Trump announced that he was nominating Republican senator Markywayne Mullin to be the new homeland security secretary.
“A MAGA Warrior, and former undefeated professional MMA fighter, Markwayne truly gets along well with people, and knows the Wisdom and Courage required to Advance our America First Agenda,” the president said of the Oklahoma lawmaker.
The names of their operations, organisations and the CVs required “undefeated professional MMA fighter” along with Hesgeth’s risible utterances make me think that maybe, just maybe, everyone in the administration grew up watching Jean Claude Van Dam, Steven Segal and Chuck Norris films.
If I started a Yorkshire First Party, and changed my name to Shieldmaiden of Farndale Daffodils, will Trumps White House shower me with State Visits and Musk give me Billions in funding? 🤔
In the key specific issue significant majority support Starmer's defensive approach.
The other 2 questions unfairly represent he PM. The question needs to be too firm Trump, too soft with Trump and about right.
The question leads anyone thinking too soft or too hard to say badly.
Everything changes in a heart beat if a British Aircraft is taken down by an Iranian missile
Absolutely knock it off Big_G, a major conflict occurs and you're still always just childishly finding the angle ON STARMER.
You're being every bit as utterly graceless as Badenoch.
I imagine you are going to tell me it's just politics, like after Southport when your boys on here were retweeting the lies of real life fascists and you were just going "boys will be boys", like you were some fag wielding roughun in the town park watching admiringly as the grandkid's American Bully rips squirrels to pieces in front of everone as you observe "they are just having a bit of fun!"
I bet even MexicanPete can't parody your one-eyedness any more.
It may upset you, but Starmer is in a bind of his own making and if we lose an aircraft to an Iranian missile what would you do ?
There are lots of difficult questions but I am not going to be silenced by asking awkward questions
And this is not politics but a very serious war and your last paragraph is unworthy of you
Surely, the more you go all in on bombing missions as you and Kemi want, the more likely of losing our people?
At present the issue doesn't arise, but it will if we lose aircraft or troops or civilians
The world is heading into a terrible turmoil of conflict and strife, with the threat of literal armageddon looming ahead, and an air of the endtimes pervading every waking human moment. This is possibly the most perilous time for us, as a species, as a planet, since the dawn of life
On the other hand, I just made thirty grand selling an old flint, that I'd almost forgotten about, to some surprisingly eager Americans. So,. swings and roundabouts
Get it in gold so that at least you can admire the shininess in your final moments if the worst comes to the worst.
Yeah. I figure on spending it, not saving it: let's put it that way, in the context of "events"
One of the great joys of my job is the unexpected foreign sales. You don't have to do anything. They literally come out of anywhere, often for work you did years past (as in this case)
It's like you are sitting quietly in your flat, enjoying the mild spring air, and then someone randomly passes by and chucks a pillowcase full of cash through the open window
Sweet. Arguably better than a big win on the gee-gees because you *did* work for it - just not that hard, and ages ago

