The Chinese leadership must be pissing themselves. The west have screwed up response to coronavirus, now US smashing themselves up. China will be along in 6 months to buy up anything worthwhile.
They won't when the western world plus India and Brazil line up to demand reparations from China for covering up this outbreak and allowing it to spread
And they will say, go f##k yourself. And we won't be able to do anything.
We will, when 19 of the 20 G20 nations representing a majority of the global economy line up to isolate China and Trump leads the largest economy in open tariff war on China
In your dreams. At best, developed countries will realise that they are over reliant on China for too many essential items and bring those back in house. The rest, with the massive economic downturn coming, they can't afford to turn off the tap on cheap good from China, otherwise will be getting the same kind of riots currently in the US across the developed world, not because of police mistreatment, but because of massively increased cost of living.

The developed nations are too divided.

Not true. We can seize Chinese assets overseas, for example. They have far more assets in the rest of the world than the other way around.

But I don't think we'll take it that far.

I bet China are showing all this and saying look at the stupid fat, lazy, ill disciplined Westerns, and why we must have this new law in Hong Kong, but they are infected with this Western disease and threaten the amazing life we are building in China.

The west tried out sourcing services to India, that didn't work out that well. Massive lack of management skills and very chaotic.

And Latin America, have you ever tried doing business there.....rife with corruption from very top to bottom, and too much economic / social / political instability, making doing business very expensive and unpredictable.

China might rip off your IP, but the Party has ensured a stable social and economic platform, which means businesses are confident that their stuff will be made without riots, strikes, massive currency swings. Also, although they started off as make s##t cheap, the skill level / technical expertise is very high now.

Brazil is a good example of how not to do it, getting stuck in the middle income trap. They haven't upskilled / use latest technology / moved to widespread innovation, which is what China have been doing.

And then they stop providing all the goods the west depend on. Cold War, but the West isn't in a position to rapidly change the business model we have relied on for past 25 years of using China as the workshop of the world, meaning low inflation of everyday goods.

If we can't manage more than 10 weeks in lockdown, no way the public will accept all their consumer goods being harder to come by and significantly more expensive.

Old Navy...the poor man's GAP....I mean at least in Portland they went for the high end stuff.

The police in all these cities don't seem to have any plan. No expert in crowd control, but it seems like they let them wander around large areas unchallenged and leave their plod cars exposed.

The whole idea of the kettling approach in the UK, was to force them all together in a very small space, and the police form their lines around them, so they have no where to go.

And the powers that be in lots of these cities have just let Antifa do their thing for too long. As I said downthread, my good friends in Portland are sick of this shit happening every other weekend, and the Mayor is about as weak as they come, for far too long always excusing their behaviour.

I have a feeling if Big Dom had done this, he wouldn't have got such a soft soap report...

Rosie Duffield: Labour MP steps down as whip after breaking lockdown rules

Canterbury MP Rosie Duffield has apologised and says she has been "attempting to navigate a difficult personal situation".

    https://news.sky.com/story/rosie-duffield-11997790

Makes it sound like she broke the rules to see her terminally ill mother, not bonking her married lover.

The Cambridge University genetic analysis showed that the Wuhan strain is not the oldest, so this shouldn't be such a great surprise.

(But it also creates more questions than it answers.)

There's something slightly ridiculous about rioters wearing facemasks. Most of them are certainly not practising social distancing.

I always thought a lot of Americans would struggle with the lockdown in a way that we wouldn't, and the riots tend to prove that point.

Yeah, and actual Nazis trying to start their race-war “boogaloo” thing. But also provocateurs from the left: antifa and black bloc, not to mention probably some undercover cops not wanting to out themselves (see that “CNN” dude in DC the other night).

But some sort of rioting was guaranteed after George Floyd was murdered. It was so blatant that people here are absolutely furious. Sadly everybody that thinks they’d benefit from bringing it all down is chancing their arm right now.

What astonishes me is how blind people are. Can no-one see that these riots were orchestrated by Dominic Cummings to distract from his Durham trip?

    Cui bono guys? Cui bono?

Looking on Mail website, they are full on support Big Dom mode. Very different to coverage of the past week or so. Numerous articles highlighting stories of those making a stink over Cummings, who have connections to Mail favourite villains, BBC, Guardian, ardent Remainers.

The Mail and the Mail on Sunday are different.

The Mail is edited by Geordie Greig who is thoughtful and fairly independent, at least by Associated Newspapers' standards.

The MoS is edited by Ted Verity who is basically Continuity Dacre, a right-wing attack dog.

According to the Mail the guy who claimed Cummings made a second trip to the North made it up as a joke, and the Teacher who reported Cummings to the Police has admitted to his own long distance lockdown busting trip to Berkshire and back.

Hadn't the story of the second trip been discredited long ago? Not sure why this is remotely interesting anyway - it's what Cummings actually admitted to that has caused the justified fury.
    It is more than interesting.

These two witnesses have been found out and you say 'nothing to see here'
How has the ex Chemistry teacher been "found out"?

Are you saying he didn't see Cummings in the location that Cummings has admitted being at to check his eyes?
He was actively in breach of lockdown himself. Can you not see the hypocrisy

Desperate. Nobody cares if this person is a hypocrite or not, unless he turns out to have been secretly responsible for government policy.

But by all means start a campaign to get him to resign from something if you feel strongly about it.

If UK CV lockdown compliance was c. 87%, could there be c.70 MPs who didn't understand 'rules have always been clear and apply to all'.

Does the what goes on tour, stays on tour rule apply to politicians and the media?

Makes our current Cummings issue look like a raindrop in the ocean.
