    I’ve just finished a long meeting so only caught the end of the comment but I think that’s what Starmer said the SNP are going for a headline.

    I like him, but he made a serious mistake when describer channel crossers as "mostly women and children". So obviously and provably untrue and pointless to say.

    I would also suggest the FO records management and information compliance training needs improving, as does clearly training for Cabinet Ministers if even an intelligent man like Lord Mandelson sent confidential records to the likes of Epstein

    It's the wrong approach from the government to try to use this to smuggle through a power grab versus the House of Lords. It's not complex to pass legislation to remove his peerage.

    I doubt it will honestly make any difference. As I explained the other day, Scottish Whiskey in China is £50-60 a bottle for run of the mill stuff, the equivalent of about £250 in our equivalent buying power. If you just want to drink alcohol its dirt cheap, a beer is $1 in a big city i.e. nobody in China is buying Scot Whiskey on price, they are totally elastic to price, £3-4 off for the sort of people in China who have the equivalent of £250 to spend on a bottle of booze, they ain't asking price.

    I went to a supermarket that stocked Scot Whiskey in Schenzhen, it made Waitrose look like Asda both appearance and price.

    Not all Labour leaders were keen. Mandy was prominent during the Kinnock years, but dropped by John Smith. Then bounced back with Blair, fell out with Brown, but brought back by him later when he became PM. Corbyn not a fan, of course.

    Yep. Starmer has no Epstein links and no responsibility for what Mandelson was doing back in Blair/Brown times. What Starmer did was appoint him UK ambassador to Washington. The rationale/process around that (bad) call is where his vulnerability lies.
    Notable, as someone pointed out on the previous thread that Ed Miliband was, shall we say, unenthusiastic about having Mandelson in the Labour Shadow Cabinet.
    Not all Labour leaders were keen. Mandy was prominent during the Kinnock years, but dropped by John Smith. Then bounced back with Blair, fell out with Brown, but brought back by him later when he became PM. Corbyn not a fan, of course.

    In fact I would say that Starmer has the duty to report Mandelson to the police if there is evidence a crime has been committed. Although I believe that some other people may have already done so.

    Although I am uncomfortable with the idea that the government should be able to remove someone from the legislature, which some people seem to be demanding

    I thought he may survive both Gorton and Denton as well as May and put him down on the quiz as PM at end of year

    There is an Opposition Day Debate on Wednesday. Whoever is leading the debate should make it the “Lord Mandelson (Removal of Title)” debate and put the government on the spot.
