    He remains PM.

Hmmmm. Why do a get a sinking feeling about how this will end?

He remains in office, spending every moment trying to find some way to stay as PM.

God knows what he will come up with in next three months.

Boris Johnson needs to hand in the seals of office, apologise to Her Majesty & advise her to call for a Caretaker Prime Minister.

To take over today so that Ministers can get back to work & we can choose a new Conservative Leader to try & repair the damage & rebuild trust. https://twitter.com/georgefreemanmp/status/1544929459286966272

Even then he might be lying!

The 1922 Committee should continue to change the rules and get rid of him. He's busted, utterly without dignity, respect, or judgement, and absolutely untrustworthy.

Throw the egotistical creature of deceit overboard and don't listen to a word he says. He can't be trusted, either to keep his word or to act in the national interest.

A number of us have an obligation to keep this country safe,no matter who is PM. The Party has a mechanism to change leaders and that is the mechanism which I advise colleagues to use. In the meantime, the public would not forgive us if we left these Offices of State empty.

Every media outlet is confirming his resignation today and indeed to stay in office during his successor election campaign
That's his proposal. Whether it lasts the hour remains to be seen.

Really? Why will you rejoin? Boris didn't do this by himself. He was put there by the Tories.

Sky confirming Johnson will resign today and stay in office until his successor is appointed

Unacceptable. Bad for the country, bad for the government, bad for the party.

    He should just go.

And for sh*ts and giggles, May should become interim leader...
Yes, the spectacle of all the ministers who resigned coming back to prop him up is going to be truly ridiculous. There should be discussions with May, or a senior cabinet minister who is willing to recuse themselves from the leadership contest.

I think Brady and Boris have done a deal whereby he's allowed to stay on whilst a new leader is chosen. Brady is a fair umpire of the 1922 but always a bit defferential toward the current PM when it comes to the style of allowing them to depart.
Cabinet & ministers will stay on with the template Wallace laid out 'Staying in post not for Boris but for the good of the country'. Nadine Dorries can have 5 portfolios for a few months.

War with Russia is an out for Boris. I wouldn’t put it past him.
Surely there are safeguards to prevent Trident being used for solely narrow political purposes?
It's obviously all irrelevant now, but yes.

This point was made similarly with Trump - Presidents and PMs have the "nuclear codes" but all they do is authorise action. All the stuff about the boss hitting a red button directly connected to a launch timer is just Hollywood fantasy. The codes are simply an administrative step - a necessary and important one, but not a sufficient one.

Yep that was and is my fear from a party political point of view (as a LD) rather than what is good for the country which of course is more important.

However Boris, in particular in the last few days, has done unnecessary damage to the Tory party. A lot can and will change in the next year for good or bad.
