    Joani Reid suspended by Labour

She probably claims she never heard of Labour

That seems like another ludicrous over reaction by Starmer.

What has she been accused of other than being married to an alleged spy?
    More to the story, perhaps?

Just had a slightly discomfiting experience watching Greetings from Scotland on BBC Scotland about tourism up here. They were showing holiday footage from a Belgian family who visited in the 1970s. There unmistakably was my dad in his prime wearing highland dress, strolling down the Royal Mile between pubs no doubt, fag in hand. Not a strange experience for anyone with a mildly famous parent I suppose, but spooky for me to see a ghost of someone who died 28 years ago.

Well now you have to tell us the time he appears! (Assuming it's this?) https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000v0w2/greetings-from-scotland-series-1-episode-1

I bought some tungsten darts in the 70's which I used to win the 6th form darts championship. Does that make me a Chinese spy??

Or could I sell them to SKS to help the defensive war effort!
Are you married to a Labour MP? If not, you’re probably not a Chinese spy and can stop worrying.
How would you know. I mean, it's not the kind of thing I'd want my spouse to know.
How can you be married to a Labour MP without knowing it?
Would you tell someone you love you were a Labour MP and risk losing their respect forever?

nonsense. Labour politicians never stood up for anything save for themselves.
The only Labour leader who went to war was a lying duplicitous little shit.
Never trust Labour in any war situation. The PM is and has been shown to be weak weak weak.
    Attlee did all right.
Finished off the Japanese in months.
Took the Tory years with no victory.
Revisionist bullshit thinking. All the hard work was done. The Germans were defeated . The Japs were in full retreat. A couple of Nukes saw to the the end. Labour came to power but were thrown out and rightly so in 1951.
It was men like Iain MacLeod, Reginald Maudling and Rab Butler in the Conservative Research Department in the Attlee years who convinced the Party they shouldn't rip up the Beveridge reforms or reverse the nationalisation of the Bank of England, the railways and the coal and steel industries.

The Conservatives broke from the pre-war Chamberlin policies and embraced the post-war settlement simply offering to run it better and that's what happened after they won in October 1951.
Chamberlin had extending national insurance to health on his todo list. But for a small upset, the plan was to report and legislate on that in the early 1940s

JUST OUT: Trump’s strategy from Venezuela to Iran, a State Department official me and @VeraMBergen, can be called “Decapitate and Delegate.”

Trump’s approach reflects both his desire to avoid “forever wars” and nation building.

If DC’s anointed new leaders fall short for admin, Trump will just hit the reset button.

It’s “a new model: We’re going to give you a shot. You decide what you want to do,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham. “If they elect a new crowd that wants to kill Americans, we’ll kill them.”

"We’re going to give you a shot."

On domestic politics, Shabana Mahmood has just made one of the most tone deaf political errors I can recall since the poll tax

Offering £10,000 upto £40, 000 for asylum seekers to leave the country has gone down like a lead balloon

What an extraordinary gift to Farage

You have to question do they not use focus groups ?

Wow. The incentives here are just horrible. This is like saying come to the UK and you've won the lottery. If it ever got made law, it would explode irregular arrivals.

On the other hand though, at least she wore a stern coat. That'll show them.
That's surprisingly close to the going rate in a couple of places - it surprised me.

£10k is per person. £40k is cap per family.

Sweden are just under £30k. Denmark 30k per person. Both probably "up to".

Most are significantly lower, and to me it looks as if potentially it could be a draw in not a persuader to leave.

I'm not convinced about listening to reactions - given the titfer tatfer nature of current politics.

They have been scared off from some things by criticism before, and ended up feeding us milquetoast.

The Lord's work necessitates the final battle at Armageddon.

    Don't believe that isn't widespread?
    Don't be so naive.

Never mind the civilians all over the middle east.
Sadly true. The best hope is voter revolt in the US. However I don't think Trump even cares much about that. He's there, he's in, and he's going to keep abusing the power of the presidency to titillate and enrich himself. It won't stop until one way or another he's gone.

Ultimately, the problem is that the Supreme Court has become the third, and most powerful chamber of the legislature.

As I pointed out to my American relatives (liberals all) the problem with that is if the Court gets captured. That couldn't happen, they told me. The law is progressive,

To which I asked, who decides which way it is to progress?

The answer, it seems is that a large chunk of the American judicial system has been systematically captured. Trump delivered the judges for Roe vs Wade. And the Judges he delivered are delivering for him.

There is a twisted logic here, I suppose. The US military is the most awesome killing machine ever constructed. It's cost them about ten trillion dollars in todays money and it's many many times bigger and more powerful than is needed for boring old defence and deterrence. You just can't justify that level of spend unless you use it for something special, so why not for international extortion, terror and feeding the ego of the deranged narcissist you've elected as your president?
The US is going to drive so many countries into the arms of China. Donald Trump being re-elected is probably the best thing to happen to China for at least a hundred years. American hubris is at an all time high, and is causing them irreparable harm.
There is no evidence for that assertion.

What there is evidence of is that Iran's regime was not just utterly evil but closely aligned to Putin's Russia, supplying Russia with munitions that were killing Ukranians.

Attacking Iran does not just potentially liberate Iran and neutralise the biggest threat to the Middle East, it robs Putin of his closest ally and a key weapons factory.

    Win/win.

If you're maiming your own kids, you're doing it wrong.

That's what the Iranian regime did, slaughtering its own population.
    Yes. They did. Massive slaughter.

And so the answer is what?

Iran - no one can match us in our ability to kill innocent civilians.
Israel and the USA - Hold my beer...

They have banned its export fot dual use purposes.

Just as everyone is trying to surge arms production.

Jeez you’re right. I’d definitely want to hide being a labour MP from my other half

The concerning point for me is the undermining of church-state separation in the USA setting by doing the ritual in the Oval Office, the integration of the religion and the politics, the performative nature - and some of the stuff about the military.

BREAKING: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Hungary has taken seven Ukrainian citizens “hostage” in Budapest and demanded their immediate release.

The detained men are employees of the state-owned Oschadbank who were transporting cash between Austria and Ukraine in armored bank vehicles as part of routine operations between state banks.

Kyiv says it does NOT know why they were detained, what condition they are in, or whether they can contact anyone. Sybiha called Hungary’s actions “state terrorism and racketeering” and said Ukraine has sent a diplomatic note demanding their release and will ask the EU to assess the situation.

I've said it repeatedly but today is no different. The Iranians do not yet have effective central control over large parts of their military. They have a war commander but no command and they genuinely are finding it hard to know what is going on across the country.

Labour gain in Murton (Easington) from Reform,
First Lab gain since LE 2025

    Griffiths, Julie Ann (Lab) 1,004 - 50.6% (+17.6)
    Bell, Theo Samuel (Ref) 786 - 39.6% (-4.5)
Short, Isaac Thomas (Green) 95 - 4.8% (New)
    Luckhurst, Dorothy Ann (Con) 61 - 3.1% (-2.0)
    Thompson, Neil Peter (Lib) 38 - 1.9% (-2.3)

    No Ind (13.6%) as previously

Shows what you get when Labour are the obvious anti Reform vote.

Edit. Helps greatly when Reform are the incumbent Council not the insurgents.

So rather than deploy our own destroyers in advance of the start of military operations, we didn’t bother as the US had destroyers in the Med. So, it was hoped or expected that US destroyers would protect Cyprus while denying the US the use of UK bases?
