Before anyone announces that the Tories are bound to lose the next election because of a Cabinet reshuffle cock up, let us remember the occasion when Jeremy Corbyn took three weeks to reshuffle his cabinet, ran out of MPs who were willing to serve under him, and then appointed and sacked as a shadow cabinet minister an MP who was having cancer treatment without informing her either way. And then decided that the country was crying out for Diane Abbott as Home Secretary. When it comes to incompetence there is only one unchallenged master.......
The official No. 1 snapper should be sacked immediately! Seriously, most youngsters at photography college would be embarrassed to submit such poor work. Look too at the group photo posted below – full of shoulder gaps and just amateurish in every way.
NEW: BBC staff told that anyone who has indicated support for Carrie Gracie, or tweeted an opinion about BBC pay, can no longer present any segments on BBC pay. 12:59 PM - 8 Jan 2018
The BBC are doing their best to make the Tory party look competent by comparison.
She publicly criticises her employers, quits her job, then walks into another job with the BBC.
Most people would get sacked for attacking their employer in public. She could always see how much Russia today or Al Jazeera would pay her on the open market?
Brave would be resigning and leaving the BBC entirely.
What I don't understand is why she is saying that she doesn't want more money. What then is the point of all this hoo ha? If she is underpaid then she bloody well ought to get more money. Agreeing to stay underpaid and turning down a pay increase is simply prolonging the problem.
That is the issue with her position. By turning down a pay rise - she is effecitvely saying that her colleagues should have their pay cut to the same level as her if she really wants equality. She claims it is up to 'Management' to sort it out - but how can they when she turns down the only mechanism they have to rectify the perceived problem. Levelling down is not going to be the way to improve quality or equality at the BBC. I suppose it would be doing More Better for Less - only not managing to do anything better.
@stuartpstevens: Somewhere a Republican team is being tasked with coming up with how to attack Oprah for being a politically inexperienced tv star. You don’t want this job.
Absolutely pathetic. Only obsessives and partisans care about who’s tweeted what.
What a small man your hero is.
FFS, why can’t he post this? Some of you Tory loons are losing it...
He can. My fire is targeted at Osborne, who is continuing to demonstrate the emotional maturity of a spoilt child.
Gove was a giant by comparison when he was sacked. Then again, he cares about things greater than himself.
Osborne was dismissed rudely by May but, in his behaviour since, he demonstrates some of the behaviours that led to his dismissal.
Osborne never grasped that she was doing him a favour. However he looked coming out of 10 Downing Street after being fired as Chancellor, the papers would have a field day with the expression on their fellow Fleet Street colleague's face....
Stop being such an apologist, Carlotta. You know that incompetence registers with voters.
Carlotta is a one-woman Tory rebuttal bot operating under orders from Central Office.
Pots and kettles.
Guess again. Not a member of any party. Never will be.
If your name, avatar and posting total is correct, you are new to politicalbetting.
Within your grand total of 84 posts, I am yet to see a non-partisan, or non-trolling post from you.
I'm sure there's more to you than that, so will wait to be impressed by the real you.
My job is not to impress you, Mr Bond.
Ah, so you have a job?
Interesting.
I am happily employed, thank you. By the way, I must congratulate you on your username. Casino Royale (the Craig version of course) is the best of all the Bond films. It is somewhat overlong and the scenes in Venice at the end could have been more concisely delivered, yet it remains the best of the series, narrowly edging out Goldfinger.

Hey now, Trump has stood for President in 2000. Vastly more experienced.

She was offered £50K extra (same as the Middle East guy), but that would still have been £50K less than the guy in the US.
So she sulked on principle.
(Setting aside that, I'd argue, the US role is a bigger and more important one)
She's moved to a less important role that is in line with her current pay.

Better than Moonraker?
(Hides in corner)
Ha ha! In seriousness, I think the Living Daylights is one of the best films in the series – often forgotten about as has Dalton as Bond!

Ha ha! I hope so. There are more important things than party reshuffles.
This increasingly poorly named 'reshuffle' gets duller by the minute. Thank god for the Grayling gaffe otherwise it would have been a complete non-event!

