Let's hope the perpetrator is caught and prosecuted.
Incidentally, see how the "offence" is now not just drawing Mohammed but expressing sympathy for people killed for doing so. What next? Maybe just mentioning the fact that they were killed? Or that they were killed by Muslims? Will those too lead to threats of violence?

Great that the new edition of Charlie Hebdo has been bought by so many millions
The best way of showing solidarity for me was for that to happen, rather than everyone pretending to share the magazines views by republishing the cover

SEVEN out of 10 now say it's unfair not to include the Greens in the leaders' TV election debates - bolstering David Cameron's stand.
An exclusive YouGov poll for The Sun revealed support is climbing for broadcasters to invite Natalie Bennett on too.0 -
But by a smaller majority, 57% of voters still think Mr Cameron should take part in the debates even without the environment-loving party.0

That they get so aggravated, to the point that far too many will respond inappropriately to merely an image, is a problem. No-one should get so aggravated from such a thing to such an extent, why should they be coddled because they are so aggravated? No Islam is not the only faith or creed to take such affront at comment or mockery of something so dear to its adherents, but ultimately the argument that even though publishers may choose to be sensitive to cultural concerns, those of that culture should not expect that other cultures will adhere to their rules, convinces me.HYUFD said:Isam Indeed, I have to say I agree, would people rush out to buy magazines mocking up Jesus Christ even if the magazine had been victim of a terrorist attack? It is not aggravation 'for the sake of it'. That too many cannot accept such 'provocation' in an appropriate way would in fact lend itself to an argument that it is important to keep on doing it to make an important point. The reaction it gets turns what could have been a needless insult, which in time would lead to it not being done as much by choice (and not out of fear, but taste), into what can be presented, bizarrely, as a brave act. It shouldn't require that, even for something designed to be aggravating to no larger point.

Labour fell by 8% (to a majority of 2329) which was an average fall but no main opposition party rose, if the Tories had increased their share by what was normal in the S.E they would have got it, however Rantzen's candidacy cost not just votes (1872 votes) but attention too, the publicity created was also a magnet for a lot other independent candidates and another media person to jump into the ring in Luton South.MikeL said:

Utter and total nonsense, unlike the cartoon issue, it is typical "we are offended on behalf of various groups, despite having not consulted if they would be offended or received any complaints".
The idiots at the publishers might just take a moment and think has the BBC been under constant threat by radical Jews and Muslims over showing Peppa Pig? No, I wonder why that might be?0 -
Unlike Cambridge, Oxford doesn't offer a Veterinary Science course, so I guess they don't have to worry about books for that course :-)weejonnie said:

Sometimes we have to, or choose to, yes. But those who are bold enough not to compromise our ideals in order to defend them or challenge the realities of the world which need someone to challenge them really should feel like they have support in spirit even if most are not so bold, not admonishment, however gentile, that some have received, which suggests intentionally or not that the worthy stand is not worthy at all.HYUFD said:kle4 Indeed, sometimes we have to compromise our ideals with the realities of the real world

Who would have thought this would happen in the 21st century UK? What will be doing to appease Muslims should they get to 10% or 20% of the population?AndyJS said:Well done to Iain Dale for admonishing Sky News on their paper review for apologising for "accidentally" showing the cartoon earlier.

Plenty ammunition for Labour in that article, I'll start by pointing at this:hucks67 said:Apparently Osborne thinks that the UK can become the richest country in the world by 2030, overaking the US and China.

"I have now abolished the artificial cap imposed by the Treasury on the number of students but I believe that the number going to university in Britain is still too low.
"I have no time at all for those who say we've reached the limit, or that many of our young people are simply not cut out for university.
"If you look around the world at the economies leading the pack on skills and productivity, like South Korea and the USA, they are sending far more of their young people to university."
Isn't the cost of tuition fees a major impediment for more student numbers?
The coalitions policy means poorer students pay less. If you do not earn enough you pay nothing back.
You will find that Osborne is talking about skills and productivity. Not media studies.

The fact that OUP sells to 150+ countries is great news for UK PLC. If they want to cut costs by producing single versions of textbooks which can be sold in multiple markets, then this is the sort of thing that is going to happen. If UK teachers want to pay more for a specific UK version, including all manner of pork products then so be it. Of course then they'll get lambasted by the daily mail for wasting money....
The story here is about the globalization of education, censored pork products are very much a footnote in that story.0
