Isn't her husband seriously ill ?
Yes cancer, but she and Trump don't seem to be seeing eye-to-eye either.

Can you believe Bernie once fell in behind her Dem Presidency bid.

I think we need to get making.

The British army is fully with fancy dress outfits for prancing around at Horse Guards for three upcoming Saturdays.
A bearskin hat cost £2000. An Octopus interceptor drone, made in the UK, costs £2000.

JD Wetherspoon is set to open its first ever pub in London’s Theatreland district, with a new West End mega-boozer taking over part of what was once the Trocadero.

The pub will be known as Piccadilly Hall, named in tribute to the original Piccadilly/Pikadilly Hall – the 17th century mansion that gave its name to Piccadilly Circus. It will open at 30 Shaftesbury Avenue – most recently home to the now-shuttered Coyote Ugly bar.

    https://www.timeout.com/london/news/londons-iconic-trocadero-is-being-turned-into-one-of-the-citys-biggest-wetherspoons-pubs-052126

Spoons has an interesting USP. Their margins are low so they rely on volume sales, oh and dole boys getting pissed at 9 am.
I wouldn’t go into a Wetherspoons if you paid me ! Full of Reform voters !
I doubt the 9.00am drinkers vote.

I hear one can buy a pint and a full English breakfast or a pint and a curry for mere pennies depending on the time of day.

    Sounds vile.
I shall be having a full Scottish breakfast and a pint soon after 11 tomorrow morning.
The main benefits of Spoons are:
    a) no music;
    b) no TV;
    c) cheap because not paying for music or TV.

understands Miliband held secret talks with Streeting in the days leading up to his resignation from the Cabinet.

The bears are actually culled in Canada, because if there are too many of them. And without culling, they destroy the habitat.

The bearskin hats are made from a small portion of the annual culls.

Took the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe and spent two nights in Rouen. Wasn't impressed. Glad to get back home.

Since then I've been to almost every European country, most US states, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, etc etc. I've avoided the subcontinent for the simple reason that if they all want to come here why would I want to go there? They must know something.

But I've never found anywhere better on Earth than the Forest of Arden on a summer evening (this evening, for example).

This winter I'm off to the Galapagos. They say the turtle soup is to die for (if you're a turtle, obvs.).

I appreciate that Miliband is a senior member of the labour party, and thus pretty much an idiot by definition, but of all the jobs in the government, why on earth would he want to be chancellor?
Being chancellor in the current climate means choosing between:
    a) Borrowing more and upsetting the bond markets - Truss MK2
    b) Taxing more, and upsetting the country - Reeves Mk2
    c) Spending less, and upsetting the PLP - Sort of Reeves/SKS MK2, except they chickened out because they were going to be voted down

There's no scope spend any more, or cut any taxes, which are what you normally do to make yourself popular as a Chancellor - it's just woe toil and misery wherever you look - it has to be the single worst brief in government right now.

Exclusive is a word which has lost all meaning in news reporting. Even for those who use it legitimately so many do not, it's just a clickbait word, that now I actively assume any 'exclusive' probably isn't and am just as likely to scroll past.

I think there was that exclusive story from an american gossip website about how Prince Charles was ready to take the throne, and even saw it as his birthright.

Top tip. The best thing I have learnt in my life. If you have a mosquito bite pour boiling water onto the back of a teaspoon then press the spoon immediately on the bite. Stops the itching permanently. Something to do with it stopping the amino acids that cause the itching or something. No need for thanks.

Keir Starmer’s allies believe Ed Miliband is at the centre of a plot to topple him from power by working with Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham.

    @Telegraph
understands Miliband held secret talks with Streeting in the days leading up to his resignation from the Cabinet.

Sources close to Miliband strongly deny that he encouraged his colleague to resign — but it is not disputed that they spoke about Streeting’s frustration with Starmer.

There is also talk that Miliband hopes to install himself as Chancellor if Starmer is forced to step aside.

Not the most convincing of explanations.

.."Right now we're doing a pause in order to make sure we have the munitions we need for Epic Fury - which we have plenty," Cao said at the hearing on Thursday, using the code name for the US-Israel joint military operation in Iran.
"We're just making sure we have everything, but then the foreign military sales will continue when the administration deems necessary."
When asked what he had heard from the Taiwanese about a pause in the weapons sale, Cao said he had "not spoken to the Taiwanese"..
Trump can’t say he’s quietly sold Taiwan out in his meeting with Xi so some other story is required no matter how implausible
Xi knows "The Art of the Deal".

