‘Former Israeli space #security chief Haim Eshed has revealed that aliens from a "Galactic Federation" have been in contact with the US and #Israel for years, but humanity isn't ready to know this.
Someone has put acid in the drinking water in Jerusalem AND the Pentagon?
Eshed is fascinating because for 30 years he had an impeccable record on the Israeli satellite programme, then said "For 30 years I've had an impeccable record on the Israeli satellite programme, so now I can say this stuff."
Joint human-alien bases under the Martian surface was a bit more out there than anybody else has gone, however. So maybe he was acid-spiked.
Or else he blurted out the biggest story in the history of human existence.
It’s like an episode of he Tomorrow People. Galactic Federation.
We have telescopes and observatories looking back into space many thousands of light years. Looking at stars, galaxies, black holes and other weird and wonderful things. They’d easily spot a flying saucer working its way here.
No they wouldn't. Stars and galaxies are big, flying saucers are very very small. We have never even obtained an image of an exoplanet, let alone anything smaller outside the solar system.
Point of order, we have imaged planets around other stars.
Raab preparing the ground for ongoing measures after June 21st. The government needs to be straight with us, will we ever get the old normal back or not. Starmer needs to start asking these fucking questions now, not idiotic shite about wallpaper and nannies. We need clarity now, not mealy mouthed bullshit from ministers who have clearly made the judgement call despite the evidence and data showing vaccines are enough to keep the virus under control.
Mr Raab said the UK was "in a good position" to "get life back as close to normal as possible".
The foreign secretary told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show: "But there will still need to be some safeguards in place."
There's no party that wants to let go of this all powerful toolset they've been given over our lives. As soon as the virus is defeated (and it already is, tbh) they won't be able to rule over every minutiae of our lives, how far apart we need to sit from each other, making us check in to all venues so they know where everyone is at all times, whether or not people can have sex with perfect strangers. The politicians don't want to give up control of anything.
India thought the virus was defeated three months ago. You can afford to be convinced it is here now, the government cannot. Johnson's "dead bodies" outburst suggests that he is even more anti restrictions than you are.
The situation here is completely different, the comparison to India is specious, they've vaccinated 8% of adults with a single dose, we've done 65%, they've done 3% with both doses, we've done 25% and that figure is going up by 6% per week.
The science is on the side of no restrictions in June. Data not dates is what the government said, now that the data supports a full unlockdown and no more measures they've decided to ignore the data.
I'm expecting them just to stick to the roadmap. No acceleration, no slippage.

Nah, they have been here since at least the 1940's apparently. The only thing that is surprising about that is that mankind's behaviour in the 1940s must have had them thinking whether introductions were really in order or whether sterilisation of the planet was more appropriate.

Interestingly, there was quite a debate in the C19 amongst Presbyterians and others on whether there was sentient life on other worlds, and the nature of divine redemption of such beings (starting with whether they had souls at all).
“We are seeing some of the highest commodity price inflation that we’ve seen in a decade,” Graeme Pitkethly, chief financial officer at Unilever, told reporters this week.
7 votes for that Town Council is nothing. There are lots of unwarded parishes where you end up voting for more than that - I always feel bad when there are, say, 16 candidates for 15 seats. I've seen an unwarded parish with 21 seats, contested election, without parties to make the choices easier.
Back in the day (1960s or thereabouts) in wonderful West Virginia, seats in the state House of Delegates were allocated on a county basis. With the largest, Kanawha Co (pronounced btw "Ka'naw'a") electing 14 members all at-large. The county consists of Charleston, the state capital and it (mostly industrial back then) suburbs, plus a large rural area composed of isolated valleys (hollows = "hollers") with small coal-mining communities (for example, Cabin Creek, home of NBA legend Jerry West, the guy on the official logo).
In the Democratic & Republican primaries, there would be scores of hopefuls, sometime nearly a hundred spit between the parties, with the top 14 for each advancing to the general election. Then in the general election, voters could chose out of this group of 28 with top 14 being elected to the state legislature.
Was always of interest (I was just a kid then, but a weirdo even then!) to seen who ended up at the top of this particular greasy poll. Certain well-know and (perhaps) well-regarded (or maybe just loudmouthed) politicos & personalities would top the list. With #14 making the cut, and #15 out in the cold.
When he first entered WVa politics, former governor & ex-US Senator John D Rockefeller IV ("Jay:) served for a couple years as a VISTA (domestic Peace Corps) in a small Kanawha Co community. Then he ran for the state House of Delegates there, as a Democrat in contrast to his Republican uncles Nelson (Gov of New York) and Winthrop (Gov of Arkansas). He waged a spirited (and expensive) campaign and was elected near the top of the bunch. Which gave him a great political launching pad for statewide office, which he won a few years later when he was elected WV Secretary of State.
Next time out, Jay Rockefeller ran for Governor of the Mountain State but lost narrowly, to Arch Moore, the father of current US Senator Shelley Moore Capito. At that point, West Virginians wondered if he'd up and moved back to New York City. He did not. He stayed (as president of small college) and four years later ran against Arch Moore and defeated him. Served three terms as Governor then went on to serve for years as US Senator.

