Final nail in the coffin of aspiration. The games gone....
Strangely, I aspire to be paid enough to have to pay 50% on some of it.
You can pay 50% already old chum….voluntary payments are accepted by HMRC
Er no...
If you consistently overpay your taxes year after year, HMRC will treat it as an ongoing mistake that needs correcting, rather than accepting it as extra revenue.

One tax policy SuperAndy could consider is open tax books as in several nordic countries. The rich compete to pay most taxes. It's a macho thing (for both sexes)

Broadest shoulders, apparently !
Who then say, fuck this, throw off the payload and either give up or go to Dubai.

I quit for the public sector 3 months ago mate, and am now deducting my 12.5% pension contributions from my salary so I fall beneath the £125k threshold. You are paying me under this government to be a wealth taker and not a wealth maker, and funding my future final salary pension. Next, I will take my kids out of private school so you can pay for them too.
I hate to say it but there is some money for Miliband as Chancellor.
Gilt markets would go bonkers....
We can't have gilt markets dictating who can or cannot be CoE. .
We can’t have the government ignoring reality. Especially when we are short of money and gilt prices are at highs.
Yes, I agree with that (see Truss).
But the markets will ultimately react to what the chancellor does, not who they are. Funded policies -> ok; unfunded policies -> not ok (as Truss found out).
I thought Burnham would be more conciliatory towards Starmer loyalists but he's obviously decided he can afford to stick two fingers up at them.
You know who else did that?
Liz.....
Andy Burnham is Labour Truss.
Discuss.
Dream on - only the Tories could create a crisis like Truss.
He's sacking all the Starmer loyalists, like she did. Maybe next he'll just appoint all his loyal mates, like she did. We know he's playing all of Labour's greatest hits from a misreading of the 70s and 80s, like she did.
I hate to say it but there is some money for Miliband as Chancellor.

They'll also react to what they think the chancellor will do.

Weren't you always deducting your pension contributions from your salary?

We absolutely can and must do. But that doesn’t rule out 50% - if it’s used to cut the deficit then the gilt markets won’t mind at all. Of all taxes to raise, income tax is amongst the best one.

They now take me beneath the 45p threshold and restore some of my personal allowance.
This was a factor in me taking my new job. Due to lazy, resentful and bitter people who don't work and try and destroy those of us who do.

Ben doesn't give a fuck because he's actually quite well off and has a nice house, and doesn't have to work.
The only thing he cares about is a wealth tax coming for his property.
It'd be hard not to laugh if it does.
I'd be laughing with you. I have consistently pushed for a wealth tax in my posts on here. Yes it would adversely affect me but I would like to see a fairer society, better public services and reduced borrowing.
I have also pushed for taxing income fairly so that unearned and pension income is taxed at the same rates as earned income - that would also adversely affect me.
Yes I am relatively well off - entirely through my own efforts (nowhere your income though) - and could afford a bit more tax which I think is the only way to reduce borrowing and pay for better services.
Finally, anyone who loves their money more than their country is no patriot and should be told to piss off and be stripped of their British citizenship*

I'm assuming that we are paying you to do what you used to do - at a cost that is less than it would have cost the public sector to hire you through the consultancy you used to work for....
As such everyone apart from your previous employers is better off..
Really surprised how much of the cabinet is being replaced. A lot more resignations/sackings than I expected. Thought he might be going for more continuity but clearly not. It also reminds us how many no marks and no bodies surrounded Keir Starmer. It really was the worst cabinet of my life time by a significant margin. Things can only get better.
Did anyone notice Burnham say he'll set out his "new" ten year plan for the country, later in the year.
Think that's a pretty big hint we'll get an early election, maybe in the autumn, but certainly by next spring as the emphasis on the word "new" kind of implies a fresh mandate will be needed...

The patterns are ominous.
As I told the Labour canvasser at the weekend. It really doesn’t pay to work in this country. You get punished.
Why work if you don’t need to ?
I had plenty more to do and offer as well.
It simply wasn't worth it anymore.
That's the effect this administration's policies have had on me.

Get ‘er in there as Darren Jones upgrade please Andy. 🤣

On a day like this it’s easy to imagine Labour out of power for 18 years again. They’ve lost the plot.
He worked in the Treasury before but in a fairly junior role. Gobsmacked.
Yes, if it’s a Labour PM I replied.
Healey is a hopeless out of touch politician with zero communication skills.
What Labour is doing to itself today is delicious.
We really are going back to the 1970s.

Makes sense
(I am good at this prediction game.)
I very much doubt I'll like all his policies, but he's certainly worthy of respect.
So no change?
