Arguably it is pornographic. Via the pose. Is that how you watch England cricket, in that pose? Is that exactly what she is doing right now, watching live coverage? She is looking pensive about something, like expecting a short one any moment, or one to swing in?Leon said:

My ex arguably had a peachier bottom than O’Murphy, and longer legs, likewise. No wonder the photographer got quite hot under her Sapphic collar
If you want to argue if it’s porn or not, we can tie this to the Sufferegette discussion. I can’t find the painting(s) online, it was a pre raphealite exhibition in a gallery I went in, a gentleman’s club had hired one of the leading pre raphaelites to paint the leading suffragettes nude, from imagination.
The intent behind that is kind of obvious isn’t it Leon? Not entirely innocent you would agree?
I think they found OMurphy in a place of ill repute. The painting just screams “look at my mistress- boo boo losers!”

We constantly hear (most recently from Drakeford today) that “with”/“of” distinction is meaningless as regards to hospitals because “patients have to be separated at great difficulty in hospital regardless”. At what point does even this basic assumption (in addition to requirement to isolation regardless of symptoms and/or actually being ill) begin to be queried if it is causing disruption to ability to deliver wider hospital care?pigeon said:

Johnson's game is obvious but I'm not sure what Geidt's is. My tentative read is he needs the job. Whatever, it looks like an attempt to have it both ways. Not resign but telegraph a sentiment along the lines of: "I'd love to find this bloke guilty of breaking the Ministerial Code, cos I think he did, but he's stitched me up like a kipper and now I can't. And please don't go thinking I'm an idiot to let myself be stitched up like a kipper, because he lied to me and I was duty bound to accept his word, him being the PM and all, and me a man of honour, and it's too late to go back and do it all again."Northern_Al said:

Seriously, are people not bothered with what has gone on here? The letters published yesterday between Geidt and Boris are truly shocking, and I'm pretty unshockable. How Geidt hasn't resigned is beyond me. (Of course I wouldn't expect Boris to resign for his appalling mendacity).4 -
A PLEA ABOUT DRINKS ON 3 FEB
I really really want to go to a PB drinks but I also really really really want to go to Cape Verde 10 days later. I think this date was fixed when omicron was just a twinkle in some Botswanan's lung. Rather than holding a superspreading entertainment could we punt it a couple of months down the calendar?0 -
I don't think the reaction to your posts is because people are denying lab leaks happen, after all as I posted last night I can think of two important ones in my lifetime, just in the UK, namely smallpox in Birmingham and Foot and Mouth in Pirbright. There is more to the reaction to your posts than that, but there is no point in going over that again.Leon said:
Yes indeed. Which makes the successful suppression of the lab leak hypothesis - as a “racist conspiracy” - for at least a year, all the more remarkable, and outrageousglw said:
Did you see this? A suspected Delta lab-leak from a BSL3 laboratory in Taiwan.Leon said:His point about Daszak - the creepy scientist at Wuhan - successfully avoiding all questions (let alone arrest/trial etc) is bang on. The Americans can’t do much about Chinese labs and Chinese boffins, but Daszak is a US citizen, who got US funding, and he lives in the USA
He could be hauled in front of a Senate committee/courtroom tomorrow. Yet they don’t do it
Which strongly suggests plenty of important people in the USA are worried as F about their possible guilt, and are quite content for the whole Covid-origin question to be airily waved away as “unknowable”
Which is even more reason to investigate it
https://fortune.com/2021/12/10/taiwan-investigates-covid-lab-leak-scientist-tests-positive-bite-infected-mouse/
Far too many people act as though lab-leaks of dangerous viruses can't happen.
They acted like it was an insane concept - a virus leaking from a lab! No way! - and anyone who voiced the possibility was a crackpot Trumpite
Quintessential gaslighting
I confess it worked on me, for a while. My initial assumption when the virus first emerged was Oh it must have come from the lab. The coincidence was just too much. This was, let it be noted, the initial assumption of the Chinese scientist who runs the lab - batwoman Shi - she thought “Christ what if it got out of my lab” and she rushed back from Shanghai to “check”. So it was not an absurd theory to HER
Then the Lancet letter came out and everyone denounced the hypothesis and I thought “well they must know what they’re talking about”
A couple of months later the doubts began. THAT virus in THAT city with THAT lab? Etc0 -
Yes, incentivise the NHS managers as well, put an end 2022 time limit to the testing budget and tell them that the money will get spent whatever happens, whether they want to spend it on pointlessly testing everyone every 3 minutes or have it for wider healthcare spending and waiting list reductions is up to them.pigeon said:

Now London hospital occupation is decreasing, likely the deaths peak by actual date was Tuesday/Wednesday - will be interesting to see where the number ends up. At the moment the rolling 7 day average is at 21. Likely to tick up as lagged data comes in, but given it peaked at 200 last year looks like we're in the 10-20% of last year's daily death peaks territory, and the much quicker wave length means total deaths in wave likely to be half or less of that figure. Omicron is going to struggle to match a routine year of flu deaths.0

I don't know. In principle one would've thought that hospitals would want to concentrate on minimising the risk to the categories of patients most vulnerable to Covid (e.g. in immunology clinics) and not be so worried about fit thirtysomethings with broken bones ending up with a snotty nose as well. However, I doubt that it's that simple: there are most likely potentially vulnerable patients (the elderly for starters) scattered all over hospitals, and it would be hard of not impossible to segregate them.alex_ said:

