The Green party will field parliamentary candidates in almost 95 per cent of seats in England and Wales, it emerged yesterday.
The selection of 535 candidates represents a major leap from the slate of 335 people that the party fielded in 2010. Almost 40 per cent of all Green candidates are women, a higher proportion of female representation than the other main Westminster parties.
Mmmm.... lost deposits...
PS you can still get evens with betfair sportsbook on the Greens holding fewer than 20% of deposits. Should probably be 1/3.
But since I'm on at 8/1 I'll leave the evens for anyone else who wants it /smugmode
How is our Pandas bet looking?
I've had worse bets.
PS "Clegg only" @ 25/1 in their "which of Farage/Clegg/Salmond will be MPs" might appeal.
Reviewing my portfolio, my top stinker(s)
Lib Dems to win 51 to 60 seats and 61 to 70 seats at 10/1 and 20/1 respectively.

You have to Vote Tory now.
Looks like thanks to the Scots, we're going to experience partition in this country.
Labour have a disastrous record when it comes to partitioning countries.
Vote Tory to spare us a re-run of 1947
Nothing is stopping an English party - Tory, Liberal, Labour, doesn't matter - offering a Velvet Divorce. The Czech example says that this is the way to deal with it.
This story will make Ed more popular. Seriously, the man gets lots of top totty. Who won't admire that.
Indeed. Either people will not care at all, or they'll think attempting to make political capital out of such things is pathetic, or as you say, they might well admire him. He's clearly not that awkward or weird it would seem.
@jonwalker121: Polling suggests Labour's non-doms policy is popular but listening to @Douglas4Paisley it seems Lab not really abolishing it outright #bbcqt
Exactly. They said that yesterday. They are not abolishing it at all, because that would cost money (Ed Balls was right)
It really was a great move. I am certain most people will only retain that they think Labour will be abolishing them, and the Tories jumped in to defend their rich mates. The ins and outs of the policy will skate by unnoticed.
If the Tories do form the next government it's going to be one hell of a ride. There'll be the EU referendum and permanent confrontation with Scotland. Dull, it won't be.
Whoever forms the next government, it's going to be one hell of a ride.
- permanent confrontation with Scotland - the EU will be a source of angst, regardless of any referendum - an Islamist atrocity or two - Russia tweaking Nato's tail in one of the Baltic States
Personally, I could do with a bit more dullness......
TSE - you haven't been listening to what I've been saying about the economy recently. Since May of last year I've been saying that the start of October is the top in the global sovereign debt market and the start of the sovereign bond crisis. And I've been bullish on US equities for quite a fair while as well as the US Dollar - wake up my friend!
Mark Pack @markpack Follow Harriet Harman asked if Labour should be tougher than Tories on benefits: "I'm happy to go along with that" #BritainDecides
Those baby eating labour bast**ds ;-)
The great thing for Labour is that they can say that, but they surely know party impressions are pretty fixed for most of us, so they will still be the party that looks after people on benefits. So fortunate.
Need to wait for YG tables, but ComRes partially rescues the Tories, in that Labour's lead in part-ELBOW for the week so far goes down from 2.5% to... 2.2%.

Doing their bit to reduce the deficit after all, then.
Another great poll for the SNP tonight - let's hope its a SLAB meltdown of epic proportions, and they're deservedly reduced to less than 6 seats.
Very much with the phone pollsters, the weightings earlier on today with the internet polls as pointed out here earlier are crazy, particularly those with 18-34 weighted at 4/3rds of the over 60 voters. That's just crazy when you consider voter turnout and voter registration combined. Enjoyable seeing the Tories in panic mode earlier on today though - it does pay to have a look at the details behind a poll before running to immediate judgement!

Top totty ? Each to their own I suppose...
The term "top totty" is more "acceptable but more who they know" than "good looking".
So the girlfriend was droning on about Marxist economics and the bit on the side was boring off about human rights - spending an evening with McDoom doesn't seem that bad in hindsight...

