It's an interesting interesting question as to.how far her invisibility at the Ministry of Fun is sulking at not having a bigger job, and how much it's that it's the level she is capable of operating at. But I'm suspicious that the balance of "best people Labour has" to "Andy's allies" isn't quite right here.

As I was briefly passing the newspaper stand at lunchtime I spotted one saying something about Burnham not going to be popular in the South.
I'm sure that will devastate him, but as a resident of the South West we don't generally think Labour are that enamoured of us in the first place - but that said even though it was a Labour landslide in 2024 I was amazed that they took the largest number of seats.

Nandy has been Culture Secretary for two years and as far as I know hasn't done a single thing while there. She is supposedly in charge of new BBC funding arrangement and has pronounced some vague and extremely half baked suggestions but that's it I think. Contrast say with Miliband who is on top of his brief, knows what he wants, and is effective in getting stuff done.

Streeting moves from one massive bureaucracy to another. How will be do? His NHS experience is mixed. On the one hand he's overseen a modest but measurable improvement in the service. The NHS in England is going in the right direction albeit slowly. On the other hand he's made a lot of mistakes and those mistakes are costly, not just in money terms.

I guess he could just decide to have a smaller Cabinet. Pitt the Younger only had 11 members of his Cabinet, besides himself, in his first Ministry, and 12 in his second.

Burnham's cabinet so far is incredibly northern in terms of seats. Mahmood seems to be the most southern - she's a Birmingham MP - and nobody from London, or indeed south of Birmingham so far. But several southern MPs now waiting inside No 10.
1) snaffled £400k of taxpayers' money for his company by lying about what it did
2) was forced to resign as Burnham's advisor when @ManchesterMill exposed it
3) hasn't repaid the money because the company somehow went bust

I'm sure that will devastate him, but as a resident of the South West we don't generally think Labour are that enamoured of us in the first place - but that said even though it was a Labour landslide in 2024 I was amazed that they took the largest number of seats.
