“We will be standing a candidate in the real by-election, which will follow the standards investigation into Nigel Farage’s fishy finances.
We will not be standing a candidate in the fake by-election that Farage is causing to distract people from what is happening. We need to let that investigation run its course, and I think the reason why Nigel Farage has resigned is because he’s terrified that he’s going to be found to have done something wrong.
The best thing for him to have done would have been to call a press conference and explain what he did with the money, apologise if needs be, and that would have been the end of it. Instead, he has been running away from scrutiny. No one is bigger than parliament. We all have to register our interests.
We, the Conservative Party, are very focused on uniting the country around sensible policies. We’re going to focus on getting Britain working again and showing some common sense, not throwing random by-elections out because we’re having a hissy fit.”
BREAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKING NEWS....Count BinFace is standing.
The people has spoken.
Labour, Tories, Lib Dems and Greens: I demand you stand down in Clacton. I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house.
Nigel Farage says he wants The People versus the Establishment. So be it.
The other parties should not stand. A straight Binface v Farage is the way to go. Turn the 'people v establishment' framing right back on Mr £5m.
It would be hilarious, but outside of Speaker contests (and that intermittenly) have the big two ever not stood? No matter the circumstances it looks bad to not try.
David Davis vanity by-election. None of the major parties stood and ended up with 10-11 novelty candidates.
Was Davis not a Tory candidate? Wikipedia has him listed as one for that.

No, I think they have to stand. Go with good local candidates with clean skins.
Kemi and Ed say no. They'll stand only in a byelection triggered by a disgrace recall. Keir/Andy must surely follow suit. So, Nigel v Binners - and possibly the Yarmouth Far Right Massive.

Far Right Massive were first out the stalls to say not standing in this stunt.

Lowe was the first to say that they wouldn't stand in Farage's vanity election and would wait for the one after he's been found to have broken the rules.

That is surprising, i'd think they'd seize any opportunity to prove they exist outside Musk's fantasies.

Restore pulled out very early. Which leaves the Greens. They can't be so dim and vain as to put up a candidate... can they?

A clean bin is what's called for in the vanity election.
Wonder if he would even stand in the second one, if found guilty and the media scrutiny just won't go away
Could it really be Nigel vs Binface, with every non-Reform activist in Essex campaigning hard for Binface?

Sinn Fein refuse to play the game so when they resign it is taken as a request to be appointed to an office which results in them being stood down.
I would vote for him even if the main parties stood, because that's what this stupidity deserves.