That sort of sound bite was proberly heard in leftwing Scotland from new labour to milibands lot ;-)
Main 5 party candidates only standing in Romsey & Southampton North - it's going to be UKIP through gritted teeth for me or spoiling my ballot paper depending on what mood I'm in on the morning of May 7th!
I take your point - the kiss of death from Hodges. The Jonah Brown effect...
But usually debates are draws. Assuming the poll has some back up it is really an incredible result. The rise of Davidson is as well. What does it say for Murphy?
Still, 'who the gods destroy' and all that...
Lets just pause for a moment and think. If Labour lose Scotland want to offer England something in return for the inevitable SNP blackmail - will all we get from them be balkanisation? Is this not another valid reason for voting Tory. I do not see labour giving England as a nation anything like independence. I do not see the SNP allowing it either.
Have Tonne Twenty on Mili in this market with Hills.
I don't think so. I expect DC or EM to be PM until at least 2016 (or a second election). To put in an "unelected" PM within 6 months would be epically brave.
Now for the Question Time car crash to top off Black Thursday.
One stupid sentence from Fallon has totally derailed the Tory campaign and Liz Truss now having to eat a shit sandwich on QT defending the stupid old fart.

Another Kipper Candidate is living up to Cameron's maxim about twitter
UKIP’s candidate in Eastleigh has apologised after mistakenly saying a Liberal Democrat candidate contracted HIV on purpose.
Patricia Culligan had posted a message on social media site Twitter in response to a Daily Mail article about Paul Childs, a candidate in Liverpool.
It said “2nd Lib Dem candidate reveals he deliberately became HIV positive yet free NHS care v costly”, but Mr Childs had not intentionally contracted the illness

and you can add to that:
- global sovereign bond crisis starting in October, higher interest rates in UK and all that entails - Chilcott enquiry report (whitewash likely courtesy of Jeremy Heywood) - VIP paedophile ring report (another whitewash as the Royal family is completely protected and likely a lot of people still alive won't be collared as they should be)
This is truly the best UK election to lose of ALL time.

Stephanie Flanders could fill both roles, moaning Marxist and Human Rights bore.
Was up in Farron country at the weekend - quite a few Tory posters in the countryside on farming estates but overwhelming golden diamonds everywhere.....and 1 Labour poster. Like other PB'ers, outside of Westmorland & Lonsdale, it was noticeable the lack of posters elsewhere. You really wouldn't think there was an election 4 weeks today in parts of the country.

The south of England has suddenly become Kuwait at the same time as the North Sea oil is drying up. That will impact the SNP's negotiating hand in the future.

Expect demands for reparations for all the oil money wasted down south.
Yes, sad news about Richie Benaud, I don't think test match commentary will be quite the same again without 'morning Richie' from Geoff Boycott, but nonetheless he will be remembered for a huge contribution to the game
Alistair In your opinion, he took over Scottish Labour at its nadir, he will not be able to fully rebuild until after the election
A full recovery might've been a tall order, but surely they should've made some progress under Murphy, or what was the point? When he took over he predicted that, once he'd sorted them out, Labour wouldn't lose a single seat to the SNP. So he can't now claim it was always an impossible task.

No longer really into Cricket (though I was 20 years ago!), but RIP Richie Benaud.
Same thoughts, I remember many summers spent listening to Ritchie. Not sure how today's youth will fall into cricket with it being on premium channels and without widespread coverage.

Hands off Englands Oil!
We need an English National Party to use that slogan, maybe UKIP is up to it. If the SNP did it in Scotland with "hands of our oil" why not the ENP?
rullko Well he had to say that didn't he, but the Scots seem to want to send SNP MPs to protect Scottish interests and ensure promises of more powers are kept, Holyrood next year will be a different matter and more on the SNP's record, while in 2020 if Labour loses they will have a better UK leader too
The south of England has suddenly become Kuwait at the same time as the North Sea oil is drying up. That will impact the SNP's negotiating hand in the future.
Nah the yanks will invade to bring you truth, democracy and the American way etc. Then pollute the south coast as revenge for the Gulf,

The easiest seat for the SNP from Labour still has a 5000ish majority.
Dair Indeed, which is why sadly you have to fork out for Sky for the full experience, with perhaps Test Match Special commentary in the background, night
Disappointing to learn the Tories aren't committing to 2% on defence spending, especially after Dave said other NATO members should do the same. I wonder if this figure includes the cost of Trident renewal?
Those of us who patiently pointed out that Murphy was a crushing liability to Labour now see that he has achieved the virtually impossible in Scotland - coming behind a Tory!
TWO QUESTIONS
Can the usual suspects on this site explain how they can be so out of touch with Scottish opinion.
Does anyone in the "Scottish" press corps of Murphy lovers ever have any self awareness on how out of touch they are with Scottish opinion.
Alternatively perhaps we should leave you alone, telling each other why the public are wrong and you lot are really much much wiser.
Murphy looks and sounds like a weird bully. The idea that any electorate never mind a Scottish one energised and activated by the Referendum would find his approach to politics one iota of attractive is an insult to the intelligence.