Expending enormous effort on testing and isolating schoolchildren, for example, is pointless given the nature of the Omicron variant.
The best solution is probably, therefore, to carpet bomb healthcare workers with tests, to pick up and remove new cases speedily but also to allow affected workers to come back again the moment that they begin to test clear. Under current circumstances an absolute top priority is to determine whether or not the Americans and others have got it wrong when they've cut the isolation period from 7 to 5 days - and whether, indeed, we're doing more harm than good by making people isolate for any longer than it takes them to return a negative LFT result.0 -

Not that I am saying that is what you done.
Absolutely agree on the motivation. This is the commissioner of the painting, or the painter himself, or both, quietly boasting - yes, I had her
And also, no doubt, wanting to preserve the pleasant memory of that. Even as time steals the human beauty away
If you filmed yourself in the act to preserve a pleasant memory Leon, would that not be porn?
The gentlman only club with their naked sufferegette leaders on the walls, in beautiful pre raphaelite perfectly artistic glory, not porn in your opinion?
The ex who did the O Murphy pose has put some of her photos on Onlyfans and made money from them. That probably does cross the line into porn? But I don’t judge her for it, let alone condemn her. They’re her photos of herself, good luck to her if people are willing to pay
I have never thought of doing Onlyfans, which is a new thing anyway, I had thought of doing Abby Winters, my favourite porn site. I’m pretty content these days I didn’t.

Surely Carrie's presence is problematic because if it was, as Cummings said, a business meeting (or series of business meetings) then Carrie should not have been there. What is the stated purpose? Increasingly with omicron the only point of restrictions is to push infections into the future. It’s probably past the point where they can have much effect on the overwhelming or otherwise of hospitals. And even the staffing issues will begin to resolve themselves naturally before very long. It was different with the pingdemic - now people should only be isolating if actually testing positive - therefore it should only happen once (unlike the “pingdemic” where it could happen multiple times).FrancisUrquhart said:iSAGE want unis to go back to online only and everybody to self-test every time you leave the house.....
It’s just basically calling for restrictions for the purpose of wanting restrictions.

Less than that one would assume. The ONS estimate at the end of November was that 95% of adults had Covid antibodies at the end of November, before all this started, and we know how easily it spreads through schools.TimT said:

Anyone know if this applies to the 28 day rule for deaths? If a positive is not timestamped, can a death be counted?
Though, to give it its due, the Omicron variant does seem to be doing a remarkable job of finding and infecting the few remaining individuals who are left. Hence the high prevalence of refusers amongst the remaining seriously ill Covid patients.0 -
The early signs that cases nationally are curving into a peak (the by sample date patterns, with a similar Bank Holiday pattern, don't look too dissimilar from post Christmas last year and that with lockdown) suggests a decent number of the vaccinated are not Omicron susceptibleTimT said:

With the schools back, I don't expect as consistent a fall as was seen through lockdown last year, but I think we'll go into a pattern of oscillation, similar to the Summer/Autumn Delta wave, but at higher case levels for a good while.
The worst of the hospitalisation wave is yet to come in the Regions and the next 2-3 weeks will be hairy, but my mid point guess is that we won't quite blow the NHS. Nevertheless, I'm just edging to the WfH mandates running to February half term and masking a bit longer still.
From late spring, May time I reckon, a lot of the basics will be gradually toned down - isolation rules, recording COVID out with the normal weekly infection monitoring and next winter will be handled much more BAU basis, though still with a weather eye on variants that all look suspicious like Omicron redux.0 -

That is true, except of course it isn't, but perhaps Boris can kill two birds with one stone by creating an official government position of First Lady, as in America, thus legitimising Carrie's presence and bringing in an extra salary.MattW said:

However, there are some other jurisdictions in Europe where governments are still enthusiastically tightening restrictions or seriously contemplating so doing.alex_ said:
The common mindset in all of this is "restrictions worked in the past, so they'll work again now." Scientists and politicians who are unaware of, or determined to ignore, recent evidence suggesting that restrictions are weak or useless against Omicron are only going to learn this lesson by trying them again - if they learn at all.2 -

Makes me think something is wrong with the numbers somewhere along the line. If 95% had some degree of immunity prior to omicron, then that is, say 3.3 million total (adults and kids) without any. Now 85% of 4 million is 3.4 million. the omicron cases amongst the naive. So there is no-one left with zero prior exposure ...pigeon said:
Less than that one would assume. The ONS estimate at the end of November was that 95% of adults had Covid antibodies at the end of November, before all this started, and we know how easily it spreads through schools.TimT said:
So if 4 million or so have succumbed to omicron, and only 10-15% were reinfections, how few people are now totally naive to COVID? It can only be a couple of millions or so.Foxy said:
Though Wales counts reinfections after 42 days, unlike the others at present. These seem to be 10-15% of cases, such as SKS.pigeon said:Seven day case rates on the Covid dashboard now updated as far as the seven days ending January 2nd:
Northern Ireland: 2,852.7 per 100,000
Wales: 2,577.6
Scotland: 2,079.5
England: 1,786.8
Anyone know if this applies to the 28 day rule for deaths? If a positive is not timestamped, can a death be counted?
Though, to give it its due, the Omicron variant does seem to be doing a remarkable job of finding and infecting the few remaining individuals who are left. Hence the high prevalence of refusers amongst the remaining seriously ill Covid patients.
Doesn't quite add up.0 -
I can't help but think if you make traditional unis almost entirely online only then you'd just go to one of the actual established online-only unis instead, i.e. go where they actually expect to do everything online and not where they have hastily adapted their courses at the last minute to online only.0

Their tuition is seriously diminished. Their learning experience is seriously diminished.
There should be a fee discount.
