Still don't have a clue what the lyrics of Waterloo are about. The individual words and phrases make sense, but not the whole thing.
Love is like a battlefield. The narrator has lost and fallen in love with the target of the song. But she doesn’t mind “losing” in this way. Makes sense as a whole.

Suposed to be but the aurora watch site is down at the moment so no idea about the current strength of the solar storm. NOAA currently has it as a G3 but predicted to increase to G4 (last night was G5)

It was not the gayness, it was that the camera never panned out to give any sense that there was anything beyond that 4x3x3 box, no sense that the UK were performing live, no sense that it was a Eurovision performance. It could have been the pop video.

But this is the problem for UK songs, they try to appeal to UK listeners which fundamentally doesn't make sense. The audience doesn't get lyrics about a girl wanting to get even with an ex by writing a song and generally the concept of getting even is too negative for the Eurovision audience. It needs to be much more positive about achieving something amazing or freedom etc... not a bitchy song about some unnamed person.
The last time we did well was a hugely positive song about going to space (or getting high, depending on your perspective) and making friends with aliens. We need to do better at keeping it much more simple and making sure that the song is really positive and well performed. Either that or something really off the wall like Ireland, but I don't think we could get a performer like that to do it.

I think Malin Ackerman wins. Songs were a bit ordinary but she’s lovely.
The last time we did well was a hugely positive song about going to space (or getting high, depending on your perspective) and making friends with aliens. We need to do better at keeping it much more simple and making sure that the song is really positive and well performed. Either that or something really off the wall like Ireland, but I don't think we could get a performer like that to do it.
