

After all, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was very happy backing Hitler in World War II because of Hitler's hatred towards the Jews.

Hey, but if you want to back the Grand Mufti's ideological successors, that is up to you....

You've just called a whole nation of people genocidalists, offering as your premise the fact that 80 years ago a British-appointed religious official who had the same nationality became pro-Nazi. If that's not hate speech, I don't know what is.

Out of interest, what would your attitude be nowadays if you yourself were Palestinian, let's say living in Gaza or the West Bank?

Sunil_Prasaman asked: "Does Israel recognise the right of a Palestinian state to exist?"

And if they did, would that change your mind on anything?

(As everyone should know, the Israelis have repeatedly begun negotiations that could have led to a two-state solution. As everyone should know, Hamas, unlike the PLO, has never even discussed the possibility.

American diplomats have tried hard for such a solution, perhaps mistakenly after Hamas took control of Gaza.)