The sheer hypocricy of Right Wing Media labelling a proud Jew whose father escaped the Gas Chambers as anti semitic for standing up to the Zionist Barbarians in Tel Aviv and Washington is beyond parody.
Thank God for Miliband, Thornberry and others who stand up for their faith but stand up to the barbarian Zionists who tar and tarnish it.
Kemikazie and Farage and their bloodthirsty morons should take note and learn some history.
May Israel and all it's peace living majority be rid of these Fascists asap
nonsense. Labour politicians never stood up for anything save for themselves. The only Labour leader who went to war was a lying duplicitous little shit. Never trust Labour in any war situation. The PM is and has been shown to be weak weak weak.
The war needs to continue until the Iranian regime is utterly defeated imo.
I presume what you actually mean is you are a supporter of regime change in Iran which is fair enough.
The problem is you have to accept the consequences of that and be prepared for it - as we saw in Iraq, the immediate collapse of the Ba'athist tyranny did not bring peace and stability - it brought disorder and chaos into which other more radical and extreme elements which the Ba'athists were able to suppress, inflitrated and that led to even greater destabilisation, violence and death.
The reconstruction of Iranian infrastructure and governance damaged in the overthrow and the restoration of security for the ordinary Iranian people should be the priorities. We might celebrate the fall of the theocracy but none of us have ever lived or survived in an anarchic society with no work, no food, no money and no law and order. Any celebrations among the Iranian people may be short lived if that anarchy is left unchecked.
While that is a nice sentiment, the problem is that nearly no revolution/regime change doesn't break lots of stuff.
Which is why democracy is so valuable. We have most of the results of a violent revolution, every 5 years or so. Without X% of the population dying.
Even the relatively mild collapse of communism in Eastern Europe led to massive dislocations - the rise of the AfD comes from that. And Germany was perhaps the most peaceful change, plus many, many billions spent on smoothing it over.
All that behoves decision makers to think strategically, to consider the medium to long term consequences of their actions.
The fall of the Eastern Europe Communist states in 1989 may have been "hoped for" by Reagan and Thatcher and others before them but when it happened, the response of the West was dumb shock. Some may remember Thatcher and Mitterrand were opposed to German re-unification but were pushed aside by Bush and Kohl.
The events of 1989 resonate to this day in Ukraine and domestically via the expansion of both NATO and the EU and the impact all that has had on us economically, politically and culturally.
How much of that was foreseeable and predictable?
IF we were able to force the collapse of the theocracy, what follows? Simply walking away and letting the Iranians sort it out for themselves doesn't seem feasible or desirable. What kind of military and economic investment would we have to put in to rebuilding Iran? What about the impact of the fall of the theocracy on its neighbours in the region and what of the Iranians themselves, 90 million people and a median age of 32 - that's a lot of potential migrants to Europe and elsewhere.
The world is heading into a terrible turmoil of conflict and strife, with the threat of literal armageddon looming ahead, and an air of the endtimes pervading every waking human moment. This is possibly the most perilous time for us, as a species, as a planet, since the dawn of life

Literal armageddon hardly expresses it. It's loads worse than that. The weekend match between Persepolis and Tractor has been postponed. Interestingly, Ukraine's football has mostly just carried on regardless.
The war needs to continue until the Iranian regime is utterly defeated imo.
Barty Bobbins is that you?
I'll ask you what I have often asked Bart. How many innocent collateral casualties are acceptable?
Life is cheap for PB Tories.
Utterly ridiculous. Particularly as Trump swings from regime change to no regime change on a daily basis. Apparently he accidentally killed several of his preferred replacements.
If you were Neville Chamberlain how many collateral casualties would have been acceptable for you in WWII?
Collateral casualties die in all wars.
That's nonsense. Have I ever suggested capitulation is the answer. 80,000 dead including women and children in Gaza and you are asking for an encore in Tehran.
Kill the bad guys by all means but try and avoid the girls schools.
You object to them fighting, so yes that is suggesting that capitulation in the answer.
There is no third way, its either fight or capitulate.
I agree in trying to avoid the girls schools. I think Israel does, I think they try hard to avoid collateral damage, though its tough when fighting terrorists that will use schools as human shields.

STATEMENT:
This week has been the worst of my life. The shock of recent days has been difficult for me and my family.
I want to reiterate something very important: I am not under investigation by the police and no accusations have been against me. I have done nothing wrong. I love my country. To serve the people of East Kilbride and Strathaven as their MP and the Labour Party has been - and continues to be - the privilege of my life.
I understand that speculation and gossip is fevered at a time like this. I do not want the circumstances that I and my family find ourselves in to be a distraction for this government, of which I am proud and in whom I believe. I also do not want my children - who have nothing to answer for and who deserve privacy and compassion - to find themselves subject to intrusion.
Following discussions with the Chief Whip, I am voluntarily suspending myself from the whip and will not sit as a Labour MP until internal investigations are concluded. I will welcome and cooperate with any questions and worries the party may have.
I, and my team, will continue to serve my constituents in the normal way as their Member of Parliament.

Pumi robbed again!
And the winner is.....the Corgi!! Runner-up, the Sheltie, third the Old English, fourth place to the Polish lowland.
Quite brave of the US Deptartment of the Interior posting today to celebrate the uprising of Americans against a tyrant who had spent loads of money on foreign wars.