That was Archbishop Ussher's calculation. Edwin Poots MP says 4000 BCE, which is what (some) sources state was the date indicated by the researches of Sir Isaac Newton.
So Potts IS an advanced thinker, concurring with Britain's greatest scientist. Just three centuries late.

One question I have is that if it's true that people who had previously been infected with SARS had protection against covid, why is there such pessimism about the need for new vaccines?
Because it suits the politicians and scientists who don't want to give up control. The data supports a pretty big unlocking now.
Los Angeles is a pretty good proxy for the UK, in terms of speed of vaccine roll out, and in terms of case numbers around Christmas followed by a strict lockdown.
They have been *much* more aggressive about lifting restrictions and case numbers have continue to fall.
(The one thing I think will last some time will be mask wearing on public transport.)

Sounds like the government is breaking its promise to end all Covid-19 social measures by 21st June. Despite the fact that the figures are far better than anyone was expecting at this stage.
Exactly nobody saw that coming did they? Its been obvious for months that they intend to make us wear masks till the end of time.
One of my biggest remaining desires is to be allowed to sing in the congregation at church - we have taken to trooping outside and singing in the carpark, but it's not quite the same. I've a nasty feeling that they will hold onto this rule as long as they can too, especially as there aren't many votes in it.

AV is a terrible system that manages to combine the disadvantages of FPTP and PR without the advantages of either. The country in its wisdom binned the idea - nothing to do with "giving Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats", whatever that means.
Surely if the Man United v Liverpool fixture can't go ahead then this should be a forfeit by Man United?
I doubt it very much.
Serious respect for those United fans. They should do whatever it takes to get rid of their club's owners.
Should the authorities be doubting the wisdom of fans for the final 2 rounds? I predict serious trouble if they are allowed to go ahead. Particularly if away fans are added to the mix.

The distinction is between "believing in aliens" and defence bureaucrats simply becoming more open that they don't know what some of the phenomena are.
Yes precisely. I don’t ‘believe’. I’m just open to persuasion if compelling data emerges.
Has it? Not really. It’s intriguing but it’s hardly slam dunk
The compelling aspect of this is all the senior politicians, senators, CIA directors, intel experts, journalists, scientists (the guy at Harvard) who are now saying ‘there is something out there we don’t understand’
Either they are experiencing a mass hallucination (unlikely), or they are involved in a grand conspiracy (possible, but implausible) or they have been hoodwinked by the Chinese (how?) or everyone is just seeing a new physical phenomenon (but surely they’d rule that out)
That leaves two other explanations. Incredibly advanced unknown human technology, or the same tech but this time made by aliens, visiting Planet Earth
One, it’s the US, where belief in the ... unusual ... is not entirely uncommon. Two, most of these guys are more geriatric than Biden.
I’m not utterly denying the possibility, but it remains exceedingly unlikely.
Premier League clubs are set to be allowed up to 500 away fans attending matches in the final two rounds of the season as part of crowds of 10,000 supporters.
Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, has written to the 20 clubs saying that the government is planning to relax the ban on away fans after May 17.
Clubs had been working towards having stadiums up to 25 per cent full — though a maximum of 10,000 fans — for the final two match rounds of the season and now League chiefs are proposing that 5 per cent of that capacity should be away supporters, up to 500 in number.
Masters has asked all clubs to respond with their views on the proposed policy. Clubs would have to abide by the £30 cap on away tickets.
The Times has seen a copy of Masters’s letter, which states: “Government has informed us that, as Covid-19 indicators continue to improve, it is planning to relax the ‘no away fans’ stipulation from the stage five guidance, governing the playing of our final match rounds in season 2020-21.
“The return of fans and ultimately full stadiums remains our primary goal, therefore our view is that we must accept the opportunity to host as wide a range of supporters as possible.
“That being the case, the executive proposes an away-ticket allocation of 5 per cent of available capacity (a maximum of 500 away fans) at round 37 and 38 matches, respecting the £30 away-ticket price cap.”
Masters’s letter anticipates that clubs may run into some difficulties with their local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) which has to give the permission for the matches to take place and can impose restrictions such as social distancing.
“This policy is designed to accommodate away supporters, maximise home fan numbers and reduce the likelihood of SAG resistance,” the letter states.