Trump will shaft Taiwan simply because he can. He has no ideology of morality.
Trump like any worthy New York hood most likely arranged some kind of secret side hustle with the Chinatown mafia boss over Taiwan at their meeting.
The PRC are going to get the renegade province back eventually anyway, so DJT probably thinks he might as well make a quid off the inevitable.

It's not like his Persian misadventure where he has to do what the Zionist Entity tells him to great detriment of just about everything.
Cuba next. This explains Lil' Marco taking so much shite from Trump. The ink on Raul Castro's arrest warrant is dry so we will have to go in Maduro-like to get him back. Boots on the ground will be inevitable. We can't really complain about China invading Taiwan under such circumstances.
Vance might object though because toppling Cuba is Rubio's path to the White House.

On Taiwan, probably this is Don's quid pro quo for China leaning on Iran to reopen the Strait, which itself benefits China.
And one thing that does not matter in this brave new world of gangster states and gangster leaders, are the thousands and thousands of people who will be directly slaughtered by the United States and China. Not to mention the thousands who will die indirectly due to economic warfare and damage.

Collateral damage I think it's called. Or acceptable losses.

There are some reports on Twitter that a charity may possibly have been campaigning for Andy Burnham, which apparently is illegal.

It will be interesting if there are legal issues with it as the same organisation has been active in many election campaigns.
    Which charity?
    Hope not Hate.
Well there you go. That's on-mission and intra-vires.
The last thing we need is charities getting into political campaigning.

That will turn into an ocean of soft money, American style, used to buy elections.

£5 million bungs is bad enough. And that needs treading on. Otherwise, the next one will be £50 million and buy an election outright.
Hope Not Hate though - they have to campaign against the Ghastlies. Special case.
    Really?

“It’s ok. These people are good” is how it starts.

Let that go through and the Peter Thiel funded “Rational Immigration” charity will be campaigning for Restore. On the reopening of Shark Island as a deportation camp for immigrants. With a £50 million budget.
A charity can only campaign (in politics) against what is indisputably bad (like racism). Theil could try that but he'd be struck down imo.
I've had chats with our local HnH bod. Their literature says they campaign against Reform and the Far Right. They know they can't endorse one party for election (and maybe Charity) law reasons, as well as possibly adding an election expense onto a candidate , merely referring voters to the various tactical voting websites. I think someone has worked out the many snags and steered a path through.

Still if ReFuk objects it is up them to start a legal challenge - they should have enough crypto to afford it.
Yes that's what I was thinking. Against *that* (and therefore them) not for Lab or Con or LD etc. It's another Reform whinge basically. They're always at it.
The letter being shared on social media from Hope not Hate isn't that though. It explicitly says its a two horse race between Labour and Reform UK, only Andy Burnham for Labour can do this, that and the other "good" things, Reform will do all these "bad" things. Their "get out" I guess, is it doesn't say vote Andy Burnham, it says vote for positive change, don't vote for Reform, but the only positive change being described is Andy Burnham.

If this is the line we are allowing to be trend, that is getting very close to American PAC type activity before the Citizen United case blew up in the face of those who brought it. The Citizen United cased did the opposite of what the people bringing it wanted, they already thought the sort of thing Hope Not Hate letter did was over the line, where in the US you could have similar organisations on the left and right say there is this big issue in this election, candidate A stands for it, yeahhhhhh, candidate B stands against it, boooooo, but never said "Vote Candidate A", but just to make clear Candidate B is really bad.
HNH's mission statement is to combat the organised far right in all its forms, the policies that give succour to it, in the places most susceptible.

Hence the letter. Ok, so Reform don't like it. That's understandable. But, you know, diddums. If it's illegal they know what to do. I doubt it is but of course I could be wrong. In any case it's hardly one step away from superPACs.

Tbh I rarely see merit in 'slippery slope' arguments. In my experience it's often a technique employed to mask partisanship on the issue at hand.
If that really is their mission statement it’s not clear to me that they should be a charity at all
Looks like a good cause to me. Certainly beats Eton College on the 'benefiting society' front. Anyway they are, so it's presumably passed the test.

But opinion noted. I'll put you down for zero pounds.
    A good cause doesn’t equal a charity.

And Eton does a huge amount outside of the school that it is best known for
Eton is one of very few private schools who actually do a fair amount of work locally for “charity” and they’ve done it for a long time
Also they are investing £100m in education in the north. Or were planning to until Labour stopped the project because apparently the Star Academies were going to be too attractive to the best students

Dozens of staff members at the University of Nottingham have taken to the picket line ahead of a 61-day strike over drastic cuts to the workforce. The initial day of industrial action on Friday (May 22) comes before University and College Union members are proposing to strike for 61 days from Monday, June 1, to Friday, July 31.