That seems like another ludicrous over reaction by Starmer.
What has she been accused of other than being married to an alleged spy?
There is no other option for him - imagine he didn’t and he would be attacked left right and centre for being weak on British defence (can you imagine if that happened?). If her husband is innocent then Starmer has done the right thing and she will be welcomed back but if guilty and he didn’t suspend can you imagine the shitshow?
The more interesting question would be whether he would suspend her if they had a wafer thin majority.
One of the other guys arrested, Aplin, was a Reform party member - confirmed by the Welsh Reform leader. There is some suggestion he was being considered as a list candidate but Reform deny this

On Topic: I think refusing to side with Trump over Iran, could give a polling boost to Labour and the PM... If they were competent enough to play it the right way.
Unfortunately Starmer is not!
What could be seen a strong PM standing up to a bullying, domineering President will actually be viewed as a weak, cowardly and dithering PM doing what he always does... consulting his lawyers before being able to make any decision.
No. There’s no way out for either Starmer or Kemi now. These sort of things, the seriousness of it, so much credibility at stake, it doesn’t allow for u-turns, you get locked into it early on with what you have already said, like Labour did over Salisbury.
Starmer is locked in to the stay out decision, now long since made and often explained. Kemi locked into the “in, and right at the front in” she’s so clearly expressed right from the off, and known for {even Farage has sounded a bit more cautious and sceptical on this one than Tory front bench}.
Not even Trump the master of hourly flip flop can u-turn now - the world is expecting regime change - belief in him drops like a stone if they don’t push for regime change and take an early off ramp.
My "for you" is suddenly full of blue tick accounts with Union Flags claiming the attack on Cyprus was an Israeli false flag. Curious as to what the motivation is - Iranian bot farms up again?
Are these numbers that bad for SKS? 32% saying Starmer is handling his relationship with Trump and 34% saying he is handling the UK response to the US and Iran conflict well is significantly better than his 18% favourable rating as PM with Yougov and a majority of 2024 Labour voters and a plurality of 2024 LD voters say he is handling Trump well and a majority of Labour and LD 2024 voters say he is handling the UK response to the Iran conflict well.
On Topic: I think refusing to side with Trump over Iran, could give a polling boost to Labour and the PM... If they were competent enough to play it the right way.

We met playing tennis in our Edinburgh inter office doubles and she was a very good player
We got engaged in Princess Street Gardens below the Scott's Monument and married in Lossiemouth Parish Kirk
In ten days we are having a 2 day rail trip to Edinburgh, staying overnight in Princess Street Premier, before returning next day by LNER to Kings Cross and Avanti back to Colwyn Bay
We will seek out the bench we got engaged on before returning home

Is mass murder andvbarbarism whoever does it.
Your defence of American and Israeli aggression is hypocritical if you don't accept it's no different to Iran or Russia.
Don't try and plead it's defensive?
Give that bastard Netanyahu an inch and hell take a thousand miles.
He is the most dangerous man on the planet bar none.
It is defensive.
Hamas triggered the war in Gaza. Its their fault people died in the crossfire. Iran funded Hamas. All the deaths in Gaza are ultimately Iran's responsibility.
Iran meanwhile slaughters unarmed innocents in cold blood without provocation.
If you can't discern the difference, it is because your moral compass is broken.
You're going to absolute shit yourself when you find out who else funded Hamas.
Kemi may have some problems though, only 8% of UK voters back and 15% of 2024 Tory voters support her demand the UK should send RAF jets to actively bomb Iran. Ironically her position is more favoured by Reform voters, 24% of whom back it, than voters of her own party.
Whereas Starmer's position that any active UK support for action against Iran should be purely defensive or retaliatory is the overwhelming position of both UK voters and voters of his Labour party
Ah, that explains the many messages containing "Jeremy Hunt".
Aka a Newsnight Jeremy.
I heard it on the Today programme voiced by Naughty James
Ditto. Heard it live on R4 Today. It woke me up. Some years ago now.
Maybe it can replace the old definition of a gentleman “someone who never offends someone by accident” and instead “someone who never says çűnł by accident”.

What makes you say that? Many here kept saying there could be a death toll in the millions or many hundreds of thousands, as well as claims of "indiscriminate bombing" which would have made it be that high.
In the end the death toll was only in the tens of thousands. For comparison Iraq which we invaded saw a death toll well over a quarter of a million.
To destroy a vicious enemy like Hamas while keeping the death toll down in the tens of thousands is pretty impressive.

