I'll tell you something weird. Apparently, the Flash and Green Arrow (from the series) will not be the same Flash and Green Arrow (either actors or continuity) when DC finally makes whatever its equivalent of the Avengers is. So, they'll have two parallel continuities for TV and film running.
Maybe it'll work, but Marvel's integrated approach with SHIELD seems far better to me.

John Francome tells of the time he was asked to give a horse 'an easy' to help lower the horse's handicap rating whilst the trainer worked out what it was capable of. We could have beaten the two in font, but I'm not sure about the two behind.'MarqueeMark said:

The dogs were always a good medium for shrewd punters. If you went regularly to the same track, as my Dad did, you got to know the form inside out and if you bet sensibly, you could easily outdo the bookies.
Although my family was unquestionably working class, we never went without and enjoyed many luxuries. It was all paid for by Clapton dogs !
Unfortunately, he was more often on the wrong end of such betting coups. I remember the jockey on one of the horses he owned telling him it could have won by ten lengths. When dad asked why it hadn't then, the answer was "I had orders not to win..."0 -

I got a tip from my brother on a bent dog at White City. This was 1974 and I had won £15 on a Yankee that afternoon, so had a fiver on it. Never forget it, was called Two PM, it was two lengths behind at the final bend but got up to win at 33/1. That was a good weekend....MarqueeMark said:

I stopped watching it a couple of years ago as it was a convoluted, inconsistent mess (I think it's made by some of the guys from Lost who contributed the crazy bits, but without the good characters, plots, acting or, no joke, understandable premise and continuity), but it's still going and just getting more unstructured.Morris_Dancer said:Mr. kle4, OUAT can't be all that popular. I could've sworn I read it wasn't picked up for whatever channel here was doing it.
I've always been a bit cold on Batman stuff (even though Arrow is basically Batman I'm told), so I figured I'd wait until the first season of Gotham was over, but it does seem promising. I've got a whole bunch DVR'd, maybe I should give it a try now there's enough to get past the slow start.
Eh, I'm a big fan of Arrow, and The Flash is fun, whereas Agent's of SHIELD is something that has always felt should be better than it is to me. It'll be fun to see how the short order series Marvel is coming up with play out.DaemonBarber said:

Apart from Season Two, there's not really been a bad series. It's hard to understand how one can be disappointed in Season 4. No doubt the carefully planned BBC/Guardian/Labour HSBC attack on the government will blow up their faces or disappear without trace like the last one - "NHS in winter crisis".
As this all happened on Labour's watch when the 2 Ed's were involved directly in running the economy, no matter how much the BBC & Labour try and pretend they weren't in government then, it won't wash.
Given its the tax haven based Guardian leading the media attack, and the tax optimised Maggie Hodge of Stemcorp leading the political assault, it will be hard to make it work for Labour.
On the broader strategic basis, Labour are going out far too early with their big attack lines on the Tories. They will either be turned against them, as I suspect will happen with the NHS, or bore the public to death and drift away. A sign to me of how desperate they are to try and change the big momentum shift to the Tories in the polls.
The Tories haven't used anything yet. Powder still bone dry.0 -

I'm safely removed from the delights of Basildon but work (or shopping) occasionally takes me out there. I previously lived in a rather more delightful corner of the Fens. At the weekends I could take a daytrip out to Ely or Huntingdon or St Ives or Norwich or, if I thought it was going to be reasonably quiet, one of the Norfolk tourist traps. One of the great disappointments of moving down to south Essex was realising I was now taking weekend trips to Basildon instead.isam said:

First walk around town, I saw a small ad card in a newsagent near the market (being carried at the expense of 50p/week I should think) lamenting "WHY DOES NOBODY WANT SOME GOOD OLD-FASHIONED SEXY FUN ANYMORE?" Poor sod was 40s, male, and optimistic enough to leave his mobile number in big, neatly-drawn numerals. What kind of loneliness and desperation can drive a man to this? Looking round the market crowds, the young orange-tinted lasses, tastefully not entirely naked due to whatever Primark assortment passed for their clothing (or lack thereof), led me to conclude the probable answer to his query was "they still do, but not with you mate". But I wouldn't give him a bell to tell him; to encourage independence of thought I decided to let him figure that out for himself. I wish I'd taken a picture of the ad now, but it was pre-smartphone days. Quite a sight, though.0 -

DC are pretty much fucked as their Rights are all over the place. Qute possibly, Mr Navabi, but that still doesn´t make them pro-Tory.Richard_Nabavi said:In addition, even if that weren't the case, the decision will be taken by the whole party, not just the MPs. The New Statesman article which antifrank dismisses (loftily, as is right and proper for a lawyer!) actually makes a very good point about the probable 2015 LibDem voters, as opposed to MPs.
And then there are the activists, who will have the key say. The Labour-lite ones have gone, have they not? So we should expect that the rump of the party is less left-wing, not more left-wing, than its 2010 counterpart.

So if the Tories continue today's momentum up in all 3 polls +2%, +2% +3% they will win on May 7th by 457% and gain all 2356 seats in Westminster.
On a more serious note, movement and momentum are punting keys. All three polls could be within margin of error, but all three in the same direction on the same day?

