Apparently a federal court will let them go bankrupt - just gets moved up. Then the Auto workers union will take them to the supreme court even when the cheques stop coming.

Right, and dumb as this stuff is none of it remotely compares to the evil of things like the key disclosure provisions in RIPA (2000).

BTW, people who have been demanding that Labour produce some policies, can you see the problem now? They won't announce policies unless they sound good to the media, and policies that sound good to the media are very likely to be bad in practice, or they'd already have been done. So if you want Labour to announce policies you're asking them to announce things that sound good but work badly, and to make matters worse since they're popular the current government will nick them, so you end up enacting the worst policies that Labour can dream up, immediately, and there's nothing the voters can do about it.

The only way is to find someway, anyway of bringing investment into the town. Which is why its so important to any town, or country to listen to those mobile, able workers and firms.

We're in global competition. Detroit couldn't even cope on a national level.

Matt Yglesias's solution is to let in immigrants who wouldn't otherwise be allowed to work in the US, on the condition that they live in Detroit for a few years.

Yeah but to do what... it's not as if labour is detroits problem is it? Its got too much labour and not enough work...so lets bring in more labour??

And? How is bringing non-taxing people from third world countries into Detroit going to create jobs, or pay taxes when you don't have a functioning economy.

In a functioning economy where you have the ability for increased investment, then maybe this might work...but you already have huge levels of unemployment.. so clearly there is no demand for labour there already.

Just because there's a economy theory of it, doesn't mean it is right in all areas and all places.

Disagree, put four ambitious, self-starting people together somewhere with property rights and rudimentary rule of law and they'll create an economy.
