The right-wing legislator, who pushed “family values”, was reportedly witnessed having sex with a man inside his office who was not employed by the legislator.
Surely if he had been an employee it would have been worse - if it could be so.
Regarding the Roy Moore and Al Franken situations, in Franken's case we have photographic evidence and a confession. In Moore's case we have simply a 'he said she said" with no evidence one way or the other. Although now we are up to 8 (I think) Moore accusers you eventually have to get into "surely they can't all be lying" mode.
It's fun to see the left and right agonize over this - but it's hard to avoid the view that they should both be gone.

Coalition talks have 'failed' according to the FDP.
Empress Angie still struggling then?
This kind of breakdown doesn't tend to happen in Germany.
Are they failed failed, or 'this is warning that there's one last chance' failed?
The problem is that they don't fail in Germany. Brinkmanship, if its done, doesn't have walking away. The FDP have a kingmaker position so can choose to come back but given that the FDP leader said they couldn't get a 'basis of trust' and said its better not to govern than govern badly, its as definitive as your average politicians get.

I was listening to a really interesting podcast regarding the way Germany industry has union officials on the board and industry wide collective bargaining. That sounds like a recipe for disaster and would be here, but the German unions for a number of reasons (including don't mention the war) rarely do brinkmanship and it is not uncommon for the unions to accept below industry wide worker rates for their members.
Merkel should be on the telly shortly, c20 minutes.
Auf Wiedersehen Angie?!?
I messaged a friend in Germany and asked them how this was going down, she said German media are speculating that this is the end of her dominance of the German political scene.

The conservative operative said he'd target college kids who wanted to have him as a mentor and were scared to report his sexual advances because they didn't want to damage their own careers.

"Merkel was weakened after an election in September as voters angry with her decision in 2015 to open Germany’s borders to more than a million asylum seekers punished her conservatives by voting for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) far-right party.
There is little appetite for a second vote, especially as the main parties fear that the populist AfD would win more than the almost 13 percent of votes it secured in September."
Perhaps this will bring everybody back to the table.

All great careers end in failure, as they say.
I thought this was an Enoch Powell quote in respect of political careers

Yes

The consensus in Berlin seems to be that Lindner has made a big mistake. The FDP got a lot of tactical votes from the CDU and people are not impressed with his grandstanding.

You’ve phoned everyone in Berlin in the last hour ? The Protestant work ethic strikes again.

It's only a mistake if what comes next hurts the FDP. It doesn't seem like there's an appetite for fresh elections so the FDP can make Merkels demise a precondition of returning to coalition talks.

Sounds like the Merkin caved to the Greens immigration demands. She just can’t say no to an open border. Tin ear...

Looks like the CDU/CSU minority government I long suspected it would be after all then.
Though FDP+AfD combined now constitute almost a third of the seats in the Bundestag to the right of the CDU, even more to the CDU's right if you add the CSU too
If he is stupid enough not to realise that the term "natural marriage" is an oxymoron, then it doesn't particularly surprise me that he is stupid enough to do what he did.