Mr. Dair, isn't there a conflict over Spiderman? I think Sony retain film-making rights if they utilise them every so often (hence the latest films).

The 100 does improve episode by episode. The 100's very enjoyable. Cheers for persuading me to stick with it when I was about to stop halfway through the first series. Now you mention it, the second is a bit darker.
Mr. kle4 (part two), Gotham's pretty good. Slow start, and Gordon's girlfriend is a muppet, but the Penguin's nigh on perfect.
It still suffers from this occasionally and the way they've gone from a "any crime is death" to "treason is a few lashes" is bizarre but its harder sci-fi than pretty much anything else on TV atm.0 -

Don't think you are right on that. My former partner's task was the production of a 3 minute film on promoting Scottish golf. It was shown live at the closing ceremony to an extimated world side audience of 600 million. It did cost some tens of thousands to make. Cost of buying that sort of advertising millions. Good value / bad value take your pick but that wasn't what Salmond was being accused of. He was accused of spending on himself which was patently ludicrous for anyone but those taken in (or who want to be taken in) by the NO supporting garbage press in Scotland.0 -

The NHS was only a big moment for Labour because the media told them and they probably believe their own hype.saddo said:No doubt the carefully planned BBC/Guardian/Labour HSBC attack on the government will blow up their faces or disappear without trace like the last one - "NHS in winter crisis".
Powder still bone dry.
But when Labour run the worst NHS is the UK and the NHS in England under the Tories and especially Scotland under the SNP have positive public perception of service levels they were not going to get a good deal of benefit.
Sure you can argue Labour were in bed with the big banks and did exactly the same as Cameron did with Green. But Banks don't have a positive rating, no-one things any other party is containing them. So there is the possiblity for Labour to benefit here.0 -
I wonder how many denizens of these lands realise that the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corporation aka HSBC is not an entirely British multinational. It's joint listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
That Irish Times piece makes for grim reading though.0 -

Very thorough though? They have even gotten the story breaking in places from Iowa to India.
It's all about the postal votes "doncha know"?0 -
You can say that about both Breaking Bad and Walking Dead - and based on episode 1 Better Call Saul as well - they are not fast paced, the story line per episode is fairly sparse, and it's all bargain basement budget, with mainly hand held camera work.Dair said:
I have a feeling that Season Two of The Walking Dead was originally supposed to be a 6 or 8 episode season (Seaons One was six) and when hte episode order was expanded they didn't really have enough story to fill. So there were... long.... slow.... shots.... where.... nothing.... happened. It would have been fine over 6 to 8 episodes.Morris_Dancer said:Mr. Dair, to be fair, season two did introduce Maggie. [That said, it was the weakest so far].

Marvel only suffer from not holding the Rights to the X-men. DC don't own the rights for Superman or Batman.
X-Men can largely be ignored.
You can't ignore the X Men in The Avengers cinematic universe.
Especially as Avengers can't mention the mutants, but in Age of Ultron, we've got Quicksilver and his sister, and their Daddy is well [redacted]
How they'll replace the unmasking of Spiderman i'm not so sure.
Spidey is overrated.

No, the Joker is an easter egg. While still owning her club, Fish was auditioning comedians (quite deliberately). I'm sure they'll work it in again through the show.Morris_Dancer said:Mr. B, you should wear something to let us know it's you. A morris dancer outfit, perhaps?
Mr. Gin, I hope you're right.
Mr. Dair, not a comic-reader, myself. Interesting that whilst most major villains (from films, anyway) are at least hinted at, there's zero on the Joker [perhaps a wise decision].0 -

Better Call Saul - encore of yesterdays' first episode this evening followed by episode 2.0 -
My interpretation is that the arc characters are still reeling from the situational change, hence the old Chancellor going a bit nutty imo, and all the confusion over trying to handle events on the ground the kids are actually better at handling, but it's a fair point - Cain has seemed totally different in the first episode of each season to his portrayal in the following episodes.Dair said:Morris_Dancer said:Mr. klect.
It still suffers from this occasionally and the way they've gone from a "any crime is death" to "treason is a few lashes" is bizarre but its harder sci-fi than pretty much anything else on TV atm.
I really like how they've kept the main characters still at the forefront with the 'adults' on the ground, but in a believable way in that the ones on the ground have been shaped into, well, badasses, who they don't know how to deal with.
I got the DVD of the first season the other day and at first was shocked it was rated an 18, and then I remembered all the things that happened and were actually shown...rarely has a show seemed so divergent from its own pilot to me, it was like that spear throw at the end of the first episode was to let everyone know - yeah, it ain't going be like you thought, kiddies - at the audience.
But I could talk about the show all night and must try not to bore people, so I shall shut up now.
It's already had more legs than I had predicted it would have, so I think they have a chance, but even though the Tories have lacked a lot of luck at times this parliament, given Labour have still failed to finish them off, I think they may continue to limp on, with Labour missing the chance once more.Dair said:

I'd forgotten about Spiderman, I don't read comics but love a good comic book movie. I try to avoid spoilers but have heard Spiderman rights are going to be negotiated.
