I think you'll find that the Cameroons will continue to piss off people from all sections. I cannot see the Tories keeping Cameron as leader after the election, especially if he'll need UKIP as a coalition partner to keep in business.MarkHopkins said:MikeK said:

Although Cameron's futile attempt to ban encryption (the US tried this before, it was a farce), does seem to be his attempt to find a demographic he hasn't p***ed off yet.0 -
I guess the idea is just to propose something about terrorism that people will talk about in case there's an attack before the election. There's no point in saying something sensible because everyone will just agree and the media will ignore it. To get it in the news he needed to say something completely mental.MarkHopkins said:MikeK said:

Hopefully he's retired or in a stable job. Putting that selection on your CV would be like advertising that you were the most useless person the Tories could find.Pulpstar said:

I reckon the head of the British Government's IT strategy/counter terrorism got the job the same way Jen got the job in the IT crowd.0 -
He's got quite a nifty website so it doesn't seem like he's a paper candidate in any sense.edmundintokyo said:

Either the Conservatives will do well or UKIP will do well. They can't possibly both do well. If UKIP have a significant number of MPs then it probably means that the Conservatives will have been absolutely slaughtered. I reckon, because of the way the vote splits, that for every 1 seat that UKIP gain the Conservatives would lose 7-10 seats. If UKIP come out the other side of the election in double figures then the Conservatives will very probably be back down to about 200 seats.MikeK said:

I continue to follow with interest NBC Sports Network's efforts to sell the Premier League to Americans.
Ratings are up, but from an incredibly low level. Part of the problem is the presentation - games start at 10am on weekends or mid-afternoon on a Monday or wednesday sometimes, Eastern. Nobody's going to watch that, and Americans don't like dvring sports, particularly when they probably know the result before they watch it.
NBCSN shows every EPL game every week, but few are live, so you have to consult your program guide to know when it's on. See above.
But they have come up with an interesting wrinkle - NBCSN now has a program called 'The Men in Blazers Show.' A 30 minute show, it airs weekly. Hosted by Roger Bennett and Michael Davies.
They take a humorous view - both are Brits wearing - yes - blazers. This week they gave game summaries in haiku, had a fan of the week segment, featured a nipple of the week competition when players lift their shirts in celebration, together with endless references as to which pitch looked most like Wayne Rooney's hair.
They also had a segment where they placed a microphone in the brain of Stevie G (I don't know who it is) and voiced in what sounded like a scouse accent his reasons for moving to the LA Galaxy, which was funny even to me. He's disappearing into a sports black hole. MLS is not mainstream sports here.
They also weave in NFL references, such as declaring a goal celebration as about as attractive as a Chris Christie touchdown celebration.
The show has reached the level that they got two sequential segments this week on the Dan Patrick Show, a radio show made by DirecTV, aired in 275 radio markets, and TV simulcast on - you guessed it - NBC Sports Network and DirecTV's Audience channel.
Maybe there's hope yet.0 -

It's going to be difficult for UKIP to win Labour seats because, even if they take more votes from Labour than the Tories in some constituencies, Labour will still be boosted by defections from the LDs in those seats.MikeK said:

It was estimated by someone that ukip cost the Tories 20 seats in GE2010. This time they will cost the Tories another 50 seats. So hang on to your hats for the socialist revival.Steven_Whaley said:

Those Labour targets are ~ 4-1 shots rather than the lower odds Tory targets though. Labour has alot of block vote up here, but Rother Valley/Rotherham will be close - I expect Labour to hold on though.AndyJS said:It's going to be difficult for UKIP to win Labour seats because, even if they take more votes from Labour than the Tories in some constituencies, Labour will still be boosted by defections from the LDs in those seats.

ComRes Green value definitely an outlier (3% v. average 6% polls this week)0

That may be - I have no information either way - but I saw a stat over the last weekend that 80% of the US population live in the eastern and central time zones - basically east of the Mississippi. I tried to find the link quickly but was unsuccessful. In percentage terms the Pacific Northwest isn't much of the US population. They do have the UK like climate though!Socrates said:@Tim_B
I've heard from several sources that soccer is now huge in the Pacific Northwest.
This shows both the opportunity and some of the issues...
http://www.ibtimes.com/us-soccer-does-mlss-growth-mean-there-are-now-5-major-american-sports-leagues-1718087
This is from August - Seattle is the 9th largest market as of then.
http://www.thewrap.com/nbc-sports-groups-premier-league-soccer-season-kicks-off-to-u-s-ratings-record/
The ratings 'record' is an average of just over 500k viewers. That's fairly puny.0 -
Trust me - football is huge in the Pacific Northwest - The Packers visit the Seahawks in the early game tomorrow (Sunday). It will get great ratings.Sunil_Prasannan said:0 -

THE Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg is being “airbrushed” from his party’s election campaign by his own MPs, research by the Tories reveals.
Clegg’s photograph was used in just 3% of Lib Dem election leaflets produced between May last year and this month, and he is mentioned by name in less than 2%.

According to Top Gear - an unimpeachable source if ever there was one - Australians now call brits Nigel in the same way all Australians are called Bruce.MarqueeMark said:

God, I thought the whole Ferguson stuff had been left behind by the BBC. So what do I get when I turn on R5, Adrian Chiles has been doing a piece on African American's experience of police and he has just said "well what we got in places like Ferguson is unarmed African American's being dispatched".
The BBC just can't accept in that particular case that a detailed investigation has been conducted and his description is nowhere near what the report concluded happened (and nobody has found any issues with the evidence provided). The kid wasn't just dispatched, he committed a robbery, attacked a police officer and attempted to take his gun.
It is nearly as bad as the presenter on the night of the decision was "well that was the legal decision, but that isn't the moral decision".0 -

The Greens have now selected more candidates than they had at the 2010 general election which was 334 (310 E&W, 20 Scotland, 4 NI).
Selection 335: Greenwich & Woolwich — Abbey Akinoshun.

I'd say Great Grimsby is too close to call between Labour and UKIP. Otherwise Labour won't lose any seats to UKIP, but the purples could get a lot of impressive second places which would be useful if there were a second general election in 2015.Pulpstar said:

He wasn't just attempting to take his gun but also to shoot its owner with it. He was high on something according to toxicology. Most people other than Al Sharpton and his fans accept that Wilson had no choice but to shoot.FrancisUrquhart said:God, I thought the whole Ferguson stuff had been left behind by the BBC. The New York case of the man who was choke held and died for selling loose cigarettes is far more problematic. Selling loosies shouldn't mean a death sentence, even if the perp had serious health issues. The fact that the senior sergeant in command at the time was a black female doesn't alter the fact that this was an over reaction - but the mayor had told them to enforce this law, so the cops were caught in the middle. I would have thought there were grounds for charges against the cops on this one.0 -
