The ministers who authorised funds to Kids Company after reading the report about money being spent on PhDs and designer clothes ought to resign IMO.
Hancock and Letwin, it woud appear, Mr JS.
Then let us hope that they resign quickly before they waste even more of our money. They are both clearly incompetent and so there is no reason for Cameron to try and save them, though he probably will and thus damage himself and his government in the process.
I think the next leader will be Sajid Javed or Theresa May.
Nah, Mrs May is too old, too much of the last generation. That there will be lady in the final two is odds on, but who? Morris Dancer reckons Justine Greening, but I think she has become too housetrained by her civil servants at the DfID to be popular enough with MPs, let alone the party at large. Priti Patel is too hard.
My money is on Liz Truss, providing she doesn't make an ass of herself between now and the leadership election and does OK at DEFRA. She has those blue eyes and sardonic half-smile (just look at her picture on her web site) that will turn many middle aged conservative MPs weak at the knees and make them beg for the privilege of nominating her. She also has the steel that will enable her to appeal to the lady voters. Her back story ain't bad either - comprehensive educated, left wing parents, and 12 years doing real jobs in the private sector - shame about the PPE from Oxford, but she can't be perfect.
Liz Truss or Mr. Javid will be the next Conservative leader and probably Prime Minister. Faites vos jeux, mesdames et messieurs, faites vos jeux.
Yep - Truss is impressive. That Pork Markets video from a few Conferences ago is a shame, but if she can overcome it with an easy shrug and laugh it off she is truly the heir to Cameron.
Scottish Labour, quite rightly, deplore many aspects of the SNP’s record in government. Awkwardly, however, they don’t actually disagree with many of the SNP policies that have helped shape those outcomes
That, ladies and gentlemen, is why Scottish Labour are going to get slaughtered even more badly next year than they have been slaughtered thus far.
Well I will go in with low expectations then and hope to be surprised, the opening scene in Mexico City is meant to be be very good though so I will go for that if nothing else
Yup. There is a good argument to be made for leaving during the opening credits.
And the theme song is crap. I thought it was crap when I heard it a few weeks ago. Somebody said it's better when you see the titles behind it.
They were wrong...
Again, still better than Madonna's awful mix for Die Another Day, which was not only the worst Bond film I have seen but one of the worst films I have seen full stop. I managed to stay in the cinema for all of that film, so I will probably last through Spectre until the end
I think Madonna's Die Another Day theme tune stands up quite well - its very Madonna (glad she didn't try and do a torch song), but also has the orchestral side. Her cameo wasn't terrible either, but that could just be compared to the unmitigated shite that was the rest of the film.
The fact that Madonna's theme was the best thing about the film tells you how bad it was
Spectre is one of the worst Bond films ever made. It is quite stupefyingly mediocre.
It can't be worse than Die Another Day, Skyfall and Casino Royale were two of the best made in my view so a hard act to follow, if it is better than Quantum of Solace it will be OK
I think nothing can top Goldfinger as the best one, pretty much the early Connery and the early Moore ones were much better than the ones that followed, but yet again the 60's and 70's were much more imaginative and creative than today's period.
Diamonds are Forever is my personal favourite although Goldfinger is also up there but I would also have Skyfall and Casino Royale near the top
Dr No was a good low budget thriller, From Russia With Love was better (and the closest to the book), and was the first movie to have a pre-credits sequence, but with Goldfinger it all came together and was a worldwide sensation. The Aston Martin went on its own world tour. Plus Goldfinger has far and away the best theme song.
Goldfinger I agree has the best song, followed closely by Diamonds are Forever. Honourable mentions for Skyfall, The Spy who Loved Me, Goldeneye, From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service 'We have all the time in the world' and Live and Let Die and I also quite liked Duran Duran's 'A View to A Kill'
You didn't mention Nina and Frederick in OHMSS!!!!!
Just had to google them, they were a Danish and Dutch singing duo apparently though somehow I don't think there contribution to the film quite surpassed that of Louis Armstrong
The ministers who authorised funds to Kids Company after reading the report about money being spent on PhDs and designer clothes ought to resign IMO.
There are quite a few people who should be in deep deep doo doo over this.
Yep, particularly Camiila Batmanrobbing and Yentob. If anyone personifies the Metropolitan Elite that have no idea how sensible people view them, it is the supremely talentless Yentob.
IIRC TSE liked that one too, so we should all have known just how suspect his cinematic judgement is
I loved it, but haven't been interested enough to see Skyfall or Spectre (or Solace for that matter), as Casino Royale was only ok, so maybe my judgement is half ok?
I thought The Martian was the best film I've seen in years.
I can't take Daniel Craig as Bond seriously - lips are too pouty all the time. Where's George Lazenby when you need a good Bond

I would not be surprised if they survived. Hancock is a loyal party drone so will get an easy ride.
CNBC billed the debate as one that would focus on “the key issues that matter to all voters—job growth, taxes, technology, retirement and the health of our national economy.” That was not the case. Before the debate, the candidates were promised an opening question on economic or financial matters. That was not the case. Candidates were promised that speaking time would be carefully monitored to ensure fairness. That was not the case. Questions were inaccurate or downright offensive. The first question directed to one of our candidates asked if he was running a comic book version of a presidential campaign, hardly in the spirit of how the debate was billed.
While debates are meant to include tough questions and contrast candidates’ visions and policies for the future of America, CNBC’s moderators engaged in a series of “gotcha” questions, petty and mean-spirited in tone, and designed to embarrass our candidates. What took place Wednesday night was not an attempt to give the American people a greater understanding of our candidates’ policies and ideas.
CNBC is an obscure financial network with a daily viewership of about 200,000. Wednesday evening they had an audience of 15 million, (outdrawing a World Series game), and were exposed as incompetent and biased.

