Seeing only 42 today was a sign that summer is finally finishing. About six weeks back saw 53 on the car display, but it's a black car. It's between 40 and 50 during the day between May and September, with night lows as high as 38 and horribly humid - more than 3 mins outside during a summer's day and one needs a change of shirt. Dogs get walked at 5am and 9pm, followed by showers for both humans and pooches.

Hillary Clinton wouldn't like it here, except for the zero rate of income tax ;)

That is pretty much my memory in Oman years ago, but we didn't change shirts quite so often, or walk doggies. It was bleedin' hot though.

So no actual change over the intervening decades.

    @Felix
42 degrees in inland Iberian cities is normal? Bloody glad that the overseas branch of the Llama family went to Lisbon and not Madrid.

I know it was quite a number of years ago now, but I wonder how many people who mocked Bob Dole for falling over during the 1996 US presidential campaign are now defending Hillary Clinton for doing pretty much the same thing?

Golly, the things one forgets. Looking at the footage that was bad luck, he thought he was leaning on a balustrade which turned out not to be anchored to anything.

Unrelatedly, but on the subject of by elections, 8 Tory MPs died in office 1992-97, and only 4 from 1997 to date. Not sure what this tells us.

I do hope our resident Leavers aren't being triggered by Crimewatch tonight.

They are enjoying the Safe Space on PB, to keep themselves from triggering.
Pretty sure Leavers are not into either triggering or safe spaces.

Given that every single national and international scientific body in the world accepts the reality of AGW, the only way you can rationally deny it is by assuming some sort of huge scientific conspiracy.

No people dont need a conspiracy to go off like a herd in the wrong direction. Its happened enough times before in history

Look at how the experts were all wrong on Brexit and are now mea culpa-ing about a doom laden recession immediately following.

Its a theory, principally backed up by the so called science of computer modelling to forecast doom in future years - so far time has shown the models to be greatly exaggerated.

It has also been latched onto by the left, desperate to find a replacement philosophy justifying the overthrow of capitalism in favour of an authoritarian command economy after the fall of communism.

Only a bell end would expect an entire planet with all its variables to behave like a bell jar where one gas has its quantity increased and all other variables stay the same.
The fundamental theory of AGW isn't reliant on models at all. A basic theoretical framework and paleoclimatic evidence are all you need to make rough predictions. Hansen, for example, predicted back in 1982 that the Earth would warm by about half a degree by now, that the poles would bear the brunt of the warming and that the stratosphere would cool. He was pretty much spot on.

As a said, there is not a single national or international scientific organisation in the world that disputes AGW. It is simply the inevitable outcome of basic physics.

That there was a small majority and no pairing from 1992-7 ?

Labour lost 119 deposits in 1983 (when 12.5% was required) but interestingly Witney wasn't one of them. They polled 13.8%.

Definition. Trigger. A word used often by idiots on Tumblr to justify their bitchy attitudes, most of whom don't know what a real traumatic experience is.

    Yawn. Old news.

For years the BBC has believed that Eurosceptics are racists.
Why is this surprising when they display characteristics of being so.??
I mean they are as a de-minimus, xenophobic.. Add a touch of brown or black into the equation and they go ballistic.

But of course kippers are not racist, perish the thought.. and before you reply, go and chat to a few kippers who live in Essex or Kent..
  • I'm a little surprised by Dave's resignation, but on reflection it's entirely understandable. Dave will be all to aware that in the coming months the nation he presided over - a vibrant and liberal Britain with its prosperous, settled and confident role in the world - will be seen as the fading artefact of a golden age. As May toils with Brexit, Dave knows it would be almost cruel to have her diminished further by his shining presence, so he's ducked out and left her to it. What a gent!

Just try suggesting that maybe, just maybe, racism motivated some Leave voters and see how you get on.

Poor Hillary, it seems now they have to pretend she has pneumonia for a few days so they had to cancel her California visit after their announcement yesterday.
I've lost track, I thought she didn't do anything, now she's doing too much?
The conspiracy loons still can't decide if Obama is a Muslim or an extremist Christian, let them sort out conspiracy at a time.

I doubt very much it's all the SAME people, though by that interpretation, I dare say that some of the people who defended Dole in '96 are now mocking (or hysterically constructing wild conspiracy theories about) Clinton now.

When I was learning Arabic, we always had a laugh at the weather forecast for the Gulf. 44c and sunshine every day. I remember Hodeidah was 44-45c every day year round, with the humidity variously between 80 and 100%. Djibouti was hotter, often above 50c and humid as hell. The hottest was the Empty Quarter but that was bone dry. Sana'a was millionaire's weather: mid-30s during the day in summer, down to mid 20s at night; mid 20s in the day in winter down to 10s at night.

Have yet to make it to Oman. Been to all the Arab countries save Tunisia, Libya and Oman.

What would have happened to the Lib Dems last year if the deposit threshold had been 12.5%? As it was, it cost them 170 grand!

Are they rerunning the referendum trying to identify the guilty men and women? Should take a while.

And in that final sentence you reveal how little you really understand the whole debate.