The residents of East kilbride and Strathaven will be struggling to keep up with all these changes. In the past 2 and a half years they've been represented by SNP, Tory, Lab and now an independent MP.
In the midst of this, Labour are probably breathing a small sigh of relief that there have been no further developments announced in the other case involving a Scottish politician, Colin Smyth, former Lab MSP now sitting as an independent. Smyth has been accused of possessing indecent images and voyeurism.
I use the word 'sitting' as a figure of speech, as he hasn't attended parliament in over 6 months. He has however, been able to lift £37.5k in salary, courtesy of taxpayers. Echoes of the Derek Mackay case around about the start of covid time.
Of course MSPs in their wisdom decided not to back a proposed bill going through Holyrood which would have allowed voters to remove them from Parliament.
So the public basically agrees with what the government is doing, while also thinking they're doing it badly. They can't win. Incidentally I think the way the official opposition is behaving during this national crisis is nothing short of scandalous.
That's because he can't give a straight message. Most people don't know what Starmers position is. I certainly don't. All we know is that he's not as far up Trumps backside as he usually is
Anyway not important. The Greens have caqptured the ground most of the public support. Don't touch Trump's adventurism with a bargepole. No ifs no buts. Nuance is not what people want. Do you want to slaughter people for Trump and Netanyahu. Yes or No.?
Explain how the slaughter of 40,000 of it's own people by the Iranian regime are any better
It's not, but nobody's suggesting we support Iranian regime in its slaughter.
Everyone opposing deposing the Iranian regime is supporting leaving them in place to continue their slaughter.
You can't just wash your hands of the evil.
As John Stuart Mill said - Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.
The quickest way to peace in the Middle East is regime change in Israel.
The quickest way to peace in the World is a missile attack on the US Republican Convention
Sadly innocents would die, but a lot lot less than if these morons continue their bloodlust
In the view of Yair Lipid, the opposition leader, tonight he is fully behind Netanyahu and Israel as a country is united in this fight
Also report from Tel Aviv everyone is on the same page against Iran
In fact name anyone who supports Iran other than Russia
So what
Barbarism Mass Murder
Attlee did all right. Finished off the Japanese in months. Took the Tory years with no victory.
Revisionist bullshit thinking. All the hard work was done. The Germans were defeated . The Japs were in full retreat. A couple of Nukes saw to the the end. Labour came to power but were thrown out and rightly so in 1951.
Was that not a joke by DixieDean?
Sorry a bit stressed due to personal circumstances. Never be an executor ... ever....

She probably claims she never heard of Labour
Do it.

There is no third way, its either fight or capitulate.
I agree in trying to avoid the girls schools. I think Israel does, I think they try hard to avoid collateral damage, though its tough when fighting terrorists that will use schools as human shields.
Which was close, but no C1GAR

- the ever-popular Border Collie, the Briard from Wales, the Puli from the US, the too-fluffy Old English Sheepdog following in the pawprints of his father and grandfather - previous winners, the Lancashire Heeler, the Polish lowland sheepdog, the Shetland sheepdog from Stockport, and the Pembroke Corgi from the US.
Pumi robbed again!
And the winner is.....the Corgi!! Runner-up, the Sheltie, third the Old English, fourth place to the Polish lowland.
On one hand they seem to be chasing Reform voters and then come out with the policy which is a huge own goal .
'aint gonna work...

There is zero chance Mojtaba Khamenei would be a progressive leader in Iran. The younger generation of ayatollahs in Iran is even more radical than their elders. The regime will not moderate.

The more interesting question would be whether he would suspend her if they had a wafer thin majority.
Rhyming slang can also be helpful.
Finished off the Japanese in months.
Took the Tory years with no victory.

An essential material for, amongst other things, and awfully large proportion of arms production.
They have banned its export fot dual use purposes.
Just as everyone is trying to surge arms production.

Unfortunately Starmer is not!
What could be seen a strong PM standing up to a bullying, domineering President will actually be viewed as a weak, cowardly and dithering PM doing what he always does... consulting his lawyers before being able to make any decision.
Shame,
Starmer is locked in to the stay out decision, now long since made and often explained.
(also lots of left-wing looking accounts - something definitely going on.)
It is 2024 Tory and Reform voters where a clear majority disapprove of his handling of Trump and the Iran conflict but they will never vote for him anyway

Whereas Starmer's position that any active UK support for action against Iran should be purely defensive or retaliatory is the overwhelming position of both UK voters and voters of his Labour party

In the end the death toll was only in the tens of thousands. For comparison Iraq which we invaded saw a death toll well over a quarter of a million.
To destroy a vicious enemy like Hamas while keeping the death toll down in the tens of thousands is pretty impressive.

I have never been a fan of Netanyahu. I am a supporter of Israel defending herself.
Thankfully the opposition is just as forthright, so oust Netanyahu and defeat the Mullahs and terrorists. Win/win.
The report of my death was an exaggeration.
Starmer pulled it as he didn't want it going through on that basis, IIRC.