I think Rubio is stuck in the post debate polls because he has already got most of the support of Bush and Kasich (they are down to their core), there is not much room for him to grow, even if he has the largest slice of the establishment pie it's still a small pie.
The betting markets seem to be making the same mistake they did with Bush, they had Bush as the frontrunner although he was stuck way behind all the time.

15 million viewers is a hell of a lot of exposure for the GOP. They could livestream their own debate online if they wanted - cut out the lamestream meeja altogether - and only have, like 1/2 a million political obsessives tune in.

Yet he also spends £1,500 a month on taxis - all on BBC expenses of course, 'cos his £300k salary just doesn't manage to cover his travel back from a work dinner 5 nights a week...
I really won't be happy until he's in jail for the Kids Company fraud for which he was responsible, the latest revelations make it seem like some slush fund of never ending public money, being doled out with zero scrutiny whatsoever.
Channel 5 are showing a conspiracy theory documentary suggesting sirhan sirhan was hypnotised by the CIA.
Whilst I believe there was a conspiracy to kill JFK, I cannot see how his brother was killed by anyone other than sirhan sirhan.
Right. So 14 bullets can be fired by a gun which holds eight rounds, and a kill shot at point blank range, when everyone said Sirhan got no closer than 3 feet to RFK.

Shirley Bassey and Amy Winehouse had the same and best voice for a bond song, however only one lives.
Indeed, while Bassey's Bond themes are immortal it was a shame Winehouse never got the chance to do one
Hello rpjs Yes I believe you are broadly right. However the boat davits were sort of state of the art and in fact could have carried 2 (3?) lifeboats each, not just 1. However this took up a lot of deck space and in the end the space was used to provide some sort of snazzy walking promenade space.
IIRC, the assumption - not unreasonable for the time and route - was that there'd be other ships in the vicinity that could take the passengers. The lifeboats weren't so much to await rescue in as for transfer from one ship to another.
If so, that wouldn't have been much help had it sunk in fog, for example, which is entirely plausible (see the Empress of Ireland).
The Empress was horrific. She went down in just 14 minutes with scarcely a boat launched, and still holds the record for the most passengers lost on a liner in peacetime (more than Titanic).
Plunged into darkness after the 2am collision, basically only the crew could find their way out of the iron tomb...
Only four out of the 138 children on board survived.

Pong, you got that the wrong way around. The GOP provided the entertainment, not CNBC. CNBC's usual audience is a paltry 200k, not the 15m that the GOP brought to them.
Mmm, the ship sank on an even keel in nearly 3 hours and early lifeboats were indeed not filled to capacity. But no evacuation plan could have got round the fact that there were lifeboat places for c.50% of the ship's company. About 35% were saved and that was a tribute to the crew who were presented with this apalling situation and most of the passengers, who behaved very well. In all classes.
I thought there was a plan, albeit not a detailed, fully worked-out plan, with the expectation that the ship would remain afloat a lot longer than it did, giving enough time for other ships to come to its aid, with the lifeboats acting as ferries shuttling the passengers and crew to the rescuing ships. Andrews and the other designers never expected that such a long opening, across so many compartments, that the iceberg made, could happen.
If there really was another ship close by (the crew thought there was, and it was later identified as the SS Californian, whose master was blamed for not coming to the rescue that night) then possibly enough people could have been shuttled across for the lifeboat capacity not to have been a problem.
Didn't he disbelieve the distress call because the Titanic was known to be unsinkable?
Wireless was relatively new, and only a fraction of ships in 1912 even possessed what was still considered more of a toy for sending passengers' telegrams than a serious aid to navigation.
The Californian had a radio, but its sole operator had turned in 10 minutes before the collision. It simply never occurred to Captain Lord to rouse him in order to hail the mystery ship which, he had been informed, was firing rockets but refusing to answer repeated signals offered by Morse lamp.
In any case, the Titanic's calculated position was 13 miles out, and the Californian was stopped for the night.
Had Captain Lord roused the wireless man, discovered the facts, raised steam, figured out his mystery ship was in fact the Titanic, and safely negotiated the ice field, he could never have arrived in time to save anyone, before the Titanic sank.
But due to his slackness, he missed the opportunity to even try. And he never lived that down.
Most likely there was a third ship between Titanic and Californian, which each mistook for the other, and which quietly slipped away into safe anonymity...
Super-refraction was probably the cause of Californian's watch crew seeing Titanic's rockets and strange flickering lights many miles beyond normal visibility.