The strike action was called by the union as the university plans to cut more than 700 jobs and shut down more than 40 degree courses, including modern languages and music.

What’s their alternative plan to pay the bills?
They plan to slash the department that gave the world MRI scanners.

    Madness for UK plc.
40 years ago? Is it still value added?
I believe the uni still gets royalties.

That wasn’t the point - does the department justify its existence today vs based on the achievements of prior generations? (I have no idea either way and no position)

If Burnham wants the NHS to run social care he will have to nationalise 1000s of small care agencies.

Not necessarily. Those agencies could contract to supply services, as do doctors, pharmacists, dentists and opticians.
Why is that better than local councils doing it as they do now? Funding and delivery are not the same question and I’m not sure I see the value added by another big government organisation.

He could set up a nationalised governing body that acts as an umbrella standardisng care, boosting skills and qualifications and crucially purchasing in bulk to save costs.

CQE does the skills and qualifications plus standardisation thing

The majority of the costs in the care system are labour and utilities. Bulk purchasing doesn’t help much with those.

Having embarrassed his firm so badly, there must surely be questions about whether he himself might be "transitioned", possibly by means of a P45
Share price has done really well since he took over, so nah.

More fundamentally - a poorly phrased comment expressing a real truth shouldn’t be the reason for sacking someone
Its hypocritical of course... "our biggest asset is our people" is almost always self serving bullshit.

Keir Starmer’s allies believe Ed Miliband is at the centre of a plot to topple him from power by working with Wes Streeting and Andy Burnham.

    @Telegraph
understands Miliband held secret talks with Streeting in the days leading up to his resignation from the Cabinet.

Sources close to Miliband strongly deny that he encouraged his colleague to resign — but it is not disputed that they spoke about Streeting’s frustration with Starmer.

There is also talk that Miliband hopes to install himself as Chancellor if Starmer is forced to step aside.
    Who could have guessed?

I think we need to get making.

The British army is fully with fancy dress outfits for prancing around at Horse Guards for three upcoming Saturdays.
A bearskin hat cost £2000. An Octopus interceptor drone, made in the UK, costs £2000.
It costs the life of a bear.

    Disgusting.
I used to work with an atomic computing research group (this was before the UK research grants decided fundamental research wasn't worth funding) who got annoyed by the Met Office climate reports. So they developed a quite detailed model of how much CO2 the Met Office 'supercomputer' used. And how much CO2 contributed to the habitat loss of Polar Bears. And would email the met office people after every forecast with the number of "PicoBears" they had killed to produce it.

And some people say science isn't value for money. Sheesh.
Except in practice what we are finding is that the number of polar bears has increased not decreased as the ice melts so this was not a very accurate measure.
Exactly: the more polar bears there are the more that can die.

Ireland. We went to visit family friends in Cork. They were Argentinian and had had to leave the UK after the Falklands War. We took the ferry from Pemboke Dock and I remember watching dolphins jumping out of the water in front of the boat. If Ireland doesn't count I went to Spain a few years later with my mum to visit my grandparents who had retired to Mallorca. This was the first time I flew in a plane. My childhood was all a bit Boring Postcards. By the time my kids were the same age they had flown to Asia and the Americas multiple times, they are quite the jetsetters.

The credibility gap in that story is that Streeting clearly wants to be CofE so is hardly likely to cooperate with a plan to put EdM in there. Yes, it’s a difficult job, but to make it to PM the usual paths run either through the treasury or the foreign office ministries, and Streeting isn’t really qualified to be an FS.

Top tip. The best thing I have learnt in my life. If you have a mosquito bite pour boiling water onto the back of a teaspoon then press the spoon immediately on the bite. Stops the itching permanently. Something to do with it stopping the amino acids that cause the itching or something. No need for thanks.

Very hot tap water is sufficient. Boiling water will sometimes lead to scalds or burns.

It means you get to make the tough choices. Some people want that responsibility.

The worst brief will be the minister who has to make painful spending cuts because the chancellor won't let them do anything else.
Repeated polling evidence is that people will tolerate tax increases (even increaes that affect them) if they can see a clear link to what the purpose is and broadly approve of it. It's difficult to do because the Treasury is averse to tied taxes (why?), so people imagine that the extra money is going to whatever they like least. To address that one needs a good communicator, which Sir Keir sadly isn't really, and Andy B perhaps is.
