'A lot of this seems to stem from Corbyn's yes, but no, but yes, oh let's talk about it.'

After Ed's five years of policy reviews,Corbyn winning on a very clear policy platform, every policy now has to be reviewed yet again.

Well Carmichael had a better chance of standing down and fighting a by election on the grounds that he may have misled some of his voters. Honourable and probably his best chance of being re-elected.

    JC's one better than Miliband.

Miliband merely had a blank piece of paper that he was going to fill up.

Whereas JC has psychic paper where you can read whatever you believe on it. Very useful.

The suckers know they just have to wait until the purges are complete. Corbyn/McDonnell/et al know the shadow cabinet and PLP are not with him. They have to get rid of them. They have not changed their minds, and as an opposition their 'U-Turn' means nothing when and if in power they do another U-Turn.

Interesting piece from Deb Mattinson - Labour's former pollster http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/sep/28/undecided-voters-jeremy-corbyn-labour-leader-focus-group
Here, the focus group mood changed, getting much trickier for Corbyn. Voters don’t know where he stands on immigration. They are also unsure where he stands on the economy and what little they have heard suggests his diagnosis of the problem may not precisely chime with their own. Some are unsettled by stories they’ve picked up about Corbyn’s past. Can it really be true that he supported the IRA?

Mrs C, the excellent first three Mass Effect games dealt with a comparable premise, whereby super-advanced machines wiped out civilisation in the galaxy every hundred thousand years or so.

I had to look that one up. It does sound similar. The nice thing about Benford's hero (Nigel Walmsley) is that he has a delightful way of winding up his employer (NASA) and getting away with it.

My reading list is pretty long, and I perhaps made the mistake of concurrently reading two books with a combined page count exceeding 3,500, so it'll be a while before I'm on anything else. (Words of Radiance and Three Kingdoms, for those interested).

I have similar issues. I just finished one series and now I am on book two of another. Nothing serious, just a bit of fun. Thank heavens for my Kindle App :)

Mrs C, I'm trying to avoid series (completed series, at least) and go for stand-alones, so I can read more without just going through a whole series at once.

Anyway, time to go do some exercise.

As far as I understand it, the lie in question was that he denied being the leaker. I may be wrong, but doesn't he still stand by the claim that at the time of the leak he thought the contents of the memo to be true?
He later accepted that the memo wan't accurate, and that he was the source of the leak.

The witch hunt surrounding this and the faux outrage from the SNP and travelling supporters has been quite an eye-opener.

I agree that he could stand down and seek re-election, but expect howls of outrage from SNP if he does. Perhaps he should if only to lay open the rotten core of our "government".

The horrifying book that caused a fair chunk of the populace to conflate putting one's penis in a pig's head with having oral sex with a porcine. Allow me to express my pity for the sexual partners of those people; they're clearly labouring under some severe misapprehensions :).

Admittedly the New Politics Version 1.0 (codename 'Clegg') wasn't a great success in the end, despite enthusiastic early reviews, but hope are high that Version 2.0 will sell well. The only slightly odd thing is that it's already thirty years out of date.

£93bn of corporate welfare? What nonsense | FT Data http://on.ft.com/1iEITB8
Labour should be wary of giving credence to a very suspect number. The £93bn figure now routinely used to evaluate the scale of “corporate welfare” in Britain is badly misleading. If the Labour Party is to re-establish its economic credibility, it needs to give the number a very wide berth.

So @acarmichaelmp complainants win first round victory on Representation of People's act case: now for further hearings 2/2

Is there an English translation of this?
There's evidence that Alastair Carmichael was a very naughty boy but we should have further hearings to find out, if he has been as naughty as his opponents say, we might have a by-election
He may feel it is in his best interest to resign no rather than face the humiliation of trying to defend his lying in court (on national television).
Well Carmichael had a better chance of standing down and fighting a by election on the grounds that he may have misled some of his voters. Honourable and probably his best chance of being re-elected.
LOL, honourable and Libdems are oxymorons.

Hyslop, TITP - ooh look a huge Carmichael.... !
So now we have SNP running the judges as well, they really are in charge
A fib regarding political spinning vs. mortgage fraud vs. misuse of public funds - which is the bigger crime ?
One is a proven liar as he admits himself , the rest is idle speculation at this point by people with axes to grind and not enough brains to do it.

Well the Lib Dems keep choosing the dishonourable route and wonder why the voters walk away.

In interviews, members of the shadow cabinet look as though they are featuring in hostage videos.

    Indeed it is. You.

The Parish Council has agreed to sponsor a comedy idiot - are you up for the challenge? Free ginger wig, and all the Tunnocks tea cakes you can eat.

He lied about two things which he now accepts were lies at the time.

That he had no knowledge of the memo before it was published.
That he was not involved in leaking the memo.

From the court's statement today and the requests they're making for further information, his only likely hope is that the court rules that the lies did not effect the return of a candidate or that they did not effect his personal character.

His majority is too small for the first one to have much chance. So basically he will be arguing that lying to win an election is not a reflection on his personal character. Perhaps there is some grounds there if he can establish that most people think "all politicians are liars" to start with?

Slightly different approach than that you took last night.

If this guy had been SNP normal service would have been resumed no doubt.