It is the best of the Craig films. Far better than the dirge that is Skyfall. I'd have trimmed the airport chase at the start, was a bit too long, and I agree the ending could have been crisper.
Martin Campbell is a superb director.
Fundamentally, you can tell the quality of a Bond film from how closely they stick to Fleming's source material.

Look in the mirror - the Tories need to be ejected out of power and quickly...
Not going to happen for another 4 years
In 4 years, Corbyn will look very stale. He won't fight that election.
The only way Corbyn doesn't fight another election is if he decides not to or ill health / death. The first is unlikely and given his health and lifestyle the second would be surprising. Very slim chance of him not leading Labour into the next election, also I'm not sure his appeal his based on a style or a coolness that will get stale. More a perceived authenticity, a lot of problems which his approach might solve and just a different approach in general, these things probably have some sticking power.
This much-vaunted reshuffle is turning into an utter damp squib. So far we've just had a few lower-ranking nobodies moved about. What's going on? Are the big players just digging their heels in and Theresa's too timid to challenge them? I want a refund!
I'd expected the government to see quite an improvement after the December staging post was reached.
No surprise at all.
Brexit wasn't about Brexit, it was about registering discontent and a protest about life. It is entirely natural, therefore, that this supposedly life-changing measure, which hasn't changed anyone's life (for the better) should itself be a source of discontent.
So DD hangs on too. There's got to be one high-profile sacking surely. If not Boris, Hammond or DD then what about Gove or Fox?
Even though I despise Boris, Fox is the most obnoxious person in politics. To coin a phrase the guy is an an utter c*nt. As someone of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, he should be no-where near the levers of power...

@PaulBrandITV: Source in Tory whips office tells me there is a clear attempt to put reshuffle at CCHQ on a par with cabinet reshuffle, to illustrate importance of reforming the Conservative Party. #reshuffle
Talking only to the Party, not the country. How did that work out last time?

The problem last time was there was not enough talking to the base with the dementia tax etc.
She seems to have a perfectly reasonable stance to me. If the father killed the baby inside her, he'd no doubt be prosecuted. I don't see why there should be loopholes for the mother. The existing law is already quite liberal in practice for women wanting abortions.
Oh dear. Harris showing his ignorance. The Abwehr under Canaris spent almost the whole war undermining Hitler, helping Jews escape to neutral countries (Canaris appointed dozens of known Jewish officers and diplomats as spies to neutral countries where they promptly disappeared) and doing everything it could to make sure the Nazis lost. So much so that many of their members were eventually arrested and executed.
Surprised it's so low. For many the EU porridge will be too hot, for many more, too cold.....
But the final deal will end up in the Goldilocks zone.
That's a very fair point. I think she'll end with with a deal that will satisfy a majority of people - but I'll not be one of them. That isn't to say that I'll think the deal is bad within its own terms but just that it won't match up to my own pro-EU political beliefs very well.

I am not patronising you - I just want you to educate yourself.
For your information, Liam Fox is an enemy of progress and an enemy of the Sri Lankan Tamil people. While David Cameron, William Hague and many other MPs from all political parties were trying to get a fair and just settlement by putting pressure on the then Sri Lankan Government of alleged war criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa, Liam Fox and a few other obnoxious Tory politicians (e.g. Lord Naseby) were cosying up to the said regime.
So, yes in my opinion and hopefully the opinion of many others, Liam Fox is the most obnoxious person in British politics.
Actually that is a very sensible move, making housing a high-profile priority and increasing the minister's clout in implementing it, without creating a new bureaucracy which would overlap with the current DCLG.

0/3 for Theresa on her dealings with Osborne.
(P.S. I am noting a theme with the Bond related names – I approve)
If you don't read the Standard, how can you assess its current output?
The good people of Hastings will kick her out next time...

Most Tories started off as fans of George Osborne. I don't think he's ever done the self-reflection to work out why that changed.
Everyone was a pawn in his game.