I think today has highlighted a very real problem for the real fans attending in big numbers this season

Via @Paul_Bedfordshire Interesting.. I thought we don’t normally pay ransoms?
Isn't it a refund for their tanks ordered but never delivered?
The UK could deliver 1200 fifty year old Chieftains just for the bantz.
It did occur to me that this could be a fairly satisfactory solution 😂. Ideally with at least some delivered by an RAF air drop (sans parachute) through the roof of the "Islamic Consultative Assembly" building.

In addition if you are looking at something 1000 light years away that means you are also looking at what was happening there a 1000 years ago so you wouldn't see the massive space armada they only just launched.
Unless they travel faster than light we need not worry for a bit.
Hang on. They might have seen the first glimmering of human life tens of thousands of years ago, and set off then. In which case, they might be arriving (checks calendar) next Tuesday.
How is that possible when earth was formed on October 23rd 4004bc
Interestingly, there was quite a debate in the C19 amongst Presbyterians and others on whether there was sentient life on other worlds, and the nature of divine redemption of such beings (starting with whether they had souls at all).
Little green men on Mars, maybe. Green men big or little in Ireland, never!

Point of order, we have imaged planets around other stars.
Nothing likely to support life, though. That’s a decade or so out until we can park telescopes at Lagrange points and do some really large scale interferometry.

Of course, if Man Utd's games were cancelled and forfeit, it would open up just the tiniest bit of hope for Fulham...
Like Quebec, Catalonia is an example of how NOT to do things. Both held the threat of separatism over their people’s, and businesses voted with their feet - going elsewhere. Is that really what Scots want?
Hang on: he's the Foreign Secretary, so he might be talking about some continued restrictions on travel (which would be no surprise).
No, he was wibbling about masks and social distancing.
Do you think "masks until the end of time" will be a particularly vote winning policy?
No, but unfortunately there are about 3 more years before we are likely to get to vote this lot out. It would be quite nice to go back to normal a little sooner. Also, at present we have a leader of HM opposition who seems to believe that his role consists of nodding along with government policy, unless it involves designer wallpaper.

In LA, there are three remaining significant restrictions:
- masks on public transport and shops - no karaoke bars or nightclubs - restrictions on capacity at sporting events and gyms
While I'd like the remaining restrictions lifted, there remains a substantial number of antivaxxers here (much more than in the UK), so I'd expect those restrictions to be lifted more slowly than I'd like.
But you know what? Normal life is 99% back now. How much time do I spend in supermarkets anyway?
So far impact of vaccines is dramatic in UK, pronounced in US, not at all visible in EU (I expect that to start changing this month)...UK ended up being exemplary not only in speed but also in prioritizing those at risk. In Italy notably those in 30-40 age group were vaccinated faster than 70-80. Result: Italy has been recording hundreds of deaths every day
I recall that we had a surprisingly straightline fall in UK numbers.
These are current EU daily death and case rates, which seem to show the start of straightline downward trends, and look more encouraging. But still about 6-8 weeks to go to choke off the current wave if this trend holds.
The EU lines will have a lot of smoothing from the 27 different samples.
One difficult question will be if early or fast unlockdowns stretch out the time.
Liverpool fans got rid of Hicks and Gillett without the need for violence.
Didn't the club simply get repossessed by RBS?
Thanks to LFC fans, they closed down all avenues for Hicks & Gillett.
When Hicks tried to bypass Broughton and refinance through US equity firm Blackstone Group, and so stay on, fans responded with an email protest — 14,000 were sent to the company. The club made the front of the Wall Street Journal.

Err, what? The Liverpool fans had nothing to do with it. H&G almost went bankrupt because of the PiKs so we're forced to sell.
Read this book by Brian Reade, Blackstone were about to give Hicks a loan and allow him to retain control of LFC until LFC fans contacted Blackstone, even The WSJ covered it.

I think that's about right, with (as you say) the proviso that different countries are going to have very different experiences,
Why does Latvia only have 14% of its population having had even a single dose of vaccine? While Finland (who's followed the UK strategy of using first doses as widely as possible) is up to 35%?
Generally, though, the EU is getting its shit together. Last week it went from 22.9% with at least one dose to 27.2% - so it remains about 10 to 12 weeks behind the UK.
