Joe Biden's "don't jump" joke is getting a bit tired. I've heard it several times.
I think politicians need to be forgiven for having a limited series of jokes and anecdotes. Each time they tell it for someone it is the first time they've heard it.
I'm off to Bedistan to ride the Camel of Xanax, but this is actually a rather clever visualisation of how China has overtaken world trade from the USA. And in the end (AI possibly excepted) it is trade that brings power
"Who dominates global trade? It is well recognised that China has become the world’s largest trading nation. Less appreciated is the effect this has had in displacing the United States from its traditional dominance as a trading partner for other countries around the world."
At least Seattle got a decent name - Orcas. Other US team names are crap.
For what it's worth, there's been a cricket pitch at county park south of Seattle for about a decade or so, patronized by South Asians, West Indians and the odd (in more ways than one?) Brit.
Same as fan base for the Seattle Orcas. At least potentially.

I knew there was hope for the USA, I just didn't have the proof until now.
errm a 21 year old is arrested for leaking very sensitive documents about a live war- Does the US really allow 21 year olds access to stuff they dont want the russians to know ?
During the Second World War we allowed teenagers at Bletchley Park to handle sensitive documents.
What I guess is interesting/disturbing with this is the death of true patriotism in the US. This guy’s loyalty is to a brand of conservatism. He is not interested in the idea of a USA as the home of multiple ideologies and viewpoints to which all can be loyal and of which all can hope to be proud. In fact, he’ll happily sell that out in service of his qAnon derived worldview.
Fact is, a lot of this has been stoked by Trump’s absolutism, supplemented by the atomisation of media, creating an ideological norm of (basically) fascism which a huge minority Americans will brook no deviation from.
I kind of hope we’re in a better place than that as a country.
he'll be pardoned by whoever is the next republican president

I see that Anas Sarwar spent the last fews days in the Western Isles with the Scottish Labour candidate Torquil Crichton, I think that Labour will gain this seat from the SNP at the next GE.
It's one of the most socially conservative seats in the UK, so you'd think the SNP's current policies wouldn't go down particularly well there.
Not just that, but the CalMac ferry crisis just keeps getting worse and worse, I don't even want to think about the impact on the local Island communities and their economy due to the current fleet breakdowns over Easter. And now we have the SNP/SGreen Gov plans to create highly protected marine areas, no wonder Kate Forbes as a rural Highland MSP wanted these plans ditched as she realises just how unpopular this is going to be across the Highlands and Islands.
Add in the delays with dualling the A9/A96 and the impact of the deposit return scheme on the whisky, gin and craft beer industry up there. And unbelievable, the Scottish Government were planning to ban alcohol advertising at a time when many in that Industry have invested heavily in visitors centres and you are left asking does the SNP want to lose these seats or do they arrogantly think they are untouchable regardless? Only a decade ago the Labour party thought that in the central belt and look at how that worked out for them?
We were up in Skye back in the Autumn, the state of the roads was just appalling when you consider the volume of visitors, it cost us a tyre on the road home. But we finally got the chance to visit Raasay which I have always wanted to do but never had time on previous visits.

Why can't alternative ferries be leased temporarily? I know there must be complex requirements in the scottish isles, but I thought that there was a thriving international market in the leasing of all sorts of vessels...

Why? It's the most boring "sport" in the world!
Cricket is boring in the same way that chess is boring.

"The SNP has given CalMac £9 million in cash to rent the MV Alfred ship from Pentland Ferries for nine months to operate on the West Coast but it's been hounded as a "very expensive sticking plaster to cover up the SNP's failings on ferries.""
And of course the two ferries languishing at Ferguson Marine shipyard have been delayed again, at this rate I am beginning to think that it might take longer to build those two ferries than it did to build one Royal Navy aircraft carrier. Just compare and contrast the SNP Governments record when it comes to orders/ship building with the MOD's record with their new fleet of ships being built in Scotland.
More Clarence Thomas revelations: it appears that he sold properties to his billionaire donor friend at above market rates, and then failed to disclose it.
Of course, this won't result in his departure from the Supreme Court, but the pressure is surely embarrassing for him.

China’s share will decline though, as its population falls, and its growth rate falls.

Surprised the dude didn't just had himself in.
A breakthrough in our investigation came when the team identified a Steam profile in Airman Teixeira's name that led to an Instagram profile with photos of the exact location where leaked docs were photographed — a kitchen countertop in his childhood home. https://nytimes.com/live/2023/04/1

(Although as it's been rebranded by Trump as the USMCA, this would be a change back.)
