Am interested to hear the opinion of Tories on here. Is Liz Kendall really very impressive? I can't work out if I'm just biased, but I just can't see her connecting with people.
On the benefits question all candidates managed to dissatisfy the audience. And now a resignation question. Kendall says YES she will resign if she doesn't do a good job.
There's something quite confrontational about Yvette - it's like she's trying to put down the questioner by turning their genuine concerns into something extreme and unreasonable sounding. She did it with the guy about immigration "So you want to stop all immigration?" and now with the lady who doesn't get benefits.
It may be a way to think you've won an argument, it doesn't win you any friends.

I thought she was very good in that famous Andrew Neil interview, but have been unimpressed since. Tonight she's seemed very aggressive and hectoring.
Most disappointed in her. She's saying some sensible stuff - but it's very waffly and doesn't seem thought out. I don't get the impression she's got three things that matter to her.

One thing I still like about Liz is the way she refers back to the origins of the Labour movement. She has a lot of the Protestant work ethic about her.
This Labour Leadership Debate is DIRE, DIRE AND MORE DIRE.
Did the conservatives really win this seat, as there doesn't seem to be any in the audience?
If the BBC have fixed this audience again, then they should get an absolute kicking.
I would think that the audience is made up of Labour party members since they are the only ones who can vote in this election.
But if any of these want to be PM then they have to win back tory voters, which is why I questioned the lack of them in the audience. It's just Labour talking to themselves again.
Dan Hodges appears to be saying that the hustings was a disaster for Labour!
Dan Hodges was pretty much on the money about Labour between 2010 and 2015 (*), and he got pilloried for it. Perhaps it is time people started listening to him a little more carefully.
(*) And, even more unusually, he seems to have been right for the right reasons.

There were questions from a fireman who voted UKIP, and a swing voter who voted Tory, so this was not a purely Labour audience.
Ms Kendall, speaking during a live TV debate on BBC Two tonight, said voters did not trust Labour with the economy and people's taxes and were angry about illegal migrants 'climbing into lorries in Calais'.
She also vowed to give the party the chance to sack her if she was on course to lose the next election in 2020. Ms Kendall's leadership rival Andy Burnham - the early bookies favourite to succeed Ed Miliband - also pledged to make it easier to remove the Labour leader if he is elected.
Mr Osborne as a superhero equipped with a magical toolbox, a divinity of limitless powers. Is there anything the great-earth mover cannot do?
He lays roads. He decrees bridges. He drives gleaming tunnels through the packed clay-beds of ancient cities. He sends new trains hurtling towards vibrant townships at record speeds. The titan of Tatton has only to raise his little finger and – behold! – brand new factories spring up from brownfield wastelands. State-of the-art hospitals soar into the clouds. Industrial parks begin to throb and heave with energy.
Mike Smithson @MSmithsonPB 2m2 minutes ago In 2010 just 8.5% of LAB members gave Andy Burnham their first choice - tonight we found out why. He's a loser.
I think there are going to be polls wih Corbyn ahead before he loses the actual one...
Corbyn was articulate but unelectable. Labour sub 150 seats with him in charge, but a good chance of an LD revival with him in charge of Labour.
Kendall needs to be a bit more specific on what she means when she talks of policies that arise from Labour values. Shooting sacred cows needs a certain courage but is not likely to win friends.
Cooper was as flat as a pancake and in deficit denial.
Burnham a bit of a curates egg, but the only believable PM. Rightly the favourite.

Harsh from ogh.
May be true, as I didn't view the event I can't judge.
From comments not a wide choice of viable options .
Since voter participation in america is so low I suspect that a Trump and Oprah ticket would win based only on the numbers of fans who watch their shows.
Celebrity Media dominant political systems have consequences.
Britain doesn't have celebrities and does not have a presidential system, if it was Ben Elton would have been El Presidente for life of the UK.

I only saw 10 mins but I saw no reason why he was the clear favourite.
Seriously, guys. Corbyn cannot become Labour leader. Think of the country. We need a sensible and credible Opposition. You'd have to be as tribal a Tory as a football fan to seriously want this to happen.
Or a Labour voter who puts purity before votes. Also known as a plonker.

I thought Burnham came across quite well, but not sure if his passion and down-to-earth-ness might be perceived as being too lightweight to the general public.
I really want some detailed focus groups to be carried out on swing voters on whether Yvette or Andy comes across better to them, because although I have a slight personal preference for Andy, I mainly want the one of them who has the best chance of winning. (Won't be voting for Liz even if by some freak of nature she comes across best to swing voters.)

Some minor changes to the HS2 phase 1 scheme, plus news that it is on track for construction to start in 2017. Parliamentary business ahead ...
Forgot to mention - on Monday went from London to Birmingham via the GWR line branching off at Swindon through Kemble and Stroud, then via Gloucester and Cheltenham
Paul Richards @Labourpaul 13m13 minutes ago Eastbourne CLP has done a STV ballot. Burnham beats Cooper by 1 in 3rd round. For deputy, Watson wins in third round.
Not sure that Eastbourne with it's (presumably) minuscule amount of Labour members will be too representative, mind!

Quite a roundabout route. I suppose that's one way of getting extra capacity on the WCML!

I had wanted to do the line from Oxford through Evesham to Worcester, but missed the relevant train at Paddington by a few minutes! Going via Cheltenham was my back-up plan! Still, yet another line marked as "done" on my Baker Atlas
I just caught Cooper's answer to the Sturgeon question. The comment about smashing the final glass ceiling by electing a Labour woman Prime Minister is distinctly odd after we had a woman Prime Minister for 11 years. Is she saying that the Labour party is inherently more discriminatory than the Tories so it's more of a glass ceiling to rise to the top as a woman in Labour?
also, those lamenting the poor quality of the Labour leadership contenders, it's a shame none of the Lib Dem leadership hustings are going to be televised. Last Friday's hustings in Southampton was packed (overflowed into another room - over 200 people) and electrifying. Both Lamb and Farron were streets ahead of any of the Labourites. I know I am a Lib Dem, but even making allowance for any bias, genuinely much higher calibre candidates and much less politician speak.

Are any of the Labour leadership contenders star quality. Or even close?
I'd normally heartily agree with you, but can't get over the shits and giggles a Corbyn led labour party would provide.
Corbyn won it for me, at least he seemed to be genuine.
